Health Care Communication Methods

My name is Tsering Wangmo and I work as an administrator at my local nursing home called “Serene Senior Living”. I absolutely love my job and feel truly blessed to work at a place where I feel both gratified as well as fulfilled. It truly feels good going home at the end of my shift knowing that I did something that day that was meaningful. It really gives me so much joy to be working for the wise and peaceful elderly residents, and although I can indeed go on and on about how much I love my wonderful job, at the moment we are facing an unfortunate situation.

A large national group called “Goliath Bank” has just bought our nursing home, thus having control over all things that are administrative as well as clinical matters. This change did not come as a big surprise to me because I comprehended that “Serene Senior Living” was having some financial problems since the beginning of last year, and although I even predicted that a big company such as “Goliath Bank” might eventually step in, I am still saddened and disappointed by the fact that the changes that are being implemented by the bank are not very beneficial to the elderly residents.

While I recognize that: conflicts represent inevitable part of organizational everyday life in healthcare structures (Todorova, 2010), since the instance the bank has implemented the new policies, most of the residents are facing really tough times at the moment. The Finance department of the nursing home had to cut costs, which decreased the consistent annual budget by 50%. Within weeks of the bank’s control, we lost a number of clinical staffs including: Medical Assistants, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, and even some Housekeeping crew. Budgets for the resident activities, medications, nursing supplies, and other services also fell enormously.
