...Motivational and Organizational Culture Shirley Doctor HCA/250 August 21, 2011 Connie McKelvey Management plays several different roles but one major role is Communication. Communication is a transfer of understanding and meaning from one person to another (p. 320). Everything that management does involve communication. Communication is verbally as well as non-verbally. Ex. You must know how to write. If you’re writing some information down to present to your employees and when you have poor writing skills, they wouldn’t understand what you’re trying to say. That’s because you have poor communication skills. Nothing can take place without communication. A business wouldn’t survive without good and effective communication. A person can’t manage a business if he or she speaks broken English? Your employees wouldn’t be able to understand you. I had a manager that was from Russia and he spoke broken English. He didn’t like to repeat himself, but we couldn’t figure out what he was saying. To avoid embarrassment, the result was he transferred too another department. Ineffective communication skills can result in errors for a management. Ex. My educational trainer was telling me “that she needed to change my password in order for me to do my training on OSHA.” I told her “that she would have to contact national because I was the trainer on night shift before I came on day shift.” She totally ignored me and kept on doing the procedure to change my password. It still...

...Motivation and Organizational Culture Paper Kimberly Y. Curry University of Phoenix (Axia College) HCA-250 Dennis Matricardi March 11, 2012 Motivation and Organizational Culture Paper Today’s topic of discussion is the role management should play in workplace psychology. In this discussion, I will be discussing a situation with Chinese immigrant by the name of Ayame Nakamaura. Ayame Nakamura is employed as a project manager for a pharmaceutical company. The management style for this pharmaceutical company is confrontational, and interferes with Ayame’s cultural beliefs. This particular style of management makes Ayame’s ability to receive feedback difficult to obtain, and affects her motivation to perform. In this discussion I will explain the role management Ayame should play in workplace psychology, how Ayame’s cultural beliefs might affect the way she receives feedback, and describe motivation techniques that could be implemented by management to increase Ayame’s motivation. As we know psychology is the study of human behavior. This includes the human thought process and human emotion. Psychology gives us an understanding of human nature and the way we interact with other people. When you combine psychology and the workplace together, it is basically the way an individual thinks and act in the workplace towards other employees. Management is an individual who supervises others work progress on the job. Management is usually over an entire department or...

...Abuse Paper HCA/250 10/8/12 Abuse Paper I believe that as more of people become aware of the dangers of smoking tobacco, the percentage of smokers has fallen from around 50 per cent of the population in the 1950s to 25 per cent in 2003. The illnesses can cause cancer, heart disease and respiratory illnesses. Smoking can cause impotence, ulcers and fertility problems and it's doesn't just harm smokers. However, the decline in smoking in the population has leveled off and the percentage of people smoking in the last 10 years seems to have remained at around 25 per cent. But the good news is that about 70 per cent of smokers say they want to quit. Yet success rates for quit attempts are between 10 and 20 per cent. I also believe that the problem starts in the childs childhood, because they start to experimenting with cigarettes in their teens. Children whose parents smoke are twice as likely to start smoking compared to those with non smoking parents. Also I have read that there are 11 to 15 year olds who were most likely to be smokers due to being lonely and had difficulty talking to their parents, had problems at school and started drinking alcohol. When it come to how smoking tobacco affects the workplace I believe that smoking in the workplace often results in higher expenses for employers. These costs are attributed to increased absenteeism, lower productivity, unscheduled smoke breaks...

The peak incidence is generally during the month of March through May lifelong immunity for chickenpox generally fellow the disease. Chickenpox is highly contagious it is easily passed between families and school classmates through airborne particle droplets in exhaled air fluid from the blisters or sores. It can be transmitted indirectly by coming into contact with article of clothing and other item exposed to fresh drainage from open sores. Patients are contagious up to five days (more commonly, one to two days), before and five days after the date that their rash appears. When all of the sores have crusted over they are no longer contagious. Before the rash appears children will get a fever, headache, swollen glands and flu like symptoms. Motivation and Organizational Culture

..., & Coulter, 2011, p. 320). Depending on cultural differences within the company this may be even more critical. For instance, in Japanese culture a lot of importance is placed on the “group” rather than the “individual”. The collectivist culture in Japan incites people to hold the interest of the group above their own and maintain strong ties and obligations to group members. “The Japanese manager will engage in extensive verbal consultation with employees over an issue first before drawing up a formal document later to outline the agreement that was made. The Japanese value decisions by consensus, and open communication is an inherent part of the work setting” (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Coulter, 2011, p. 327). It is also well understood in Japanese culture that keeping employs motivated is the basic foundation and the ultimate measure for success in any business. When considering Ayame’s situation, it is important to note that she is accustomed to a collectivism style of management. In order to better understand how to increase her productivity and wellbeing the management team should take the time to learn a little about her culture. Every good manager has to have a basic knowledge of the various personality types. This enables them to adjust their managerial style to fit ever changing environments and situations. This is the same concept that should be adopted when it comes to cultural differences. Ayame requires positive feedback to encourage her productivity. Whether she......

...HCA/230 “Verbal and Nonverbal Communication” The first principle of communication is recognizing that every language has a significant value. And although there all many different languages in the world, they are all of equal value. The second principle is that even though there are so many languages throughout the world, every language has its own dialect. Everywhere, for example in the United States, has a different dialect of the same language, just in different regions. For example, Americans in the North, South, East, and West all have very different dialects in the United States. Even when it comes to different cities, people have different accents along with different dialects. Vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar are all different throughout the United States. For example, although we all speak the same language, it may not be easy for someone from the North to understand someone as clearly if they’re from the West. The third principle is to understand the fact that what one person says through their vocabulary may not translate to be the same as another’s vocabulary. This is why in most cases, there is miscommunication due to a lack of understanding to another’s vocabulary. The fourth principle of communication is to understand and recognize that even every culture has a different way of speaking and communicating. The fifth, and last principle of communication is to learn to be open minded, to listen to suggestions for more effective verbal communication...

Organizational Structure and Culture Paper

...Organizational Structure and Culture Paper NUR 492 October 21, 2013 Tisa Carlisle Organizational Structure and Culture Paper This paper will review the organizational structure and culture of Palmetto Health, an acute care hospital located in Columbia, South Carolina. The focus will be on the medical-surgical unit. The paper will review the type of organizational structure and how communication is affected by the social and cultural aspects of this hospital. Also discussed is how Palmetto Health provides client-centered care to accomplish their mission statement, “To be remembered by each patient as providing the care and compassion we want for our families and ourselves” (Palmetto Health, 2013). Type of Organizational Structure The type of organizational structure used at Palmetto Health is a hybrid structure. This organizational structure, as it grows, organizes both self-contained units and functional units into a hybrid organization (Sullivan & Decker, 2009). This hybrid structure improves alignment between corporate and service goals. The hybrid structure also encourages better adaptation to the environment while maintaining its efficiency. A weakness of the hybrid structure is conflict between top administration and managers. Managers often resent administrators’ intrusions into what they see as their area of responsibility. Over time, these organizations tend to accumulate large corporate staff to oversee divisions in an attempt to coordinate...

Culture Paper Level 3

... communication, July 13, 2012). Scotland is a western culture with deep rooted traditions. Many Scots’ heritage dates to 500 B. C., when Celtic tribes settled there. Scotland was divided into clans, either by birth or allegiance; each clan had their own tartan, or plaid print, to distinguish their selves. Today, clans are mainly for tourists, but many Scots wear the traditional plaid kilts proudly. Most modern day Scots live in urban areas, watch television and movies, surf the Internet, and enjoy drinking and partying with friends. The people are friendly, but reserved with strangers. Community is important in Scotland. K. Gow explained in government housing, which is usually two stories, elderly are placed on the first floor and younger people above; the younger people are expected to look in on their neighbor and offer their help (personal communication, July 29, 2012). Punctuality is expected in business situations; it is rude to arrive early when visiting friends. Time is not as important to Indonesians; they can arrive two or three hours late without offending anyone. Most Indonesians are quiet and greet others by bowing with their hands together in front of their chest; it is customary for fingers to touch, but touching someone’s head is impolite. They are spiritual people and believe most things in nature have a life force called semangat; in people, semangat is contained in the head, hair, and nails. Heads are considered sacred; hair and nails are carefully disposed...

When individual’s turn to substance abuse and become addicted, they will be dependent on whatever it is they are using to prevent from having physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms, which creates a cycle many cannot break on their own. The second stage is when the individual becomes tolerant to the substance, which causes the individual to start consuming larger amounts of the substance to reach the same effect they had when they first started using. As mentioned before, substance abuse is a very serious public health problem that affects individuals in all areas of their lives, and it does not matter what background they may be coming from. Substance abuse can bring along many problems for the individual that is addicted, as well as their immediate surroundings, including friends, family, and the work environment.
