Has Technology made the world a better place to live?

This is a frequently asked question these days. Enchanted by the rapid development of technology and its impact on our lives we are beginning to believe that it has made our lives better. But has it? The basic question is "what is a better place"? Is it travelling faster, communicating better, getting quicker access to information etc. Technology helps in the learning process and scientific discoveries but has increased animosity between men and nations. The animosity among nations has enhanced the scale of destruction. You only have to look at the two world wars and the havoc that the improved technology inflicted on millions of people including women, children and the sick; large scale destruction of the cities like London, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. More people got killed and cities razed to the ground in WW I and II alone than in the entire history of mankind till then.

There is little doubt that Technology has made our world modern and high-tech. But look at the price we had to pay. The destruction of natural habitat, global warming, erratic typhoons, floods, nuclear arsenal, incurable diseases and dwindling morality. Our children have become addicted to computer games. Whereas previously you could see children engaged in outdoor sports in playing fields and parks which was not only healthy but also developed team spirit and respect for others. Now they are busy on their PCs, tablets or smartphones totally absorbed and unaware of what's going on around them. Same thing can be seen in family or friends gathering. You see kids and even adults glued to theirs high-tech gadgets not interested in what's going around.

Technology made many things easier but destroyed many human values and social infrastructure. Technology made things complicated. It in a way increased laziness and made more people sick....

...Was the world a better place to live in 50 years ago or is it better now. Personally the world is a better place and a much safer place now. The world has drastically changed from 1964 to 2014. Women’s rights, civil rights, medicine and child protection programs have been developed and somewhat perfected in this era. What makes the world a better place to live? One thing that is very important is the law. The law has to be fair to every citizen no matter what origin of race, nation or creed. The law must protect its citizen and help immigrants from other countries who need a better opportunity from the country they seek refuge from. The law has to envelop a type of mechanism to protect itself from corrupt officials or senators with harmful ambitions. The law must act swift and punishments must be carried to show the public that the law will be enforced no matter the status. Whether the person is rich or poor, black or white they need to all be under the law, everyone. Another thing that makes the world a better place to live is the effort or maximum opportunities to get a living, education and well-being to live such as medicine. The world would be a very difficult place to live if there wasn’t any opportunities for a living to get a job or own land or even raise children. Another important need is everyone should have opportunity to go to school get an education not only the aristocracy. The aristocracy and their families should not be the only people who can have an......

...blame technology for destroying nature and causing pollution, and say that it is the worst evil in the world , I still believe that it has greatly changed our lives for the better as we hardly imagine what would happen if we went for a day without technology.  Technology is very popular in our daily life thanks to its advantages. As we know, firstly, technology in household helps people do the housework. For example, housewives do not need to wash manually, but they can use washing machine. Another reason why I advocate the viewpoint that technology has made the world a better place to live is that it makes the world smaller. Nowadays people can travel faster and easier to other places by car, bus and air-plane, and see many new interesting things around the world. In addition, they communicate with people in different countries through the Internet and phones, which saves them lots of time and money.  But the most worthwhile benefit technology has brought to us is that it makes us healthier and happier. Clear progress in medicine, use new technologies to diagnose and combat diseases make therapy more effective. It allows us to cure serious diseases such as cancer and cardiopathy. Statistics show that life expectancy is getting longer. In Europe, for example, today life expectancy has climbed past 80 and people are glad to be alive; the longer they live in good health, the happier they feel they are. So, as we go forward into this ‘magical future’, will technology......

Lost in Convience

...have made advances in technology for the sake of convenience. With the advancements of knowledge in our ever changing world inconvenience has become a thing of the past, or has it? In almost every aspect of one’s life we deal with technology. It is how we deal with that technology decides whether it is useful or not. In this essay, I will address the ways technology has affected my life and the lives of my friends and family through my own observations, experience and actions. Thinking of both convenience and technology in terms of comfort, it can work for us or against us. Technology has taken us away from the discomfort of everyday life that is now a thing of the past. Presently, people no longer know how to be self sufficient; technology has made us incompetent and unable to function without it. The convenience of technology brought us the remote control, so we now no longer get off the couch. Striving for comfort has removed us from the dinner table and into a fast food drive-thru. This quick and easy route has taken us away from quality time spent with the family. Technology has made us lazy, overweight, and unprepared. We have let technology take over our lives with and create a demand that if taken away would topple our society, so much so that people involve every aspect of their life, from their business and their children, with the technology. Now more than ever inventions are being made to make life easier, and make people more comfortable in the modern world.......

...Technology has really made our life very easier and has made a greater place to live. Technology in the recent century has grown tremendously we have mobile phones, airplanes and off course computer which had made our lives very simpler. Its very difficult to imagine a world without mobile phones and computer. I do really think the technology has really made our lives very simpler. Alexander Graham Bell who has invented telephone in the 19th century would have never thought that his invention would be so much advanced now. Earlier phone was just used for communication between persons but now it has become a part of our lives. The innumerable application which comes with mobile phones has made our lives very simpler. How often we have seen the advertisement in the television that never get lost when you have the mobile phone in your hand. Gone are the days where we would ask for directions to go to a particular place. Computers I think was the greatest invention, it helps us to do almost everything. How often do we use a dictionary or a encyclopedia to find out a details of a particular thing nowadays. How often do we visit a bank or pay the telephone\electricity bills by going to the respective offices. Gone are the days of queue and waiting. It has made our world closer and our near and dear ones even much more closer through internet. I do really think that technology has made our life very simpler and made the world a better places to live, even if technology is......

Technology

...Advances in technology have brought about changes in almost every part of the world. People from opposite ends of the earth can now be in constant communication. The health industry is making effective use of modern technology, enabling people everywhere to live longer, and healthier lives. Many schools are integrating aspects of modern technology into the classroom. Teachers today have new tools and methods at their disposal, to pass knowledge to students. As a child, I took computers for granted, and could hardly imagine the thought of living without them. This makes me question how the advancement of modern technology could be shaping our lives in many ways for the better, or worse. In 1950, the average life expectancy of a man living in the United States was almost seventy. For the last sixty years that number has increased steadily. A man born in 2014, in the United States, would have a life expectancy of almost eighty years. Many factors likely contributed to the increase in life expectancy. Most pivital, were the advancements made in the study of medicinal technology. Doctors now have access to technology that would have seemed like fantasy, a few years ago. Machines like an x-ray can now look into our bodies, and capture images with great detail. The images can then analyzed by a doctor, and if necessary, immediate action can be taken. As a result of the great deal of information available to doctors today, the need for exploratory surgeries has......

The More Elaborate Our Means of Communication, the Less We Communicate.

...communication, the less we communicate" - this expression is relevant today. Thanks to the advent of the internet and cellphones, we can now communicate in faster and better ways. In my opinion, this is largely a positive development. However, there are some negative aspects as well. On the one hand modern communication technology has made our lives easier and faster. The inability to instantly communicate with our friends, relatives and business partners living in the same or different parts of the world has changed our lives for good. Cellphones allow parents to know the whereabouts of their children no matter where they are in the world. Online chats allow consumers to connect with businesses and get solutions to their problems. And with video chats businesses can communicate with their partners and clients in other countries without having to travel to those places. This arrangement saves money as well as time. Technologies like VoIP have made online communication cheaper. And if one mode of communication fails, we can always resort to the other. Better communication technology also helps people and governments to better prepare themselves for emergencies. On the other hand, improved communication technologies have also made our lives more complicated. Worse, they have led to greater isolation. Nowadays technology allows people to access every service they need without having to step outside. As a result, in many countries, especially in the west a growing number of......

...today, the world has changed quite significantly since fifty years ago. There has been much advancement that was created and has greatly improved our lives. Fifty years ago, it was the year 1963 and there was not as many of the great things that were invented today. Many people struggled with certain things which today have now been known to become easier for us to accomplish. Inventions have tremendously grown in the medical field leading to new technological equipment and as well as important environmental research that we have learned over the last fifty years. With the growth of these certain measures, the world has changed for the better. What we have known throughout the medical field fifty years ago has changed in so many different ways. Many people have died from little to serious injuries only because we did not have the proper equipment to use. Doctors did not have the knowledge or treatments to save a patient’s life. Treatments today such as chemo therapy have been used effectively around the world. Breast cancer, which would surely have killed in 1962, has now become treatable. With the newer medical equipment today, doctors can now perform more effective surgeries. Complications were known to have happened in surgeries back fifty years ago. Serious medical emergencies such as someone having a heart attack did not have a high percentage of survival only because doctors could not perform any procedures to save the patient’s life. Today, medical equipment has......

So personaly speaking, I am, and probably will always be, one of those who agree with the idea that technology has made the world a better place to live. First of all, technology has brought with it a more comfortable life. Not only do we use aircondition and heating system during the summer and winter, but also do we take many changes in food preparation methods to make so delicious food. Due to the development of architecture and so on, living conditions are greatly improved nowadays. Besides, the world is now more convenient to live. We can travel around by aeroplane and railway network. We can talk to each other faraway by telephone. Several score years ago, it was even daydreaming that we could today obtain information as well as commodities via Internet. The last but not the least, through the process of technology improvement, people begin to realize the fact that only reconciling with the nature can we keep a continuous development. That is why we today pay so much attention to environmental protection. Many factories have achieved economic growth without pollution under certain new technology. These cities are beginning to be very beautiful places to live in. Instances of the same sort can be multiplied indefinitely. When taking into account all these merits we may safely arrive at the conclusion that advantages of technology......
