Health Care Information - Definition of Terms

...Introduction: There are a lot of abbreviations used in the United States health care delivery systems. A list of some of these abbreviations that are used by physician’s offices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other ambulatory care services are listed in this paper. 1. AMR - The definition of an Automated Medical Record, otherwise known as an electronic medical record, has been set forth by the 2003 IOM Patient Safety Report as the: • "collection of electronic health information for and about persons" • "provision of knowledge and decision-support systems [for] support for efficient processes for health care delivery" • "electronic access to person-and population-level information by authorized users" ("Definition Of Automated Medical Record", 2012).  2. Sociological Perspectives

...Unit: 7 Sociological perspectives in Health and Social Care P2 In this assignment I will be defining the different concepts of health& ill health and how theorists relate their theories to health. I will also assess the biomedical and socio-medical models of health. There are many definitions of health; many sociologists have a difficulty in finding a definition for the word health. Health can be defined in negative terms, as ‘the absence of disease’. According to http://www.who.int/about/definition/en/print.html this is contrasted with a positive definition such as the provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) IN 1974: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. A negative concept of health is therefore opposed to a positive concept of health as being worried with people’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional wellbeing. According tohttp://www.who.int/about/en/ The World Health Organisation is an organisation which directs and coordinates authorities for health in the United Kingdom. It is responsible for global health matters and shapes the health research agenda, setting norms, standards and providing support in countries. In the health and social care settings, health care professionals usually implement a holistic approach to care and support for people. They see their role as addressing the needs of the whole person rather than single matters or identified problems. A person with...

Health Care Economics

...Health Care Economics 1 Term Comparison Paper Bernadette Cynthia Gibson July 28, 2014 HCS/552 Nancy Jennings Health Care Economics 2 Term Comparison Paper Demand, Economics and Supply Demand This paper will be discussing the definitions of demands, economics and supply and what how they play a role in health care. The definition of Demand: “The amount of a particular economic good or service that a consumer or group of consumers will want to purchase at a given price. The demand curve is usually downward sloping, since consumers will want to buy more as price decreases. Demands for a good or service are determined by many different factors other than price, such as the price of substitute goods and complementary goods. In extreme cases, demand may be completely unrelated to price, or nearly infinite at a given price. Along with supply, demand is one of the two key determinants of the market price.” When it comes to demands in health care, we can look at scheduling. Patients will need to make an appointment to be seen, and scheduling can be done the same day or in the future depending on what the visit is for. If there is a high demand of patients and the supply is not there then patients will be scheduled on the Backlog Reduction Plan. These are schedules for the future with the intent to keep the workload down. Example: can another physician see a patient and how can the person be treated without having to come back. Health...

...■ The Elements of Successful Marketing Marketing Research Within the definition of marketing is the discussion of a process of planning and executing to meet consumer needs. Marketing requires an understanding of consumer wants and needs. This understanding is derived through an assessment of these needs. Within this book, Chapter 5 focuses on marketing research. Marketing research is a process in which there is a systematic gathering of data from customers to identify their needs. The Four Ps The heart of marketing strategy is the development of a response to the marketplace. As noted in the definition, marketing is the “execution of the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of the goods, ideas, and services.” To respond to customers, an organization must develop a product, determine the price customers are willing to pay, identify what place is most convenient for customers to purchase the product or access the service, and finally, promote the product to customers to let them know it is available. Product, price, place, and promotion are referred to as the four Ps of marketing strategy.3 It is these four controllable variables that a firm uses to define its marketing strategy. The mix of these four controllable variables that a business uses to pursue a desired level of sales is referred to as the marketing mix. The definitions of the four major elements of marketing as discussed below provide the focus of this book. Product Product represents...

The Rural Population

...Health Status of the Rural Population Access to health care in this country has been problematic for many years, especially for populations considered vulnerable. The rural communities are a susceptible population because of their lack of medical resources, distance from facilities, economic condition, lifestyle behaviors and presence of chronic conditions (Rural Assistance Center, 2015). For the community nurse to influence the rural populations health status, we need to assess the current health trends, identify methods to promote health and prevent disease, examine the impact of economic and political systems on the population and advocate for healthcare policy changes that can positively affect change in the community. Evolution of Health Care Information Systems Since 1960s

...Discussion Health IT Adoption Introducing change in health care is never easy, i.e, the Obama Healthcare, (universal healthcare system) budget and implementation. By year 2014, the government will oversee that all Americans should receive healthcare regardless of pre-existing conditions, but that also means longer lines and longer services. Even with the change of technologies, I am sure there is significant doubt and opposition. So it comes as no surprise that in the face of changes of the adoption of health IT adoption – even though it carries the promise of improving the nation’s health care – some hospitals and providers will want to push back. Why should we care? The American people should care because they deserve better health care than they are currently receiving, and they need it delivered more efficiently. Health IT Adoption Plan is part of our economic recovery plan. Every provider, every patient throughout our nation will benefit from the goals envisioned by Health IT Adoption. Yes, this will be a challenge.  While large hospital networks and smaller providers may be stretched to meet national health IT goals, it is not beyond their capacity for growth. There are incentive programs that will encourage and provide reimbursement to providers who have achieved meaningful use. This will also providing patients with improved quality and safety, more efficient care and save more lives and reduce redundant procedures which will save revenue...
