Being organized wasn't my strongest point, but I implemented a time management system that really helped my organization skills.
I like to make sure that my work is perfect, so I tend to perhaps spend a little too much time checking it. However, I've come to a good balance by setting up a system to ensure everything is done correctly the first time.
I used to wait until the last minute to set appointments for the coming week, but I realized that scheduling in advance makes much more sense. 3. What is your greatest strength?

Why Headstart Works

...Gratefully, psychology has evolved since the early to middle 1900’s. At that time, according to the American Psychological Association, researchers believed that people who lived in poverty were inherently less intelligent than those who were wealthier. By the early 1960’s, this thinking had begun to change as revolutionary new-age psychologists like J. McVicker Hunt and Benjamin Bloom offered the notion that cognitive abilities could be affected, even altered, by one’s surroundings. Researchers began studying this theory, supporting that cognitive abilities could be altered by intervening early and attending especially to the physical and psychological development. Thanks to President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965, at-risk children were afforded opportunities not previously available and, more often, not affordable to their families. With this, a planning committee, including several aspects of development: physical and mental health, early education, social work, and developmental psychology, designed a program intended to give poor children the same benefit as their wealthier counterparts when they started kindergarten (where available) or the first grade. The federal program that was later named Head Start was created; its goal was primarily to end generational poverty. This program was a radical overhaul of traditional schooling. The developmental psychologists, Urie Bronfenbrenner and Edward Zigler served on this committee. This is important because a key component of what...

...convince them to use Lifebuoy Handwash for their families. These mothers had kids aged between 4-12 years and were using competitive brands. When it came to protection she was clear that her family deserved the best and was not willing to compromise on it. While this ensured she used the best that there was, it also left an opportunity for us to get a toehold in. If we could convince her that we were better, then she would be open to using Lifebuoy as her purchase criteria was not led by brand as much as it was led by efficacy and the capability to provide the best protection. Thus, the marketing challenge for Lifebuoy was to make up for lost time and grow rapidly in the liquid handwash market despite its imagery and the significant headstart that the competitor...

Personal Narrative: My First Day At Great Beginnings

...“Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise” (Proverbs 19:20, NIV). Advice comes in many forms; it arises from various sources. In order to be a world changer, I have to listen to the needs and wisdom of others. By listening, I will gain insight. I have the opportunity to learn from my preceptor, Amy Eberle, the women who are pregnant, and the members of the coalition groups. I did not have many expectations going into my first day at Great Beginnings. I thought that I would be seeing many mothers giving birth and seeing newborns. I visited a new mom, handed out a new initiative at doctors’ offices, and attended several meetings. The Grant County Child & Health Coalition meeting and the Early...

...January 16, 2009 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing you on behalf of our Headstart Program. As you may not be aware, our program is primarily a federally funded organization. We get the majority of our funding from the Department of Health and Human Services in the form of a grant. With this grant we are able to provide services in fourteen migrant and seasonal head start centers. As a grant requirement we must meet a twenty percent matching requirement (In-kind), which is extremely tough to meet in the rural areas that we operate. We are now nearing the end of our 2008-2009 season and are asking for donations in order to reach our required match. A donation can be in the form of many things such as, cash, office supplies, curriculum approved education supplies, supplies to maintain our centers, hygiene supplies, etc. If you would like to donate to our program please contact Susie Smith at (208) 453-1111. She will be able to supply you with a receipt and can provide you with any other information you may need. If our program is unable to meet the required amount of In-kind, it could have a huge impact on our children, families and communities. Our funding would be cut back and therefore result in a reduction in services to our families. In our rural communities it is extremely important that we all stick together. It would be very detrimental if we were unable to provide services to so many families that desperately need it. Any help you can provide...

What Is History

...1 Liam Davidson 220131049 HINQ100 Question 1 Having considered E.H Carr’s chapter on ‘The Historian and His Facts’, and Arthur Marwick's discussion of 'Historical Facts and Historical Sources', as well as some of the other resources provided, what are some of the issues facing historians in the use of historical evidence? Question 2 Think of an historical event, person or theme that is of interest to you. Find at least one primary source, and one secondary source of relevance to your topic. Describe your search for these materials and what you learnt from the exercise. 2 Question 1 Historians inevitably encounter some issues when using historical evidence. From finding sources and discerning fact from fiction to interpreting sources and placing them in historical context, the historian’s search for adequate sources is often not a simple one and can be fraught with pitfalls and issues that the historian must overcome. The choice of topic is an immediate issue facing an historian. The possibilities are endless as any part of history is an option for research. Issues when choosing a topic a both professional and personal, will there be sufficient sources on the chosen topic and where can they be located? Is the topic relevant? Evidence Based Practice Reflection

...Reflective Practice – Part A Originally reflective practice was commonly used to deal with well documented problems in professional practice. However the use of reflective practice has made a shift to also be used in main stream educational practice. (Bradury et al. 2009) This then makes it credible to use reflective practice to assess my progress so far at university. I will do this by sing Driscoll model of reflection (by Barton) model of reflection that I undertook in class. Using Driscoll ‘What?’ ‘So what?’ Now what? A Modest Proposal

...I really enjoyed reading "Where there's a will, there's a way". It really made me think about what the article was trying to say. The article was written by Anna Harrington, she talked about the importance of good mental health at work. In so many words, I felt like this was preaching or talking to me. I am going to share with you some of the key points that stuck out to me. Working as a Pre-K teaching assistant at an elementary school can be tough. One it can be very emotionally draining, with the standards and all. We have to answer to the State, the School District, the Pre-K office as well as the Porter-Leath Headstart program. Next, my point that stuck out to me was being "Spiritual". I could not make it without the Lord on...

Creative Play Research Paper

...Structured play teaches them teamwork, dedication, and tecahes other good habits. These are also great qualities to instill in your child. When they are in programs such as sports, their hard work pays off in a way that many people can see. This gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment, and many of these activities will reflect on them later. Sports can get a student into college, and other structured activities give them headstarts in the career of their choice. Too much of any good thing is a bad thing. And every child is different, they each need to be treated differently for them to thrive. I was never in any sports or group teams, because I was never in one place for very long. But up to this day one of my favorite things to do is read. I was also taught how to make jewelry, and that progressed into learning how to work with clay and wire. But I also perfer to work alone, and have issues conveying my message to other people in speach. Guns Germs And Steel Analysis

...Jared Diamond had a question that was asked to him by Yali, a New Guinean native, “Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo?” he had a hard time giving him an answer but after twenty-five years he finally had an answer to it. The reason is Indo-Europeans became so much more accessible to their resources unlike the New Guineans. The people of New Guinea were set aside from the world with many people not bothering with what the have as opposed to was Indo-Europeans have. Indigenous 100 Course Reflection

...When addressing my personal journey through this Indigenous 100 course I see it as long but insightful regarding my country around me. In a way my emotions throughout the course are very helpful to gaining new knowledge. At first I found myself in the denial stage of all these “supposed” wrongs with Canada and Indigenous peoples, but quickly moved into the realization stage of what happened in Canada. Finally the third stage of acceptance and moving forward to discover new insights and learnings on how to move this country as a whole. Personally I believe the most important insight I have taken from this course is the idea of white privilege in Canada and how, one the white people of Canada are given a headstart and two how the Government of Canada is extremely driven on a white privilege system. Which is a major problem considering Canada’s claim for being one of the most diverse Countries in the world. Navigating struggles with course content for the most part was easy after the first couple classes, mainly getting through the denial stage and learning to accept the history. It is always a...

Early Home-Assisted Literacy Analysis

...held for parents. There was a second meeting after about six weeks of training. One pretest and three posttests were conducted to measure children’s phonemic awareness, letter knowledge and naming speed. The three posttests include one short-term gain test immediately after the intervention (Kindergarten 2) and two follow-up tests in Grade 1 and Grade 2. Results indicated that the children in the TAR group made higher gains on letter knowledge during the second term in Kindergarten 2 than those in the NAR group. In addition, they also succeeded to keep up with the normal development of phonemic awareness in the NAR group. The children in the NTAR group developed much lower rate in both pre-literacy skills during this period. However, the headstart of the trained group did not affect beneficially first and second grade reading and spelling. When they start the training at school in the grade 1, the trained children could not be discriminated from untrained ones, and they were delayed relatively to the not-at-risk children. The authors suggest both home- and school-based training should be delivery in order to prevent undoing the advantage of early intervention. This paper discusses a home-based intervention for pre-school children with the risk of dyslexia. It provides preliminary results to suggest the relative short-term learning gains by using this specific program. It is worth noting that tracing exercises are also incorporated in the training program. Instead of solely relying...

Two neighbors make a wager on who will be the first to have a lush lawn. Mr. Fast N. She finishes several days after her neighbor, who asks if she would like to concede defeat. After all, he does have some blades of grass poking up already. Penta Personal Statement

...Penta Career Center has changed my overall perception of school, and I am very eager to share how. Penta is a vocational school located in Perrysburg Ohio, that offers programs ranging from cosmetology to welding. Popular programs include automotive technology, masonry, culinary arts, dental assisting, early childhood education, floral design, public safety, and small animal care. And these are just few of the many programs here at Penta. Oak Harbor is my home school, and I came to Penta my junior year to attend Medical Technologies. I plan to return to Penta for my senior year as well! I chose to come to Penta because I wanted to get a headstart in the medical field. I knew that being in Medical Technologies would help me pursue my future career of becoming a licensed dermatologist. One of the things I enjoy here at Penta, is that we operate on block schedule. Block scheduling gives me a good idea of what college will be like. Penta also gives me the opportunity to participate and compete in student organizations, such as HOSA and SkillsUSA. HOSA is an organization dedicated to educating future healthcare professionals. The web defines SkillsUSA as “.. a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel.
