Health Studies Group Presentation Reflective Essay

Description
We were placed into groups and tasked with planning a presentation on our given lifespan age group which was Adolescents. The presentation was to choose a health issue that we felt was relevant to our age group and then promote that health issue taking into account who it was aimed towards. My group consisted of myself, Charlene, Connie and Sue. We spent some time during class to plan and prepare and then had time outside of college to get together and discuss our presentation. We then had a morning on the day of presentations to finalise our plans.

Feelings
My initial feelings were of worry, stress and pressure over the amount of time we were allocated during class to prepare. Initially our group was made up of five people to include Louise. However, she left the course shortly after we were set the assignment and this added to my feelings of worry as to whether our presentation would be of a good standard. We didn’t have much class time to prepare as most of my group have outside commitments such as children to think about and prioritise I was concerned we wouldn’t be able to spend much time preparing and that this would affect the quality of our presentation. I had a few concerns over working with a certain group member as she had been involved in an altercation involving race and I didn’t want this issue to affect me directly.

Evaluation
The good points of my presentation were the fact that we were able to get on well and were able to knuckle down and really plan when we were together in class. I felt our age group was quite easy to get along with as a lot of current and real health promotions are aimed at this age group and there is a wealth of information already out there to guide us and help with ideas for our presentations. My group were able to easily agree with one another with no

Mental Health Case Study

...Case study Daniel Seavey Phoenix University Josh is a 27 year-old male who recently moved back in with his parents after his fiancée was killed by a drunk driver 3 months ago. His fiancée, a beautiful young woman he’d been dating for the past 4 years, was walking across a busy intersection to meet him for lunch one day. He still vividly remembers the horrific scene as the drunk driver ran the red light, plowing down his fiancée right before his eyes. He raced to her side, embracing her crumpled, bloody body as she died in his arms in the middle of the crosswalk. No matter how hard he tries to forget, he frequently finds himself reliving the entire incident as if it was happening all over. Josh has been plagued with nightmares about the accident almost every night. He had to quit his job because his office was located in the building right next to where he was meeting his fiancée for lunch the day she died. The few times he attempted to return to work were unbearable for him. He has since avoided that entire area of town. Normally an outgoing, fun-loving guy, Josh has become increasingly withdrawn, “jumpy”, and irritable since his fiancé’s death. He’s stopped working out, playing his guitar, or playing basketball with his friends – all activities he once really enjoyed. Josh suffers from Post traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) Josh would be better suited with secondary care and Psychotherapy to help talk about the issues he faces and help him find better ways to cope with...

Health Insurance Case Study

...Increasing health plan premium costs are a growing burden for the employers who choose to provide health insurance coverage to employees. For small business owners operating on limited budgets, these increases are even more significant. The passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) creates additional responsibilities for employers regarding the minimum requirements and pricing of insurance plans for employees. Employers make difficult decisions to determine how to continue to provide health insurance at a fair and reasonable price, without harming the small business. The case study by Spencer (2014) examines the options of small business owners, John and Liza, faced with a 25% increase in health insurance rates. Once it is determined that the increase is due to the age and health status of several employees, the owner must decide whether to penalize certain employees with increased contributions, or have all workers absorb the added costs equally. In addition, there is concern that hiring a potential new employee, Robert, will increase insurance rates even further due to the pre-existing health condition of his spouse. It is challenging to select an option that has a fair and balanced impact on the company and its employees. While financially it is easiest for the company to have each employee absorb the cost of the premium increase, this is not a fair option if premium increases for all are due to the lifestyle factors of a small representation. There is an increased risk of...

Health Disparities: A Case Study

...When looking into health disparities of health between minority and non-minority groups the most obvious place would be to look at the person but there is a case to be made that it stems from social policies that were implement in past generations that has perpetuated the cycle of health disparities (Smith, 2003). Through the extraverted practices discussed in the documentary there was obvious discrimination when it came to purchasing a home in the 1930’s and 1940’s during the start of the housing boom where more individuals were owning homes than ever (Smith, 2003). The there has been a trickle down effect from this lack of home ownership, due to the aforementioned discrimination, by minorities in America that has led to lack of accessible public facilities for physical activity and recreation (Gordon, Nelson, Page, & Popkin, 2006)....

Converse Health System - Case Study Analysis

...From your reading of the case describe the issue(s) or problem(s) which should be the focus of your case analysis. 1. Lack of reasonable and logical financial result: Ignore fixed and variable cost, ignore case mix and thus transfer pricing of $7,906 might not be reliable and accurate which is shown in Exhibit 4. 2. High transfer price of 14% (($1,204-$1,059)/($1,059) x 100%) increases lead to goal incongruence (Exhibit 6): Under the full charge method of transfer pricing, the St. Luke Hospital would charge the HMO $1204 (Case Mix B), the same as for other third party payers. The hospital operation managers would benefit from $1,204,000 in increased revenues as beds are filled by the HMO patient, but the HMO manager would be foolish to accept St Luke Hospital rate when his/her performance appraisal is based on profit. Thus, the corporation (Mansfield Memorial Hospital and Lakeview Medical Centre) may stand to lose the improved occupancy and increase revenue to its hospital from its HMO due to the incongruence in objectives. 3. Bonus incentives: - Two way communication lacking between managers regarding the bonus system. - Budgeting linked to bonus system profiting (inaccurate results has affected transfer prices. - The Chief Financial Officer is reactive to the problems faced by the bonus system. 4. Internal Management: - Lack of accountability and responsibility over profit & expense centers - Lack of control measurement and adequate human resource...
