1. Question : (TCO 4) Your hospital has just been told that all of your cardiovascular surgeons are transferring their practice to a competitive hospital beginning next year. How would this affect a forecast of volume?

Student Answer: First and foremost, if a hospital is suddenly lost all of its cardiovascular surgeons...heads will roll. However, if there are a major lost of service such as the cardiovascular surgeon...there will be a decrease in the volume due to the lost of services. Thus when the hospital have a reduce in the total volume it will also have a reduce in total cost. If the hospital is operating under statistics budget...in the long run, through the development or discontinuation of certain programs volume may be changed, most healthcare firms implicitly assume while developing their statistics budget that they cannot affect their overall volume during the next budgetary period. Junk Food and Its Impact on Health

...Its Impact on Health Pamela Gambrell DeVry University Junk Food and Its Impact on Health Michael was a man in his 30’s when I first met him. He had everything to live for: a beautiful wife and two gorgeous children. He was also morbidly obese and had a multitude of health problems. His biggest health problem? He had diabetes mellitus and was very noncompliant with his diet. He often came into the hospital with blood glucose levels way over 600. The last time Michael came into the hospital his blood sugar was over 1200 and he was in a diabetic coma from which he never recovered. Michael could have lived a much longer life had he chosen to eat healthier and refrain from junk food. Michael’s story is just one of many that happen every day. In a country such as ours this should not be the norm. Junk food is a major industry in this country. It is much easier and often, less expensive for someone to obtain and consume junk food then it is to create healthy meals. The ramifications of junk food consumption are not widely known and these ramifications are beginning at an earlier age. Therefore, education needs to begin early in life and children should be able to have healthy food selections in schools. As an experienced registered nurse, I have seen many health problems that begin with obesity. These include heart disease, metabolic diseases, high blood pressure, stroke, cavities, and even some forms of cancer. The best way to avoid the majority of these health problems is...

Health Promotion in Diabees

...R T H E R N T E R R I T O R Y D E PA R T M E N T O F H E A LT H Health Promotion Strategic Framework 2011 - 2015 www.healthynt.nt.gov.au NT Department of Health Health Promotion Strategic Framework 2011 - 2015 Background This framework provides a structure for describing the type of health promotion actions that are used across the Northern Territory. It enables a shared understanding of the actions that can be taken to improve health and wellbeing. It also provides guidance about embedding a health promotion approach into all planning processes, programs and service development across the NT. While this framework is intended to be used within the health sector, we strongly encourage other sectors and agencies outside of the health domain to use the framework. This framework should be used in conjunction with health promotion audit tools and other health promotion resources available in the NT, such as the Public Health Bush Books and the Quality Improvement Program Planning System (QIPPS). It is also designed to be used as a guide, together with other local, regional and national frameworks, policies, strategies and resources. Why Health Promotion? The World Health Organisation (WHO) acknowledges the growing evidence that health promotion and preventive health approaches are effective in improving overall health and wellbeing, reducing the burden of chronic disease and injury, addressing health inequities, facilitating the better use of resources and enhancing economic...

Ipremier

...The iPremier Company: Denial of Service Attack 1. In your opinion, how well did iPremier perform during the 75 minute attack? It is clear that iPremier was not prepared for any sort of cyber attack, and their subpar performance during the 75 minutes was a clear representation of their operational deficiencies, lack of preparedness, and lack of leadership. This led to a complete disregard of any formal procedures and caused many involved to fall for common psychological traps. On page 281, Applegate lists four key emotional obstacles that must be overcome during an incident: 1) Emotional responses, including confusion, denial, fear, and panic, 2) Wishful thinking and groupthink, 3) Political maneuvering, diving for cover, and ducking responsibility, and 4) Leaping to conclusions and blindness to evidence that contradicts current beliefs. From the very beginning of the incident, there was confusion and panic with the people involved. However, amongst the panic, everyone did a decent job of prioritizing the safety of the customer’s information. Without a formal plan, it obviously took longer to diagnose the problem and to determine solutions, but Bob Turley did a good job of keeping everyone focused on the customers. However, he did not offer much support to Joanne Ripley, the one person who was actively trying to identify and fix the problem. For example, Turley didn’t even acknowledge the issue with Qdata when Ripley brought it to his attention during their first conversation...
