... employees was not worth the small amount of money gained in the short term but rather employees are much more important. He truly felt that not furloughing people would breed loyalty and trust. This belief is what makes Southwest so unique over the other airlines. Southwest’s management style was also very eclectic. Kelleher expected managers to spend at least one-third of their time out with the employees and customers observing the day to day activities of the airline. Company executives were very approachable and insisted that they be called by their first names. Managers and executives had an open door policy. This policy openly accepted employees’ concerns, opinions, and comments for reducing costs and improving efficiency. Southwest cherishes their employees and that is why their customer service scores were the best in the industry for the years of 1996-2000. The better you treat your employees, the better they will treat others. This was the idea that Kelleher had. Southwest was ranked #1 for the best 100 companies to work for in 1998 by Fortune 500, ranked second in 1999 and 2000 and in 2001 they ranked fourth. Southwest had two core values: LUV and fun. Employees were encouraged to have fun at work. This idea lead employees to enjoy their jobs and ultimately this reflected on the companies profits. Happy employees lead to happy customers. In 1990, the culture committee was set up by Colleen Barrett. This committee promoted...

Merriam Webster further defines marketing as an aggregate of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer (Merriam Webster, 2013). Business Dictionary defines marketing as the management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer. It includes the coordination of four elements called the 4 P's of marketing: Product, Price, Placement, and Promotional Strategy (Business Dictionary, 2013). I believe that marketing is as it has been described by both Merriam Webster and Business Dictionary. The purpose of marketing is to get a product or service from the producer of the product or service to the consumer who will use the product or service. Out, Out-

...How does Frost create a sense of horror in his poem ‘Out, Out-‘ Frosts creates a sense of horror in his poem ‘Out, Out-‘through his use of repetition and the use of caesura and figurative speech. Frost concentrates also on the apparent innocence and passivity of the boy. "Out, Out-" is a poem by American poet Robert Frost, published in 1916. It tells the story of a young boy who dies after his hand is severed by a "saw”. This poem was apparently based on a true story. The title ‘Out, Out-‘is an allusion to William Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth ‘out, out-brief candle’, it refers to how unpredictable and fragile life is like a candle is being blown out. To begin, Personification is used in line 1 personification is used to make the buzz saw more horrifying. ‘The buzz saw snarled and rattled in the yard’. This creates an image of a monster, something dangerous and has a mind of its own The use of personification continues into line 8’ as it ran or had to bear a load’ this shows the reader how destructive this buzz saw is and how effortless it is at it, this also extends the metaphor. Also in line 16 ‘leaped out at the boy’s hand, or seemed to leap-’the saw is still personified and therefore adds horror to this line, the use of the word ‘at’ is emphasized here, like a vicious creature the buzz saw leaped out at the boy’s hand, making it seem like the boy lost all control and is helpless. Also the use of caesura is particularly effective in this part of the poem as it adds...

... criminal justice system. Although they are all different in what they do, they all can work in unison together to accomplish a better result. Deterrence is the fear of punishment in the criminal so that the person will think twice about engaging in criminal behavior. There are a couple types of deterrence; general and specific deterrence. Specific deterrence is used when an offender gets caught, or punished for crimes that they have committed and they decide not to participate in future crimes now that the consequences are now known. General deterrence is the offender getting caught and punished, and is witnessed by the others people. This in turn deters other people not to do the crime themselves so that they can avoid the punishment of the crime. Incapacitation is basically taken the offender out of the equation of the crime so that they will not commit the crime. This goal is mostly obtained with the incarceration goal. It will put the offender in a secure environment so that they will be removed from the public and limit their ability to commit any future crimes. Retribution consist of several different types; incarceration, victim compensation, and community service. Many feel that pay back is the way to go, an eye for an eye, or tit for tat. Rehab tries to change the offenders perception about the crimes they commit, by teaching them the activities they perform are wrong, and giving them treatment or other types of care. It is still being questioned if rehab...

.... Imagine there is no documentation of any historic event or person. It would be impossible to learn from past mistakes. We would know nothing of those who came before us and all of their struggles and successes. We need to study history so we may make informed decisions on very important current events and issues, just look at what we have learned in this past week. France underestimated Vietnam, and so did America, you would think they we would have learned from another countries mistake before going to war for 15 years. If you think what would have happened if America was never discovered by Columbus? I find that statement odd in itself, how can someone discover something where people already live? But imagine if they didn’t come to the new world, there was no American revolution. What would this place look like today? This is why history is important; one belief is that you are the past. If you think of yourself, if someone says explain who you are, you can’t make up things that didn’t happen yet. The main resource for me and probably many others is the internet. The world is literally at your fingertips. Granted there are many websites out there that can have false information but it is best to use reputable web pages. We all know that Wikipedia isn’t one of those webpages since anyone can edit the information. Many times we are tempted to use this page for our information since it is the go to site for nearly everything, but it is best to stay away. Another...

Article 1: Singled Out

...Singled Out I chose this article because we discuss cells a lot throughout the course. I figured this article would give me a better understanding of cells and how they work. Since cells are the basic unit of life I feel that getting a better understanding of their roles and how they work in the human body would help me understand systems and processes that occur in the body. The article seemed as it would be interesting and very informative. The article explains how scientists have come up with a new way to observe cells. There have been changes in imaging techniques which enhances the observation of cells. This new discovery allows scientist to get closer to cells and look at them in more depth. Before scientist observed cells in large groups, but now they are able to look at them in smaller groups and in closer range which allows them to examine the behavior of cells more prominently. Scientists are now able to see difference amongst cells that they thought were very alike. With the new technology cell responses are now more visible and the way cells in a small population react differently to the same conditions is more explainable. Being able to look closer into cells has many benefits. Proportioning out cells into smaller groups and sometimes as singles reveals many things about the environment in which it lives. Scientists believe that they may now be able to predict the outcome of certain treatments by looking at cell differences individually. Although...
