The child I chose for this project is a five year old little girl who is in kindergarten. She is classified as the Preschooler (purpose) Initiative vs. Guilt under Erickson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development. She is very imaginative. She plays with dolls as though they are her little family and she is there mother. She likes to dress up as if she has created her own magical world. She looks up to her mother greatly. She wants to be just like her mom. If mom has her hair done with makeup on, she wants her hair and nails done as well. She initiates play and conversation very easily. She loves planning parties for her dolls and she enjoys playing games. The mother stated she will sometimes cheat during a game but feels so guilty she ends up telling on herself.
The child is current on all immunizations. She has received Hep B vaccine at birth and two months, three doses of DTap, RV, PCV, IPV from birth to six months. From ages 12-18 months she receives MMR, Varicella, Hep A. The child will receive DTap, MMR, IPV, and Varicella at six years old. Future immunizations she can look forward to are MMV, TDap, as well as the HPV vaccine if the mother chooses to have her daughter receive it. That vaccine will consist of a total of three one will be two months after initial dose and the last will be six months after initial dose. The child has met the expected developmental milestones of a normal five year old from my observation. The child was able to count to 100; she was also able to draw a person with six body parts as well as hair and accessories. She had no difficulty copying shapes and matching them with the correct color. She can print the Alphabet and spell her name. Spelling her name was not a expected developmental milestone for a five year old but she did it with no difficulties. Throughout this paper I will go more in detail on specific milestones for a five year old. A Nursing intervention appropriate for this child is to educate the parents on safety as the child yearns for more independence, nutritional information, and on the emotional changes of a child this age. Anticipatory guidance for the parent is that the five year old will begin feeling very independent at times and may want to do activities you usually do with them alone. If the activity is safe try allowing her some freedom to do so
Physical Assessment This child falls right above the 50th% on a growth chart for a five year old. A screening that can be done is iron deficiency screening just to make sure her iron levels are sufficient. Nutrition is very important at this age by helping the child grow physically but also developmentally. Most children at this age tend to want processed foods like hot dogs and chicken nuggets. Encourage the child to substitute apples or carrots in place of cookies or French fries. Make eating healthy appealing to you child by making it fun. Include her in meal preparations. For example give them a chef hat it will give them a sense of purpose and they will want to eat the masterpiece you and your child created. I observed nothing abnormal during my assessment.
Communication
The parent identified that the child can speak clearly, tell elaborate stories using full sentences with future and past tense words and describe the meaning of words and how they are used. The parent also stated the child can say her name and birthday, but still gets the numbers mixed up on her phone number and address. The parent believes the child has met all communication milestones. My observation matched the parents’ statements. The child engaged in a full conversation with me. She told me all about school and her monster high dolls and also told me what she was going to do at dance the following day. She had no difficulty describing the meaning and usage of words that were age appropriate. As far as screening recommendations, I would tell the parent to get visual and hearing screenings by six years of age. Being able to catch any abnormalities early will help the child progress successfully in learning and communication. I would educate the mother to continue to practice reading and writing and as the child excels in communication express the importance of not just communicating with unfamiliar people especially when the parent isn’t present.
Social/Emotional
The parent identifies the child has met all social and emotional milestones for the age of this child. From my observations the child is aware of her gender and the difference in boys and girls. When I was observing the child play with another child I seen she was very willing to play and very friendly. She taught her new friend how to play Connect Four with a lot of patience. She showed great concern for the other child. I also observed the child seems to meet and even exceed some of the milestones for a five year old. Most children at this age have a hard time following rules of a game especially if they lose; they tend to result to cheating so they can win. This child not only knew and accepted the rules, but was able to teach another child her age. She responds to other children with playful conversation and is very friendly. She interacts with adults very well by using manners if it’s an adult she knows her playful vivacious personality comes out. With strangers she tends to stick to her mom a little more until she wars up but will speak when spoken to. There is no specific screening tool for this set of milestones, but if the parent has any concerns it is best they contact their healthcare provider and get the proper referral. I Education I would give the parent is that the child is now really understanding the meanings of being angry, happy, sad etc. So encourage your child to express those feelings properly. This child looks up to her parent so as a parent the way you handle feelings in front of her child should be appropriate. The child will react the same way they seen the parent react.
Mobility
The parent identifies the child has met all mobility milestones. My observation matched the parents’ observation. The child was able to stand on one foot for longer than ten seconds. She did several somersaults in a row; she skipped with no difficulties up and down the sidewalk. A screening recommendation for this child is to have her parent annually take the child to the doctor for a well child checkup. They will assess developmental, physical growth, cognitive, and mobility to assure the child is where they need to be for their age. Education for this parent is to provide a nutritional diet high in protein. This child is actively growing. Dietary calcium and phosphorus is needed for the mineralization of the teeth. Assure the child receives eleven to twelve hours of sleep a night and allow the child to have sixty minutes of physical activity a day. These educational recommendations will help the child grow and develop in many ways. .

...In this essay, I am going to talk about two of the many things that make me feel happy and what I think it means to be happy. The first thing that makes me happy is being surrounded by the people you love and care for, which is family. Being closer to your family makes me happy. It is always good to be around those that love you more often than being apart from them. My family almost always gets together on Sundays. We go to my grandmother’s house and spend the day with each other. I find this to be relaxing and I feel that having people that care for each other makes you a happier person. Also, when people have children they should be there for them because they will live a healthier life if their parents are in their life more often. It is also good to notice and acknowledge kids when they accomplish their goals because it will make them and yourself happier than if you just ignore them. Family is also a very important part of one’s life because they will always be there for you until you die. Whereas, a wife or significant other may not be there for you until you die or in times of need. This is because they can always leave even after years and years of being with one another. The second thing that makes me feel happy is being able to live and enjoying life. I do not really stress, the reason for it, is because there is nothing to stress about. I enjoy my life and that is what makes me happy. Another thing, is that I accomplish the goals that I set for myself....

...I'll share a few tips from my heart on being and staying happy in Jesus. * "Are any among you in trouble? They should pray..." - James 5:13 Pray; my joy begins and ends in God and I can confidently say that the joy of the Lord is truly my strength. You cannot be happy while you insist on carrying your own burdens. The Bible says that we cast our cares on the Lord. Now the way to do this is by prayer. I do not expect to be happy while my God is angry at me. So be it burdens of sin -by the way disobedience to God will snuff the joy out of you cause joy is from the Holy Spirit and He can get grieved by us when we do wrong!-, worry, anxiety, depression, name it! I will lay it at His feet and His cross and take on His yoke. I realized that if I truly want to be happy all the days of my life, then I should seek diligently to be full of all that God is. * ------------------------------------------------- "...Are any among you happy? They should sing praises." ------------------------------------------------- James 5:13 Be grateful; My heart "glows" when I appreciate someone. And it does so when am appreciated as well. Being grateful helps you appreciate and be content with what you have. A sincere thank you to God and people around you will go a long way in helping you stay happy about what you already have. When is the last time you said thank you? Take your time with God today, give thanks sincerely and see how that works for you....

...One essential standard for living is being able to be happy. Happiness can be found in many different forms. It can be found with the purchasing of inanimate objects that better our living styles or it can be found with someone else that you associate with. The latter is the more imperative of the designs of happiness. In order to be truly happy you need to be able to understand that everything is good within your own life and that you are able to be happy with the people that are in your life and the people that influence how you live your daily life. Happiness is all of the good that someone experiences combined into one emotion. This emotion can, and usually does, bring out the best in people. For someone to be happy they need to know that everything that has happened in their past has happened for a reason and that it has happened in order for them to become a better person. Not only does it make them a better person but it also makes them realize how good they have it or can possibly have it. Although things might be hard to deal with at the moment, people need to realize that they will be able to learn from their experiences and that they will learn to take the good from them all. In the end, the hard times will help people strive for happiness. Happiness isn't free. You have to earn it and work to keep...

...Do You Have What It Takes to Be Happy? By Stacey Colino 1.If you add up money, beauty, fame, and admiration, you’ve got the formula for a lifetime of bliss, right? Wrong. The truth is, your financial status, external circumstances, and life events account for no more than 15 percent of your happiness quotient, studies show. What elements do make a difference? Surprisingly simple internal factors such as having healthy self-esteem, a sense of optimism and hope, gratifying relationships, and meaning and purpose in your life have the most influence, according to recent studies on what researchers call “subjective well-being” 2.If that sounds like a tall order, here’s the good news: Even if they don’t come naturally, many of the attitudes and thought patterns that influence happiness can be cultivated, which means you can boost your capacity for happiness today—and in the future. “Studies with twins reveal that happiness is somewhat like a person’s cholesterol level—it’s genetically influenced, but it’s also influenced by some factors that are under our control”, explains David Myers, Ph.D., a social psychologist at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and author of The Pursuit of Happiness (Harper Collins, 1993). In other words, while your genetically determined temperament has a fairly strong influence on your happiness quotient, you can nudge it upward with the attitudes and approaches you bring to your life....

...Natural Law Theory & Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics, & Recent Theories of Rights: Rawls & Nozick. Natural Law Theory: Natural Law theory in ethics is not to be confused with the laws of nature as put forward by physicists or other natural scientists, but they are related and do overlap. In moral domains, we are not concerned to give a mathematical, experimentally based theory of ethics or justice, but we are concerned with the general order of nature and how human life is nestled in and depends on that order. For example, life (& its preservation) depends on observing the necessities and limitations of nature, how we are dependent on food, shelter, parents and a community and the satisfying of other natural needs for life to exist, continue and prosper. The most prominent philosophers & political thinkers in this line of thought include the following: ancient - Plato, Aristotle, & later Cicero & other Roman statesmen; medieval - St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas & other thinkers in the Judeo-Christian tradition; modern - John Locke, & of course Thomas Jefferson & the “founding fathers” of the American republic. According to almost all of these authors, the natural order ultimately depends upon a first ordering principle that established the relation between man and nature. That first principle is commonly referred to as God or Creator, as indicated, for example, in the opening of Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence. One line of reasoning introduced by Plato is......

(Buyer-Driven Global......

It is the portion of the selling price that contributes to paying off the fixed cost (after covering VC). ❖ When the total contribution margin is exactly equal to total fixed costs, sales are at the Break-Even Point. The contribution of each unit sold beyond BEP is the increment of profit. ❍ At n = B the sum of contributions from units equals the total fixed cost. The contribution of each unit sld beyond n = B is an increment of profit. ❍ Example 5-1: If VC is 60% of sales; with unit price at $10/each and FC = $40,000. What is the total sales? Sales @ BEP = a (Sales @ the BEP) + TFC X = .60(X) + $40,000 X = $100,000 To find break-even in units: $100,000/$10.00 = 10,000 or BEP in units = TFC/(Price-VC per unit) $40,000/($10.00-$6.00) = 10,000 ❍ Example 5-2: A small coal mine can produce a max of 100,000 tons per month.
