HEALTH CARE CAN BE HEALTHY
Discrimination, the economy and the health care are all topical issues on everyone lips these days. However, since the health care system has a significant effect on us whether we are the consumer - the patient or the producer- the health service provider; and especially this topic has been buzzing in the air lately, I will offer solutions as how to address the unhealthy issue of our health care system..
It would be remiss of me not highlight, that to generate solutions, the cause of problems must be carefully identified, analyzed and prioritized. The problems are many and compounded. Likewise, the solutions to better the health care system are varied and complex. Nonetheless health care is of paramount importance not only because the health care costs take a heavy chunk of the USA Gross Domestic Product and no other costs measure closely to this. Solutions will include several committed and patient stakeholders at the helm; and some element of risk to effect the change and transition.
Firstly, a recommendation is a need to make health insurance affordable and accessible to all. There are too many horror stories of people perishing because of lack or limited health insurance. Already the current government is making a transition to reform the health care system provide the public with affordable insurance. A debatable move, but health care should be a public good and the onus should be on any government to invest and commit to healthcare. It works for other economies such as Canada and England. Therefore should I strongly endorse the move of the any health care reform. No doubt the task will be challenging but like any system, with time and commitment the transformation will come.
To undertake this deliberate move, robust investment is needed by the government. One aspect the government can undertake is to apply greater tax to luxury...

Oregon has made remarkable progress when it comes to health care access for local children through the Oregon healthy kids program, which is a feed off program from the Oregon health plan (OHP). The Oregon health authority with the help of Frist Governor Kulongoski then Governor Kitzhaber, Oregonians have made sure that kids in our state have full access to the health care they need when they need it. However, over the next few years the Oregon health authority’s next step along with Governor Kitzhaber is to not only work into the Affordable care Act, but to expand our Medicaid program, to extend health care access to cover everyone below 133% of the federal poverty line (Kliff,......

Community Health

...Community Health Paper C228/VWT Task 1 By: Ericka Barrera November 20, 2015 A.) Identification of Community Depending on how you drive around, LA County can look very different in various parts of the community. As California’s largest county, with 10,116,705 people in the county, it is not hard to imagine that there are vast differences in even a localized area (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000-2013). With Hispanics making up almost half the population, the remaining Whites, Asians and African Americans, as well as other cultures, lend to a very diverse community. You can be in a very affluent area and drive only a few short miles and be now surrounded by run-down buildings, homeless people on the streets and poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Because of this, our community has many different health concerns that will be addressed in this paper. B.) Assessment of Needs and Risks B1. Healthy People 2020

...#1 Access to Health Care: Improving overall health status Equality in Access to health services is one of the forty two topic areas in Healthy People 2020 that caught my view as one of the objectives to have the highest importance in achieving a national goal of healthy Americans in the future. But what does access to health care actually means? According Gulliford et al (2002), facilitating access to health is concerned with helping people to command appropriate health care resources in order to preserve or improve their health status but unfortunately gaining access to healthcare depends on some factors such as financial, organizational and social or cultural barriers that permits or limit the said utilization of services. Therefore having much available health services is not a factor in itself to improve the quality of healthcare but the utilization of such services by all of the people which will depend on affordability and general accessibility of the service. According to Healthy People 2020 (US Department of Health and Human Services, 2012), it is important to have access to quality health care service in order to achieve equity in health and eventually improve the general health status of all Americans. This I think is one of the most important move that the state should make in order to make the vision of having healthy Americans, including all migrants, ethnic and minority groups, by the year 2020. Though free service is not always the key to have access......

Healthy People 2020

...PLANNING BETTER HEALTH FOR THE FUTURE Margaret Carriger Grand Canyon University Trends and Issues in Health Care HLT-418v Georgeana Lass Drew, Instructor July 12, 2014 In 2010, Healthy People 2020 was started by the Department of Human Health Services. Health programs and research topics were instituted to help Americans live healthier and longer lives (CDC, 2014). The 42 topics presented are all very important in maintaining the goals set by Healthy People 2020. If these programs were to be cut or budget restraints imposed on them, the impact would be felt by all Americans. There would be more unhealthy people, preventable chronic diseases would be more prevalent, and education and health associated programs would be affected. In reading the 42 topics, and after much consideration, I chose the 10 most important that I felt would be impacted. 1. Access to Health Services- The need for accessible health care is vital for the success of health equality and for expanding the well-being of a healthier life for Americans. 2. Cancer- Research and advancements in cancer treatment have seen a decrease in both occurrence and morbidity. Healthy People 2020 advocate the development in cancer research to assess the advances made in decreasing cancer in the United States. 3. Diabetes- One of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the United States. More than 57 million Americans have a high glucose reading or levels that can increase the chances of Diabetes Mellitus...

...for health care services? The health status of every individual is relative to environmental and heredity factors. In general, the average individual doesn’t have control over their genetic makeup; however, there behavioral lifestyle is and it influences their overall quality of life. Environmental factors are things that an individual can always alter to improve their health. For example, changes in their diet, physical maintenance, and stress. The decisions from the initial case deal with treatment; further along there is areas of discipline, education, responsibility, and adopted healthy lifestyles. With this in mind, the wrong decision will equally influence health care supply and demand significantly. For example, the increasing rate of diabetes in the country is a result of either decision. Type 1 diabetes is a hereditary form of the virus caused from the digestive system not processing insulin. However, type 2 diabetes is caused by environment influences which cause the pancreas to insufficiently produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by obesity. In fact, I researched this information before for a previous class and its been proven that 95% of all diabetes infected individuals have type 2 diabetes. The overall number of individuals with diabetes make up 30% of the U.S. population. The number of individuals with the disease began to spike in the mid 1990’s and the demographic equally expands from young children to older adults. Financially, the health......

Implications of Health Economics in the Healthcare System

...Implications of Health Economics in the Healthcare System Perry Davis Health Policy and Economics– MMHA- 6135-4 Dr. Miriam Ross November 06, 2011 People in the world today view health in many different ways, especially when sometimes it is hard to distinguish what is being healthy and unhealthy. Many do not enjoy the visit to the doctor office, but know it is a mandatory treatment for the well being of a person. Being healthy has many different ways of being defined, but can be a difficult way to be explained. According to the article, healthy is “considered all the things that can be wrong with you even while you say you are healthy” (Zuger, 2008). My definition is when your spiritual, social, physical, or mental being is not constant. Anything that is being altered in your daily routine differently is considered unhealthy. You can be diagnosed with anything and you still can be just fine, it is certainly cane be caused as a mind thing. What determines a person health depends on the person themselves and the world can play a significant part in it. When trying to understand how health economics plays a part in today’s America, first health economics can be classified as a branch of economics as it relates to the healthcare system by efficiency and effectiveness (Teitelbaum & Wilensky, 2007). It is to understand how economists can view problems in health care by being a good health policy analyst and by making all the right decisions. The value of health......
