One day, he’s going to know. He’ll know your birthday, your middle name, where you were born, your star sign, and your parent’s names. He’ll know how old you were when you learnt to ride a bike, how your grandparents passed away, how many pets you had, and how much you hated going to school. He’ll know your eye colour, your scars, your freckles, your laugh lines and your birth marks. He’ll know your favourite book, movie, candy, food, and pair of shoes, colour, and song. He’s going to know why you’re awake at 5 am most nights, where you were when you realized you’d lost a good friend. He’s going to know your phobias, your dreams, your fears, your wishes, and your worries. He’s going to know about your first heartbreak, your dream wedding, and your problems with your parents. He’ll know your strengths, weaknesses, laziness, energy, and your mixed emotions. He’s going to know about your love for mayonnaise, your dream of being famous when you were five, your need to quote any film you know all the way through, and your fear of growing older. He’ll know your bad habits, your mannerisms, your stroppy pout, your facial expressions, and your laugh like it’s his favourite song. The way you chew, drink, walk, sleep, fidget and kiss. He’s going to know that you’ve already picked out wedding flowers, baby names, and tiles for the bathroom, bridesmaid dresses, and the colour of your bedroom walls. He’s going to know, get annoyed at and then accept that you leave clothes everywhere, take twenty minutes to order a Starbucks, have to organize your DVD’s alphabetically, and check your horoscope… just in case. He’ll know your McDonald’s order, how many sugars to put in your tea, how many scoops of ice cream you want, and that you need your sandwiches cut into triangles. He’s going to know how you feel without you telling him, that you need a wee from a look on your face, and that you’re crying without shedding tears. He’s going to know all of it. Everything. You, from top to bottom and inside out. From learning, from sharing, from listening, from watching. He’s going to know every single thing there is to know, and you know what else? He is still going to love you.

Sometimes Our View of People Changed When We Know New Information About He

...When I was in China, there was a Japanese colleague named Satoshi in our company. He is 1.80 m high, good-looking, less than 30 years old, but looks a bit old. We seldom talked with him because he rarely laughed and we gave him a nickname "what things" (a homonym of his name in Chinese). Because I worked on the same floor with him, I met him often. He always looked lonely and unhappy. Maybe because he was lonely, he often worked overtime. He never went out with us or walked with any colleagues. We thought he deserves the loneliness because he left his hometown and came to work in China. But one day, there was an incident that changed my view on "what things". It was at noon, I was going out to eat with colleagues and we met him in the elevator. Because it was lunch time, the elevator was overcrowded as usual. When the elevator stopped at the main floor, there were a lot of people waiting outside to go up. As we hurried out of the door, I saw “what things” was standing by the door with his finger pressing on the button. When all the people went out, he still remained the same posture. I thought he was going to the garage downstairs but then I discovered that the elevator was ready to rise. I was so curious that I looked what in the end he wanted to do. “Does he forget something; ready to return to the office? What an idiot.” I talked to myself. I saw that he waited until the last person went into the elevator. Then, "what things" loosed his finger and dragged out of the...

Socrates

...the future of Athenian society; the youth will be making the decisions later on down the road after all of the elders die off. This is the reason why the citizens are very concerned about Socrates. The elders believe that Socrates is going to be the reason why the youth will be corrupted. But Socrates does not see how he could be the reason for the corruption of the youth because he always claims to not have any knowledge of anything. In Plato’s The Euthyphro, Socrates has a conversation with Euthyphro about what piety and impiety is. Socrates wanted Euthyphro to be his teacher and teach him everything he knows because he claims that he knows all there is to be known about what piety and impiety is. Therefore, Euthyphro teaches him everything that he knows about what it means to be pious and impious. After he starts to explain everything to him Socrates is not satisfied with any of his definitions that he has proposed to him, so Socrates starts to question him even more, and ask for a better definition. This back and forth conversation goes on for a while, and from Socrates questioning Euthyphro so much, Euthyphro himself starts to question everything that he knows about what it means to be pious and impious. Euthyphro was going to prosecute his very own father for unintentionally killed Euthyphro’s slave that killed one of his father’s slaves. After Socrates questioned him so many different times about what it means to be pious impious it seems that Euthyphro has come to the...

Assess the Concept of God

...the Supreme Being, he has a quantity of divine attributes such as: omniscience, omnipotence, Omni-benevolence, supreme goodness, eternal, self-sufficient, perfect, and everlasting, transcendence and immanence. In this essay, I will be looking at God's omnipotence, through the Stone Paradox, his omniscience, through the Free Will Paradox and Gods 'omniscience and immutability' and showing how they are not comprehensible. Firstly, The Paradox of the Stone tests God's omnipotence. The dilemma is that either God can create a stone which He cannot lift, or He cannot create a stone which He cannot lift. If God can create a stone which He cannot lift, then He is not omnipotent (as He cannot lift the Stone). If God cannot create a stone which He cannot lift, then He is not omnipotent (since He cannot create the stone). Consequently, either way God is not omnipotent as there is something He cannot do. The first objection to the Stone Paradox is from George Mavrodes. He argues that the paradox is logically impossible. The claim that someone, x, can make something too heavy for x to lift is not generally self-contradictory. However, it becomes self-contradictory when x is omnipotent. An omnipotent being that cannot lift a stone is logically impossible because it is self-contradictory and describes nothing. Hence, there is no possible power for an omnipotent being to create a stone they cannot lift. So if God is omnipotent, and cannot create or lift a stone then He doesn't lack any possible...

Socrates

...man who knows about the heavens and earth and therefore any one who believe this must not believe in the gods. Socrates was accused of being an atheist. Most of the people that followed him around his quest were inquisitive. Where as most adults would walk by Socrates with his “annoying question” the youth stopped to see what he had to say. The youth became his followers when he went out to ask questions that undermined society. Therefore, Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth. I do not believe that Socrates was guilty. For the fact that he was not responsible for the way, other people used what he said. Socrates is the seeker of self-knowledge. He poses the question, “how can I know about the world if I do not know who I’m”. Then the society says, “know thyself”. These two sayings sound alike but society has something else in mind, know thyself means that you must know your place in society. Socrates wanted people to find out who they were by themselves and not let society tell them who they were. You have to know how you think and act in certain situation to know yourself. Knowing yourself in a sense helps you in fact know the world. Socrates might have believed it takes time to know yourself rather than just saying you know who you are. Therefore, Socrates went out to find an answer to the question “What is X?” Socrates asks the question what is piety to man named Euthyphro. Socrates is looking for the universal meaning of what piety is. Euthyphro thought he knew the...

Memento Assignment

...and so on. The real chronological order would be to first see all the black/white scenes in the movie in the order we see in the movie. Afterwards we would see scene 7, then scene 6 and so on until we have seen the last scene, the scene the movie started with. Because of this structure of the movie you need to follow closely or you need to know before you watch the movie how it works or else it can be very confusing. It also demands from the viewer that he/she notices the little things that happens for example when we see Sammy Jenkins at the institution and when someone walks by and suddenly it is Lenny sitting in the chair. As a viewer you also need to know when we deal with flashbacks and when we just jumped one scene back. Through the story we kind of experience how it feels to suffer from short-term memory loss like Lenny. Because we don’t know what has happened earlier we only know what Lenny has told us and what we can see on Lenny’s pictures just like Lenny. So we don’t know any more than Lenny do, we don’t know how many John G.’s he has killed or if Teddy is the one that raped and killed his wife all we know is what Lenny knows. Lenny Lenny’s disorder definitely creates a problem for Lenny, his identity...

Philosophy Platos Cave

...Allegory of the Cave, the cave represents people who perceive knowledge as something that is seen and heard and that is really what it is not about. These people, in a sense, would be the chained people in the cave. This shows us that people in this cave are in a world of misunderstanding. There are people that live their lives in the dark, which means, they live in just that cave and not know that there is something beyond the cave. They lack the truth because they live in such comfortable lives and that the shadows is all they are known to see. The artifacts that they see that casts these shadows are out of their sight and do not see that these are the real 'truths.' They think that its everything in their lives and try to make sense of these shadows in the best form they can. Then, all of the people play the game of knowing what they know about these shadows. The ones that guess them right and know these shadows very well are the ones that know everything there is to know about these shadows they know about. It is an illusion of what they think is real. They even start to respect the one that knows the most about these shadows that are the 'truths' to them. These artifacts represent the form of Good that they are able to see, and think the shadows are that sort of the form of Good that they see and believe in. Then, Plato supposes that these shadows are not supposed to be named. The form of Good can be perhaps something that only your mind can grasp. This is the belief that these...

Philosophy - Admission of Ignorance

...disturbance, gentleman, even if you think I am boasting, for the story I shall tell does not originate with me, but I will refer you to a trustworthy source. I shall call upon the god of Delphi as witness to the existence and nature of my wisdom, if it be such. You know Chaerephon; he was my friend from youth, and a friend of most you, as he shared your exile and your return. You surely know the kind of man he was, how impulsive in any course of action. He went to Delphi at one time and ventured to ask the oracle – as I say, gentlemen, do not create a disturbance – he asked if any man was wiser than I, and the Pythian replied that no one was wiser. Chaerephon is dead, but his brother, will testify to you about this.” (Plato 25-26) Socrates recounts to the men of Athens how he took this news with great puzzlement. “What can the god mean? And what is the interpretation of this riddle? What can the oracle mean when he says that I am the wisest of men?” Socrates knew the oracle could not lie, and yet he thought that he had no particular wisdom or specialized knowledge at all So Socrates set out on a quest with two goals in mind: 1) To disprove the oracle by finding at least one person in Athens wiser than he. 2) To figure out the riddle of the oracle, since its meaning was probably hidden. In order to test the oracle, or to prove it wrong, Socrates sought out and questioned Athenian men who were...
