Initiating a clinic in the Cook Devos Health Science building will bring advantages and disadvantages to the Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Several strengths can be discussed such as currently there is no urgent care on the medical mile, the clinic would be a great practice site for health students, heavy traffic passing the building from different directions, and additional source of revenue for GVSU. Opponent of the clinic stated that lack of funding for staff and infrastructure would be a major issue as well as limited parking space, and competition with the GVSU Family Health Center. Several of the strengths and weaknesses will be discussed further.Currently, there is no urgent care on the medical mile therefore, placing the GVSU Minute Clinic in the Cook DeVos Health Science would be a monumental step not only for the university itself, but also for the community. Being the only clinic in the vicinity, the facility would attract diverse patients/clients.

The nursing department at GVSU could utilize the clinic as a clinical practice site for the students enhancing their clinical expertise. The students would benefit from practicing their clinical skills to different and diverse consumers visiting the clinic. Administering flu shots could perfect intramuscular injection technique. The students can also practice taking blood pressure and checking blood sugar. Starting intravenous peripheral line would be another critical clinical skill can be performed at the clinic. The clinical practice site would ensure the students receive the resources and supports needed to achieve goals in their higher education in which correspond with the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) strategic plan 2016-2021. The clinic could also be utilized as internship opportunities for many other disciplines, not just nursing
