...Thomas Money Revenue, Cost Concepts, and Market Structure Proposal ECO/561 October 8, 2011 Professor Alfred Igbodipe Thomas Money Service Inc. (TMS) has been in business since 1940. TMS started out as a consumer finance company granting small loans for household needs. The company expanded over the next five years by issuing business loans, business acquisition financing, and commercial real estate loans. In 1946 management made a decision to expand into equipment financing. This proved very lucrative for the company. With the end of World War II, society experienced increased demand for construction and forestry equipment. In 1951, the equipment financing subsidiary, Future Growth Inc. (FGI) purchased an equipment manufacturing company, which vertically integrated the subsidiaries operations. Over the next 67 years the company increased revenues and profits. Unfortunately, with the recent downturn in the American economy coupled with several natural disasters, FGI has for the first time experienced a decline in profits and was forced to lay off one-third of its workforce. Although residential home sales have dropped the health care industry is still experiencing healthy demand. The purpose of this paper is to provide recommendations to TMS for increasing revenue, achieving ideal production levels, determining how fixed and variable costs should be adjusted to maximize products and finally to identify methods to reduce costs. Since the economic decline...

Motivational Method Paper

...Tamika Downs HCS 325 April 2, 2012 Joan Ralph Webber I believe motivational is a great tool for building an organization. It is one for one of the most important uplifting aspect of an organization. People are motivated by a wide variety of actions and behaviors. The basis for motivational methods all have the objective of meeting the needs of the individual (employees) in such a way as to influence and promote positive or improved performance to meet the organization’s goals. Managers must use a variety of techniques and tools to motivate others. Managers must provide an environment that fosters trust, respect, and empowerment of the individual (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007). The most influential motivating theories to me are Abraham Maslow, Frederick Herzberg, and David Mc Clelland. The theories could help anyone building an organization. Abraham Maslow theory human needs provide an important foundation for management thinking. Maslow’s theory advises managers to recognize that blocked or deprived needs may negatively influence work attitudes and behaviors. (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007) Fredrick Herzberg theory has a two-way factor. Herzberg advisee’s managers to give proper attention to the satisfier factors. David McClelland theory is based on individual needs. He stresses that managers are encouraged to recognize the strength of each need in them and in other people (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007). As a manager in my organization...

...Learning Team Reflection Week 4 How does the development of a contract administration plan affect a company’s business? A contract administration plan is critical to the success of a company that relies on complex contracts to conduct operations. A contract by definition is a binding agreement between two or more parties. The parties may be individuals, business entities, or a governmental entity. Before a contract is drawn up negotiations occur where one party offers a product or service under precise terms for a set fee. Most contracts cover a specific time frame. The bigger and more complex the product or service, the more a contract administration plan is necessary. The plan keeps detailed notes on milestones, deadlines, and the submission of any deliverables. The ultimate goal of a contract administration plan is to provide company’s involved in the contact agreements with maximum profit with minimal risk. The development of a contract administration plan affects a company’s business because it helps companies manage projects, original documents, costs, deadlines, and spending. Proper contract management “saves time and money when change orders are requested or claims or prepared.” (Cross,2012). The information found regarding preparing a contract administration plan, states that the company has the ability to focus on the major contract outputs and best practices. It is the road map to ensure that the company receives all that is stated in the contract from the...

Motivational Method

...Motivational Methods HCS 325 December 9, 2013 The motivation an employee has can sometimes be the difference between company success and failure. As a manager in the healthcare field one of the keys to motivating employees starts with motivating oneself. Emotions can be contagious if you hate your job other will pick up on that and may hate their jobs as well. Even if a manger is too stressed out others around him might become that way too. As good motivation for employees enthusiasm is a good quality to have and a trait that is healthy to pass along. If as a manager you show your employees that you really have a motivating sprit to take care of your company’s image they will adopt this feeling and it can go a long way in improving the company. So what are good ways to try and motivate employees? Well, a manger has to think about his/her own motivations and most likely the employees will have similar feelings. For example: what is important to people? Family? Recognition? On the job training? Compensation? One of the motivational methods that can be installed is for each manager to personally get to know each of his/her employees to see what their goals are. Where do they want to be in a year? What do they hope to accomplish? Is there anything the organization can do to support this individual in their goals? When employees see that there is a personal interest taken in them it helps the employee feel like this just isn’t an 8 hour job to them and they are...

Motivational Paper

...Motivation Concept Analysis Daryl Guy Psy 320 September 8, 2014 Valerie Murphy Motivational Concept Analysis Motivation is one major principle that we as humans live by every single days of our lives. Without motivation our lives as we know of today, would not exist. Imagine a world where everyone has no drive to do things for the better, it would not be such a great world, if no one in the world were motivated to do any research or even to just eat and get a meal from day to day. Motivation is a reason or reasons an individual acts or behaves in certain particular way. One theory of motivation is that of, Sigmund Freud, which states, “believed that all behavior was motivated and that the purpose of behavior was to serve the satisfaction of needs” (Understanding Motivation and Emotion, Fifth Edition, 2009). Therefore, what Sigmund Freud is ultimately stating is that as humans we have a certain needs that must be fulfilled and that all our behaviors are motivated to fulfill the certain need. Sigmund Freud’s theory about motivation seems to be a more relatable theory, for example, if I was hungry and I needed to fulfill my need for sustenance, I will then be motivated enough to get up and fulfill my need of nourishments. “Freud (1915) summarized his drive theory with four components—source, impetus, aim, and object—as depicted in Figure 2.1. The source of drive was rooted in the body’s physiology—in a bodily deficit (e.g., lack of food). Once it...

Week 4 Philosophy Paper

...A Week Four Paper PHL/443 December, 16th, 2013 A Week Four Paper The questions posed this week were very interesting, assigning rights to machines and determining criteria’s if machines are conscious or thinking. Assigning rights to humans is one thing and even that has been debatable for hundreds of years, but now the conversation has transitions if we could how would we give machines rights. I think that anything that has rights needs to be able to think for themselves, to form opinions, and be active contributors in their rights. Machines are not thinking or capable of having or experiencing conscious experiences, which I feel, would allow them to have rights. Rights are a form of freedom and how do we give freedom to an object that we program, we give information to, and we can turn on and off at will. If and when the reality of The Jetson’s comes to life and I have a robotic maid that actively interacts dependently with my family and I throughout the day then I would have to consider transferring rights to him or her. As every other week in this course, week four has been very informative and mind bending for me specially the discussion questions with regards to the rights of intelligent machines, I believe for one to have rights one must be conscious and poses free will, and if in future intelligent machines become conscious then they do not need rights but regulating. The other topic which I found interesting was “what type of criteria may be established...

Motivational Method Paper

...Motivational Method Paper HCS/325 September 29, 2014 Lisa Jones Motivational can be define as strength inside and outside individual, which explains the path, level and determination of attempts that are used in a workplace. It is extremely important that a manger knows how to motivate and encourage their employees to function well. Whatever the employee considers to value it will be one of employees most inspiration attempts. Talking openly about positive solutions to situations that arise within the workplace can help to turn a negative atmosphere into a positive one where all workers are encouraged to talk about what is important to them (Graham & Weiner, 1996). I will discuss a few motivational methods that can be used as a manager and how the organization will be affected by the change. The first method would be providing opportunities for employee’s learning and development. Striving to make ways for employees to continually enhance their knowledge and develop new abilities at all times is always a plus. Job relocations help with continuing education, and on the job preparation classes are learning environment to promote. It is important for an organization to promote internally within the company. When it is suitable and devotes the time and effort in helping educate employees so they can seize new advancement. With advancement many managers fear that by providing different levels of training the employee may leave them and take the experience to a...
