QUALITY OF LIFE AND FUNCTIONING

Personal Perception
My perception about quality of life and health promotion might affect my care for a dying patient is determined by my religious belief that god rewarded us with a sacred gift, life, and it should be honored at every stage and challenge that we face. The quality of life should be respected and upheld in any way possible; with pride regardless the circumstances face it. Life at any stage has its excellence as long as God allows it and all the treatment during severe illness and during their final stages of life, they should be promoted to the comfort and meet of the sick or dying person and their loved ones in a humble and respected manner. One key quality of life is the emotional and psychological well-being of the patient, which is supported through interpersonal relations like social relationships. Emotional well-beings can be upheld by many different factors, for example, economic, personal improvement, self-determination and control, physical welfare, and the right to dignity, privacy and worth. All of these examples are a part of a major role in maintaining the quality of life and promoting health (Edgerton, 1996; Lehman, Rachuba & Postrado, 1995). The nurse’s opinion about the quality of life becomes an important factor for the type of service that will be sent to the patient and their family. In order for the health care worker to help provide quality care that helps the health and the life of the patient, but first they need to understand the real importance of quality of life and health. One cannot help uphold the quality of life even when their facing terminal illnesses like

Hat Task 2

...Running head: HAT Task 2 1 HAT Task 2 Anita Worley Community Health Practice March 27, 2013 Western Governor’s University A. Personal Perceptions As a Registered Nurse for thirteen years in an acute care hospital setting, I have tended to many dying patients. It is my personal belief that quality of life and health promotion are imperative to the care of the terminally ill patient. Personally, I am a big fan of palliative care nursing. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines palliative care as “an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial, and spiritual.” B. Strategies Improving Mrs. Thomas’ quality of life would comprise of assisting her with her increased level of pain, limited amount of emotional support, and financial concerns. Firstly, Mrs. Thomas’ physical comfort needs addressed immediately. As evidenced by the patient spending large amounts of her day crying in bed, her pain is not under control. As her nurse, I would listen to her fears about addiction, but discuss quality of life versus drug addiction. I would explain how once her pain is tolerable, she will be able to assume a more productive, engaged role in her own life. Secondly, addressing Mr. and Mrs. Thomas’ financial...

Hat 1 Task 2

...Community Health Nursing: Quality of Life and Functioning A. Personal Perceptions After reviewing the case of Mrs. Thomas and her situation, there are many feelings I have about the final outcome. As nurses, we always have to take our feelings into account and rationalize what we feel about the health and well being of our patients. After a BRAC analysis was performed, significant results were indicated. I feel empathy for Mrs. Thomas because this technology showed what her odds were for future recurrence of breast cancer. I’m disappointed that a radical mastectomy was not suggested to be performed with Mrs. Thomas’ first surgery to help avoid a further decline. It appears almost obvious that this should have been encouraged by her medical team. I do, however, understand that it is easier to look back on this than to look forward with what options remain. What is most important is Mrs. Thomas’ quality of life for the duration of what time she has left. I define quality of life as the ability to be as emotionally, physically and mentally fulfilled as possible. Quality of life is finding all the moments that matter and cherishing them on a daily basis. There will be better days than others, but what is key is to understand the big picture. The major challenge is promoting the best quality of life when the big picture ultimately has a poor outcome. Health promotion is crucial to increase Mrs. Thomas’ quality of life. Interventions will be initiated in all areas...

Information Based Decision Making

...| Information based decision making | Unit 5002V1 | | | 4/1/2015 | Task 1 (600-700 words): A.C.1.1 – Examine the nature of data and information Data comprises of factual information. Data are the facts from which information is derived. Data is not necessarily informative on its own but needs to be structured, interpreted, analysed and contextualised. Once data undergoes this process, it transforms in to information. Information should be accessible and understood by the reader without needing to be interpreted or manipulated in any way. Knowledge is the framework for understanding information and using it to inform judgements, opinions, predictions and decisions – a pyramidal relationship (See diagram 1) Diagram 1: There are 2 types of knowledge: 1) Explicit knowledge (“know that”) – derived from facts, easily communicated via hard data and facts and 2) Tacit knowledge (“know how”) – more of a personal framework informed by beliefs, schemata, mental frameworks, difficult to verbalise or write down, more based on process rather than factual content. In the field of knowledge management, tacit knowledge is individual specific and can be acquired without language through observation and practice. This type of knowledge is acquired through experience, and therefore from a knowledge management perspective, shared experiences are a key platform to share tacit knowledge. A clinical example: The Trust has a standard assessment proforma for new patients...

It is essential to handle this resource carefully and to act target oriented in order to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. Nevertheless, it is important not to lose focus on the core business and to keep the balance between exploitation and exploration. Therefore, it is important to apply creativity in the right way. This application should preserve the stable and working organization from being too chaotic. A general way to divide the various approaches is to cluster them into divergent and convergent techniques. Divergent techniques aim at generating a high number of ideas in order to have a wide range of possible solutions to choose from. In comparison, convergent techniques deal with a certain problem and search step-by-step for a single right solution.1 In the beginning of this paper I want to explain one divergent concept in...

Jieliang Case Study

...JIELIANG PHONE HOME CASE STUDY PROBLEM STATEMENT Jieliang (DL) is a line worker at Precision Electro-Tech’s Dongguan, China manufacturing plant. During a plant walk through, Marty Cole (OEM – Global Team) witnessed Jieliang being publicly disciplined in front of her fellow line workers for not following Total Quality Control (TQC) procedures and using her own method. ANALYSIS Precision Electro-Tech is a large contract manufacturer (CM) that produces products (i.e., cell phones) for another company or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). “In the case of complex assembly tasks, if those tasks can be broken down into simple unit manufacturing steps that can be completely specified, they can be sent to low-cost countries like China where unskilled labor can be trained to follow those steps in detail. This business concept is known as “labor arbitrage” and is the foundation of the global economy and outsourcing (Shih, Bernstein, Bilimoria, 2009).” The above business model of CMs is a tried and true paradigm and is consistent with the lean principles of manufacturing. While this model is widely used, particularly in outsourcing operations; the key is that each step must be clearly defined, delineated, and rigidly followed in order to maximize productivity. The advantage of the CM approach is that it allows OEMs to specify the exact steps in the manufacturing process; ostensibly, to ensure exact specifications and a high level of quality control and efficiency. The nature...

Scaling Challenges

...#1: Passing the Hat AS a start-up, executives need to be prepared to wear more than one functional hat to be successful. As you scale, however, you must carefully oversee the process of passing those hats to new executives and managers that join the team. This looks easy on paper (just draw up the new org chart), but it can prove extremely challenging in practice. While it is easy to pass the hat in form, it may not be easy to pass the hat in substance when the on-boarding of the new hat owner is arduous, i.e., big learning curve, lots of important internal relationships, and so forth. As long as the old hat-owner offers greater knowledge and effectiveness in the relevant functional area, everyone in the organization will gravitate to her for decisions and support, regardless of what the new org chart says. The problem can be further exacerbated if the old hat owner isn’t all that willing to pass the hat in the first place or if the old hat owner is too willing and runs away from the responsibility faster than the new executive can get up to speed. Poor hat passing can result in confusion, frustration, conflict, executive turnover and ultimately poor business performance. Hat passing is tricky business that requires the buy-in all of all those affected, a solid foundation of respect between the two hat-passers, and a thoughtful approach to managing the transition. Without these fundamentals in place as you are scaling, you may find that you are dropping more hats than you are...

Is 3440 Project Part 1

...INTRODUCTION (Task 1) First World Bank Savings and Loan (also referred to as “us”, “we”, “the company”, etc) has been investigating the use of a Linux-based infrastructure architecture. The task team has already made recommendations to evaluate and prototype this kind of set up. Key factors are cost of ownership, scalability, and reliability. Other factors that remain are maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability (the CIA triad), and ensuring stable, secure support of the over $100,000,000 in transactions completed annually. As a financial institution, we must also bear in mind compliance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), as well as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) since we process credit card transactions, and the Sarbanes-Oxely Act (SOX) as we are publically traded. Regardless of all these factors, rough estimates indicate we can save close to $4,000,000 in licensing fees alone by moving to a Linux-based infrastructure. Despite the open source nature of Linux, we should be able to meet all of the technical, legal, and security needs for this transition. TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS (Task 2) Thanks to the task team assigned to this project, an outline of what the network and routing needs has already been completed. The following services will be required to support: • A database server o Recommended solution: DBMS MySQL • A Web server o Recommended solution: Apache • A file server o Recommended solution: Red Hat Enterprise/Samba ...
