In 1969, Leonard Kleinrock , one of the chief scientists of the original Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) which seeded the Internet, said: “As of now, computer networks are still in their infancy, but as they grow up and become sophisticated, we will probably see the spread of „computer utilities‟ which, like present electric and telephone utilities, will service individual homes and offices across the country.” This vision of computing utilities based on a service provisioning model anticipated the massive transformation of the entire computing industry in the 21st century whereby computing services will be readily available on demand, like other utility services available in today’s society.
Similarly, users (consumers) need to pay providers only when they access the computing services. In addition, consumers no longer need to invest heavily or encounter difficulties in building and maintaining complex IT infrastructure.
In such a model, users access services based on their requirements without regard to where the services are hosted. This model has been referred to as utility computing, or recently as Cloud computing . The latter term denotes the infrastructure as a “Cloud” from which businesses and users can access applications as services from anywhere in the world on demand. Hence, Cloud computing can be classified as a new paradigm for the dynamic provisioning of computing services supported by state-of-the-art data centers that usually employ Virtual Machine (VM) technologies for consolidation and environment isolation purposes . Many computing service providers including Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and IBM are rapidly deploying data centers in various locations around the world to deliver Cloud computing services. Cloud computing delivers infrastructure, platform, and software (applications) as services, which are made available to

Green Cloud Computing

...GREEN CLOUD COMPUTING ABSTRACT: Cloud computing is a highly scalable and cost-effective infrastructure for running HPC, enterprise and Web applications. However, the growing demand of Cloud infrastructure has drastically increased the energy consumption of data centers, which has become a critical issue. High energy consumption not only translates to high operational cost, which reduces the profit margin of Cloud providers, but also leads to high carbon emissions which is not environmentally friendly. Hence, energy-efficient solutions are required to minimize the impact of Cloud computing on the environment. In order to design such solutions, deep analysis of Cloud is required with respect to their power efficiency. Thus, in this chapter, I discuss various elements of Clouds which contribute to the total energy consumption and how it is addressed in the literature. I also discuss the implication of these solutions for future research directions to enable green Cloud computing. The paper also explains the role of Cloud users in achieving this goal. Techniques of Load Balancing in Green Clouds

...Balancing in Green Clouds Gaganjot Kaur* *M.Tech,IITT College of Engineering & Technology, Pojewal, Punjab Abstract — Cloud Computing can be defined as dynamically scalable shared resources that are completely accessed over a network and the users have to only pay for what they use and can share internally or with other customers as well. The majority of cloud computing infrastructure currently consists of reliable services delivered through data centers that are built on computer and storage virtualization technologies. The goal of a cloud-based architecture is to provide some form of elasticity, the ability to expand and contract capacity on-demand. The implication is that at some point additional instances of an application will be needed in order for the architecture to scale and meet demand. That means there needs to be some mechanism in place to balance requests between two or more instances of that application. The mechanism most likely to be successful in performing such a task is a load balancer. The aim of this paper is to discuss the existing techniques of load balancing and elaborate the main points of the techniques that are helpful in reduction of power consumption leading a step towards green clouds. Green Cloud is an Internet Data Center architecture which aims to reduce data center power consumption, and at the same time guarantee the performance from users’ perspective, leveraging live virtual machine migration technology. Cloud computing comes with the great advantage of providing higher energy savings, a fact which translates into being environmentally friendly. In the last few years, technology has improved immensely, taking the environment into account and providing a solution for those worrying about carbon footprints and the impact of technology into the environment. In the last couple of decades, HR has re-invented itself from the mundane activities like Industrial Relations, labour etc. to the front of a Company’s Business radar on par with Marketing, Finance, Administration and other departments. HR managers today use hundreds of strategic and collaborative technology tools to keep up the HR function fast moving. But lot of these technology tools is not implemented in a large number of Small & Medium Enterprises (SME) who forms 75% of our country’s market. Why? Because many of the SME’s are of...

It is a framework for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of computing resources. Load balancing is one of the main challenges in cloud computing which is required to distribute the dynamic workload across multiple nodes to ensure that no single node is overwhelmed. It helps in optimal utilization of resources and hence in enhancing the performance of the system. The goal of load balancing is to minimize the resource consumption which will further reduce energy consumption and carbon emission rate that is the dire need of cloud computing. This determines the need of new metrics, energy consumption and carbon emission for energy-efficient load balancing in cloud computing. This paper discusses the existing load balancing techniques in cloud computing and further compares them based on various parameters like performance, scalability, associated overhead etc. that are considered in different techniques. It further discusses these techniques from energy consumption and carbon emission perspective. Keywords: Cloud computing, Load balancing...

The Pink Cloud

...Paul Signac’s Antibes, the Pink Cloud was created in 1916. The medium that the Parisian used was oil paint on a canvas. It was created in Antibes, France but is now on display in Gallery 225 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in the Isabelle and Scott Black Collection (MFA information plaque). The painting depicts a small purple sailboat with a green and red sail in the sea underneath an enormous, majorly, pink cloud in the light blue sky with two other red sailboats and purple steam boats. The enormous pink cloud and the light blue sky is reflected into the sea and the purple sailboat has a dark reflection in the sea as well. The sailboat is in the center of the painting while the cloud is above and behind the sailboat. The other sailboats are to the right and behind the main sailboat and the steam boats are all the way to the right in the far distance. The time of day in the work, which can be determined from the color of the cloud and sky, appears to be sunset and the sun is off canvas at the top left corner. The viewer is meant to be looking at this view of the boats and massive cloud from land and to be peering at the landscape from the very edge of the water due to no land being shown. The primary focus of the painting is the sailboat that is located within the foreground of the painting. The focus divides the painting nearly symmetrically, the sky and the lake are almost even and the boat is right in the center to keep the painting balanced. The sailboat also in a...

...would like it but it soon become apparent to me that this place was special. As I walked closer the smell becomes more pungent, the intensity of it increases. The closer I get the addiction to the smell comes over me, wanting more the closer I move. The smell isn’t helped by the sea breeze blowing head on like a snowball being thrown into your face. It’s cold. As I close my eyes I can hear the slow and monotonous drone of the wind turbines. I’m knee depth in the long green grass that sways from side to side in the wind. From time to time you’ll just see the tip of my dogs head as she jumps above the top of the grass. Beyond the grass is a path where cyclists race along. All you hear as they pass by is the music blaring from their headphones as they compete individually against each other. Walking over the path I move closer to the edge of the cliff so that I can take in the spectacle of what this place is. From the top of the cliff the sand sparkles as the sunlight briefly breaks through the thick layer of cloud overhead. The light hits pale white cliff face and reflects off as if it has hit a mirror. I look down and see the small jagged rocks opening up to create a pathway down to the glistening sand. My dog sprints pass my leg with one goal on making it to the sand before me. I step down after my dog and the wind suddenly dies down. The heat from the sun intensifies and feeling of warm rushes through my body. The smell is now my addiction as I inhale more air with every breath...

Hills Like White Elephants

...pleasant, full of life type of background. There were trees, a river, plenty of green plants and one cloud that was going by. To the average reader, they would take this information and see it just as how it was, just the scenery that the author wanted his story to take place in. In this English class and the one I have previously taken, I have learned that there is usually a reason that authors chose the scenery and the other words that they choose. In class we discussed and started explaining how things that were used in the scenery could also be used to show the different views the couple was having on abortion. When Hemingway is saying that the one side of the crossroads was a brown, dry, lifeless looking hillside it could be him showing that that is how life would be without having this child and going through with the abortion. Her life would be just very clean and not have as many things that would be going on. it was not the prettiest of views, especially not exactly what the woman wanted for herself. On the other hand, the other side of the crossroads there was another view. One could say this would be a way of showing how life would be if they were to have this baby. This side showed a side that was full of life and other beautiful things. It had a river, trees, and plenty of green plants. When they use the color green that can stand for something. I have learned that green can be used to symbolize growth. Growth would be a significant part in their lives...

Colors

...The world of nature is colourful and bright and human ingenuity cannot hope to match it. Right from the sky above to the sea below, nature abounds in the richness of colour. The human eye and the human mind respond to this world of colour and identify themselves with it. When a person is cheerful and bright we refer to him as a 'colourful personality', similarly the different colours are used to indicate human moods and attitudes: blue is associated with depression, white is likened with serenity, green with jealousy and red with rage. Colour is also used to relieve tension. Psychologists have investigated the effect of colour on the working ability of workers and have come to the conclusion that certain colours are more conducive to Positive thinking than others. The power of colours cannot be denied, more so, as it is the soul instance of life on earth. Although sight and the human brain has helped in identifying colours and their delights, it's interesting to note what colours mean to us in totality. The power of colours and their meanings has been enlisted below. RED: More than half the globe loves this colour. We sure agree. Red is the second-most favorite colour on earth. Be it the Ferrari red or a svelte red dress, red is an intense colour, and defines many emotions and moods. The most important being, the colour of love, passion, seduction, and desire. It also defines enthusiasm, power, and heat. This colour also represents anger, violence, and aggression. Red...

Wolf

...I needed to get some air and there was a nice little park across the street. I picked the biggest tree that I could hide under. I noticed as I was walking, the tree was beautiful and full of life. The leaves were starting to change from fresh green color to yellow and orange which I always found very pretty and calming. As I sat down I saw a father and his young daughter playing on the swing. It felt odd to me, seeing a father care for his daughter so much that he seemed that he wanted to be there. The girl with brown curls and was at least five years old got off her swing and went straight to the slide. Her foot seemed to miss its beat and fell. I thogtyuttyutyutyutuytuytuytyutyuuuuuuugh about going over and seeing if she was okay but my body was so slow. Nothing could make me get up at this point. Her father ran over to her faster than you could think possible. Calming her cries and letting her know that he was there. I always wished I had someone there who would catch me when I fell. I laughed at the thought. I realized then that I did have someone there not so long ago but that was over now... just like everything else. I looked up at the clouds annoyed at myself and the girl with the loving father. Wondering again why this all had to happen to me. Why nothing ever went right. Why everything good I had seems to leave me. I did this a lot. Always wondering, always trying to find out what I did wrong. This time I not only had, but needed to find it out. Mt. Mckinley Descriptive

...Out the window, a palette of colors stretchs out beneath me, like an artist’s canvas. An expanse of twisting brown rivers and mats of green shrub pass below, as the majestic, snow-covered Mt. McKinley rises in the distance. Glaciers cascade down from the summit, like highways racing into the valleys. A gust of wind blows against the plane, causing it to shudder. I am overcome by a feeling of insignificance, as we quickly advance towards the immense mountain. The plane takes a sharp turn and prepares to land on Eldridge Glacier. Other planes, already resting on the surface of the glacier, appear to be the size of a child’s toy. Our plane shakes again and swiftly descends. Looking down within the ice crevices and pools, we observe a vibrant shade of blue that cannot be...
