Hot Wheels Hearing the commercial “Hot Wheels” is an attention catcher. Growing up as little boy, all I had were toy cars. That’s what the majority of kids had as a child, their toy cars which were hot wheels. When I went to the park, I would see other kids play with their toy cars and scream “Hot Wheels!” Hot wheels would be in commercials during every kids show from Nickelodeon, Disney, KTLA Saturday mornings. When I see a Hot Wheels commercial, I see nice cars going in extreme speeds and crashing into one another thinking that it was okay to do so. This toy brand does a great job in persuading little boys to get this type of toy. When Lin talks about Barbie and how every little girl wants it due to the marketing of Mattel, “Constantly feeding the public with newer shinier toys, the Barbie enterprise illustrates America’s propensity for consumerism. Upon close examination, Barbie products foster materialism in young females through both their overwhelmingly large selection and their ability to create a financially carefree world for children, sending the message that excessive consumption is acceptable. This consequently perpetuates the misassumption that ‘ the American economy is an endlessly fertile continent whose boundaries never need be reached”. I agree with what Lin is saying because Mattel does a great job to persuade kids get their product thinking that it’s okay to have more. Every Saturday morning I woke up trying to watch my favorite show like Yu-Gi-Oh. None of the commercials really caught my eye, but when Hot Wheels came up I couldn’t help myself but to watch. The way those cars looked and how they sped off on the tracks just hit me. I wanted that product. Also, when the kids were playing with the car in the commercial, their faces lit up with excitement. At the time, brothers Aldo and Rodolfo controlled equal 50% shares of the company, though contributed less to the company than he and his sons did. He sold luggage imported from Germany and offered customers with repair services. As the luggage business prospered, he opened his own workshop to produce his own design.
