...; Financial sector and its improvement and growth since the formation of Pakistan. At the time of partition there were only 631 bank branches in area which came under Pakistani control. But due to blood shed and violence at large scale, most of the branches were closed. At that time Bank of India was acting as cent al bank for both countries and same currency notes were used in both territories. But Reserve Bank of India was biased and Set down Pakistan on many occasions such as the issue of funds transfer etc. Thus some drastic steps were taken in government sector for the improvement of overall position. The private sector also responded positively. Some of the steps taken by the government in this regard were as under : Inauguration of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on 1st July, 1948. ...Assignment #1 The assignment is to be uploaded to Turnitin. USE YOUR OWN WORDS when writing the assignment; if you copy-paste from the internet, Turnitin will read that as copying and you will receive an F on the assignment. These assignments are very straight forward and I will not be grading them hard. In other words, I’m not trying to catch you in some error so that I can mark you down; I just want to make sure you understand the basics. This assignment should be broken up in two paragraphs, each answering one of the two questions. Use the class readings to answer the questions; the word limits are 300-400 words (no more and no less). The first assignment is as follows: Describe how David Hume’s price specie flow mechanism was supposed to work under a pure gold standard system. Work out exactly what happens under this system when the balance of trade in a country is out of balance (you can use the example of a trade deficit, a trade surplus or both). Write down exactly how the mechanism works to balance out the trade so that a deficit or a surplus is not allowed to continue for a long time (this should take the form of a paragraph). The adjustment mechanism (read Oatley for the meaning of this concept) in the postwar period had to be different than the purely market-based one of the interwar period (the price specie flow mechanism that David Hume described). Using the readings assigned so far on Keynes and the Bretton Woods system, what are the elements......
