...Associate Level Material Appendix F Career Self-Reflection II Medical regulatory and legal compliance are important areas of health records management. Consider how deeply you might be interested in overseeing these aspects of patient information in your professional work. From what you have learned about compliance issues so far, highlight the choices that best reflect your career interests and explain your reasons: 1. I would enjoy the authority for seeing that documents within patient files are complete, legible, and organized appropriately. • True • False because: While this type of authority comes with greater liability, I like knowing that I can personally ensure that the information provided is not only accurate and complete, but is also organized in a manner that is the most beneficial to my facility. 2. I would enjoy the authority for ensuring that patient files are filed accurately. • True • False because: The accurate filing of patient records is vital to maintaining office standards and streamlining the practices of the office. I would want to guarantee that this procedure was followed correctly, as it is necessary for all office members to more accurately perform their tasks. 3. ...Appendix B LAN Operating Systems Scenarios Read the three scenarios below and answer the questions that follow each scenario. 1. You are the network administrator for a new company that has 10 users and that plans to add 5 more users within a year. The files need to be accessed by all 10 users, and each user must have different security rights. What kind of network would you install? How would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component. I think that for this particular situation I would set up an extended star network. I would choose this one because the business is relatively small and plans to grow, this type of network setup is very easy to add users onto and also still provides the access restriction needed for lower level employees and the ease of access for higher level employees without them being able to see what the other is able to access. “As the name implies, this topology is a star of stars. A central device, usually a switch, sits in the middle. Instead of attached computers forming the star’s arms, other switches (or hubs) are connected to the central switch’s ports. Computers and peripherals are then attached to these switches or hubs, forming additional stars. The extended star is sometimes referred to as a “hierarchical star” because there are two or more layers of stars, all connecting back to the central star (Tomsho, 2011).” I think that this network would be perfect for a small company that...

...Running head: Evaluating Compliance Strategies Assignment: Evaluating Compliance Strategies Name Axia College of University of Phoenix HCR 220 Date “Guidelines established by the healthcare staff and laws established by HIPAA are what make up the compliance process. These laws and guidelines were established to protect the patients, physicians, and staff members” (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, n.d.). Errors in the office can be avoided by having a compliance process in effect. Using updated billing and coding software will help reduce errors made in the billing process. I agree with having a guide consisting of codes to aid in the billing process. I do regard this as cheating rather, to be used as a guide. Many offices currently have sheets that are located on the front of the patients’ file with the diagnosis and the code next to the diagnosis which the physician fills out. This eliminates an unnecessary step in the billing process and is a quicker, easier, and more accurate way to avoid errors. “In order to avoid rejection of the claim, it is important that the diagnoses and procedures are correctly linked” (AAFP, 1999). This also ensures that the claim is paid for the correct procedure performed by the physician. If an incorrect procedure was billed this could result in a loss of money by the physician for the type of procedure that was performed. The claim will have to be adjusted and...

...Week 2 Checkpoint Different standards of medical records documentation have different compliance plans that correspond to them. Staff members must follow all billing rules and medical facilities have to be certain that this is taking place. When filing medical records they have to be accurate: they have to contain the patient’s conditions and diagnoses, and they must trace the patient’s course of care, also they have to have the patient medical history, including family history. Medical records of patients are legal documents; physicians may use them in their defense if they are accused of improperly treating patients. Doctors have to provide documentation for the reasoning behind treatment decisions as a means of protection from lawsuits. This has to be done because it helps prevents lawsuits for malpractice. When the medical facility has rules and compliance plan in place, they have showed that they are committed to finding and preparing any types of weak spots in their management. Some of the areas that are helped when compliance plans are place are: making sure your employees are educated and trained for their position, by doing this is helps prevent future problems in the work place and avoid any type of legal action that can be taking against them. Not just the coding and billing are covered in the compliance plans; every area of government regulation of medical practices is coved as well. The medical billing process has ten different steps that re connected......

...  There are many different types of health plans in this world. One of them is called an Indemnity plan. The plan covers medically necessary medical costs, the insurer will also pay a premium and a deductible. After the premium and the deductible is paid then the patient will pay a coinsurance which is usually a 80-20 percent ratio. The insurance will pay 80% then the rest will need to be cover by the patient. The next plan is called a managed care it uses a method called fee-for-service it has a lower deductibles and premiums, but has a smaller provider network. What happens is the patient will see the provider pay for the services rendered then the provider files a claim with the third party (insurance company) then the insurance will reimburse the the provider and patient, while the patient is paying a premium to the third party to cover their costs. There are several different plans that are offered and use the managed care philosophy. The health maintenance organization (HMO) an HMO offers the capitation to the providers which is a fixed prepaid payment agreement between both provider and third party that is based upon how many patients with the provider. This system works by the patient receiving services from the provider and the patient paying the third party a set premium, while the third party insurance pays the capitation fee to the provider. Point-of-service plans are called an open HMO because it allows more providers in their network but with...

...References Healthcare Financial Management Association By: Banner, Kathy Hardin, phillip Voulume 62/ Issue 7 07/2008 . The best strategy to improve patient intake efficiency, that I didn’t see covered in the weekly reading Medical Insurance is moving more to an electronically base intake, and be sure your team have back up in place, and understand what the process entails, so that the work flow can go smoothly. As we know, when it comes to a Medical office, things can sometimes go wrong, at some point. To improve this process can also mean, keeping a checklist close by, for every patient, that way it helps you to make an accurate the patient intake is the basic process of gathering and retrieving information on new or returning patients. As we all know this process can be different within other facilities, but yet still similar, and can consume a lot of the registration representative’s time. During that process the registrar has the patient look over all demographic information to make sure everything is accurate, if not this would be the time to update any new information. Along with all the medical information, I feel if the process changes up a little by having patients discuss their updates versus put them on paper then, the staff having to transmit the information from paper to electronically would save a great deal of time, However the smaller the practice, the more time consuming this process can be, because there may not be registration staff on...

...University of Phoenix Material Appendix B Research Methods List the advantages and disadvantages of the following research methods: Research Method | Advantages | Disadvantages | Case Study 1. Case study in psychology refers to the use of a descriptive research approach to obtain an in-depth analysis of a person, group, or phenomenon. A variety of techniques may be employed including personal interviews, direct-observation, psychometric tests, and archival records. . | Such detail not normally obtained by other studies, specific and rare cases, the development of original hypothesis used for later testing. | Collecting longitudinal case studies not always being useful, some non-scientific, one client and one subject could lead to a bias result and wrong data will bring different results than others, case-control needed but difficult to obtain. | Correlational MethodCorrelation is a statistical measurement of the relationship between two variables. Possible correlations range from +1 to –1. A zero correlation indicates that there is no relationship between the variables. A correlation of –1 indicates a perfect negative correlation, meaning that as one variable goes up, the other goes down. A correlation of +1 indicates a perfect positive correlation, meaning that both variables move in the same direction together. | More data than experiments- being more applicable to daily life opens up further research, correctional research helps provide a good start for...
