...Various Communication Kelly Downs HCS/320 October 31, 2011 Sandra Anderson Various Communication Channels This presentation of various communication channels will consist of three variable structures of communication. Hospital communication, Nursing home communication, and Security communication are these structures. The channels of communication for a hospital from the admission process, handling the health of patient care, to discharging a patient to their home or rehabilitation center has a focal point of verbal communication added with electronic medical records. The communication channels of a nursing home are displayed in this paper as a chain of command point of view. The security aspect of communication has advantages in written and verbal styles. Allowing the combinations of these channels to intertwine within health care in most organizations and their offices, shows the room for improvement in their written and verbal communication skills. Hospital Communication During the admission process of a patient, there is a communication channel between the hospitalist and the primary care physician, PCP. The patient has to give consent to contact their primary care physician. There is a difference in patient care between hospitals and ambulatory care appointments. The hospitalist has a team of medical staff to work with while the PCP has a few nurses that will assist the physician during a patient’s office visit. As part of this medical team, one to the first...

Hcs 320 - Communication Paper

...Communication Channels HCS/320 August 8, 2011 Kimberly Foster Communication Channels Health care providers and other companies are constantly seeking ways to improve their methods of sharing information among each other. In this search, there is a need for more consistency and accuracy throughout the system. In the health care setting many believe that “electronic records are thought to be the best way” (Curry, 2011). The goals that these health care providers hope to accomplish are “recording the information instantly incorporating all the information from a large number of providers and using the entire body of information for making decisions about one’s healthcare.” In this paper, the different communication channels in both health care and other business settings will be discussed. We will also look at why effective communication is so important and offer some ideas at improving communication. Hospital Setting In the hospital setting some communication channels are: • Face-to-face • telephone • zone phone • pagers • overhead paging system • intercom • walkie talkies • vocera • computer • whiteboards • poster boards Communication takes place every day among every member of the health care team in a hospital setting.  It takes place between doctors, nurses, therapists, paramedics, housekeepers, maintenance workers, and even the volunteers.  The method in which the communication takes places can come in...

Communication Channel

...Communication Channels Communication Channels Communication channels are very important, and it is also beneficial to understand that the channels have different strengths and weaknesses. Communication can be split into two different parts, which consist of the message itself along with the content it contains, and the use of channel to submit the information. The channels of communication could consist of but are not limited to, an e-mail, a letter, or speaking with someone in person. It is not uncommon for communication to go wrong because someone chose the wrong channel, or the inappropriate content. Most of the time communication errors create short-term problems that if not corrected or given the proper acknowledgement can become long-term problems. In the health care field communication channels are used on many levels, and are not limited just to one particular type of facility. Communication Channels in Organizations Many uses of communication channels in a hospital need to function properly to provide efficient quality services. Steve Kelsey describes how communication is important in health care with “Effective access and communication, particularly the movement of...

Communication Channel Paper

...Communication channels In my organization, communication channels are not be used at this time. We are a new clinic going into our 11th month of operation. Communication is poor and is really affecting productivity and morale. Workers are applying for new jobs and resigning with less than one year of operation. The lack of communiction and the flow of information has been interrupted, because our Leaders were not trained formally to lead an organization. All of our leader have never been in charge. They have only worked for an organization and had no knowlede of what it takes to keep the internal instructure of an organization together. When we first started in Febuary 2011 a small snow storm hit San Antonio, Tx and our communication channels were tested. The leaders and staff members had no phone numbers to call in Emergencies or disasters. Some of our staff members came to work and others did not, because communication was not established at the start of hiring. Leaders and staff members never set down together and discussed Emergency and Disaster plans. There are many communication channels that need to be established in every workplace. Lack of clarity, and communication must be sent in multi-directional and multichanneled. Meaning emails, phone calls, face-to-face, and rehearsals. Miscommuincation leads to mistakes, money loss, and could lead to harm of workers. The next paragaraph will discuss some things a leader needs to establish to improve...

Communication Channel

...Communication Channel Scenario MANAGEMENT September- Wednesday 5th, 2011 : Communication Channel Scenario Selecting the proper communication channel is crucial for the best understanding of the message. Because of this error sometimes communication becomes not understandable and also not effective. Sometimes channels differ in their capacity of transmitting pieces of information that is why it is so important to select the right channel. In the First Scenario the best communication channel would be a face-to-face conversation for explaining to the team the details of the product and the strategies to be used to place the new beverage in the global market. We need to gather planning ideas, information from the product and the market. I would also use a face- to- face conversation to explain the strategies to the Vice President of Operations because this channel transmits most information and immediate feedback In my point of view in Scenario II the best choice is a telephone conversation because the IT department is offsite and I have to let them know fast about the expired username and password, even though I think is better if they contact me by e-mail because they need to provide a new username and password, so they need to write it down rather than say them by phone. If I have to tell my employees I will forward the email from the IT department. They can handle it easier than giving them the information by any other means like orally or a bulletin...

Hcs/320 Communication Opinion Paper

...Communication Opinion Paper The ability to communicate effectively is essential to any instructor. Communication skills must be developed, they do not occur automatically. This stems from experience. Any instructor or healthcare provider must understand the process that is involved in communication and become aware of common barriers to effective communication. ( Effective-Communication, 2010). The basic elements of communication take place when one person transmits ideas or feelings to another person or group of people. The process of effective communication is composed of three elements which the first, the source (sender, speaker, and transmitter or instructor), second is the symbols used in composing and transmitting the message (words, or signs), and third the receiver (listener, reader, or student). The key to effective communication is shared understanding of the information. In addition, to effective communication this involves to understanding the information. It involves sharing understanding of feeling, thoughts, wants and needs. When we communicate to others we need stop and think about when, where, why, and with whom you communicate. Communication is the key to creating provider-patient partnerships. The basic elements of effective communication differ from basic rules of health care communication. Yes, to achieve interpersonal communication it must be clear. The health care industry supports the collaborative communication efforts between doctors...

Netw 320 Week 3

...NETW 320 Week 3 Assignment The purpose of this week’s assignment is to discuss what a SIP trunk is, why you would use a SIP trunk, the equipment required for its use, and any RFCs that discuss SIP trunking. After compiling some research I have concluded that SIP trunking is a direct connection between your organization and an Internet service provider. It enables you to extend voice over IP telephony beyond your organization’s firewall without the need for an IP-PSTN gateway. This simpler configuration is easier and less expensive to design, operate, maintain, and upgrade. And because ITSPs deliver services at substantial savings, your investment in SIP trunking can give a quick and substantial return on investment (Microsoft). There are several advantages to utilizing a SIP trunk to include the following: save money on long distance service, eliminate IP-PSTN gateways, eliminate a redundant network, eliminate BRI and PRI subscription fees, and extend the capabilities of Office Communications Server with new services from ITSPs. A SIP trunk can be deployed over the Internet or over a line that is dedicated to your organization and that may or may not share bandwidth with other IP traffic. A dedicated line such as a T1 line between your organization and the ITSP usually costs the most, but it can typically carry the most simultaneous calls and offers the highest security and reliability. If your organization has lower call volumes or less stringent security and...
