As I look back over this course and its contents reflecting upon what I have learned. I will be reflecting on two concepts: one is that health and disease are connected by certain factors. One fact is that stress can contribute to heart disease and weight gain. Stress allows fat cells to accumulate on the abdomen of females, increasing cortisol making it easier for increase appetite. If stress continues for a period of time stress exposes the body to elevated levels of stress hormones which can have an effect on the way our blood clots increasing the risk of heart attacks. Staying healthy is promoted by being stress free which will help the body when it comes to diseases. It is important to learn how to maintain certain stress factors. This has enabled me to determine why my weight fluctuates so much and the increased body fat around my stomach has increased. Two is that behavior changes and or modifications are necessary for health improvements. …show more content…
In fact when I was first diagnosed with Diabetes I was in complete denial until I was hospitalized for 4 days unresponsive and near death. I had to make some behavior changes and food modifications in order to function. My behavior had to change concerning taking my medication and checking my blood levels quite frequently once I mastered my behavior change, I was able to feel much better. Then I had to learn to modify my diet and consumption of foods. This was the hardest part for me because the foods I use to eat were no longer suitable for my situation. I had to research food items and read food labels and learn the sugar content of each food item. This task was done over a period of time for me it took two years and I am still learning new ways to eat certain
