Introduction
The Hammurabi’s Code was meant to ensure justice for everyone, but not equally. Upon reading the codes, I realized that there was a great deal of inequality between genders and social classes. In some cases, paying a sum to the elders helped get you out of being executed. Slaves were looked at as property rather than individuals. Helping a slave escape was just the same as theft. If someone’s house was a target for burglary, the community would compensate for stolen goods. Nevertheless, this would only apply to those of high social status considering the poor didn’t have much property or goods.
