Everyone from different cultures will have their own perspectives when it comes to their health and diseases. The different cultures believe in many ways. Some of the cultures believe in using traditional medicines, some believe in prayer, and some believe in herbal things for the healing, and there are more things that the different cultures may do in order to find the right cure. This can also cause a problem for the different cultures to receive the proper medical help that they may need. Health care providers must keep the basic concepts of treating all of their patients with respect, compassion, and honesty no matter what the culture they may have. If the caregiver has a enhanced understanding of the persons cultural beliefs this would help to improve the relationship with the patients. Jamaicans have a distinctive history and culture. Jamaicans will use their own beliefs to try to heal someone first, if the traditional way will not work then the Jamaicans will try the modern medicine. Jamaicans believe in obeah (is for evil), and Myal (is for healing and to counteract the evil). Jamaicans will usually use bushes and natural remedies in a healing ritual. Jamaicans also have what they call healers and medicine men and priests. Jamaicans also believe that the illnesses and diseases are caused by spiritual forces or a violation of cultural taboos. Most of the illnesses are treated with holistically. Jamaicans use both traditional and biomedical healing practices. Asians Americans face language and cultural barriers. Most of the Asian Americans believe that the doctors do not understand their culture and the way that they believe. So they seem to not go and see doctors they use their own traditions. ...As we get older, it is not uncommon to hear about friends, classmates, relatives, etc. passing away at an age that these days seem young. Cancer has been the cause of so many deaths that whether I held a close relationship to the deceased person or some other connection, I automatically assume it was due to cancer. Unfortunately, for the most part, my guess is right. Cancer appears in so many faces and excludes no one. Briefly reading through the various types of cancer, it seems that some of the risk factors make you feel you should live in a bubble. From what medications to avoid to holistic therapies to diet changes, the means of prevention and management are seemingly endless much like the disease and its variety. Today however, we will focus on colorectal cancer.
