Healthy vs. Happy Happy with being healthy, or happy with just being plain happy by not wasting your time eating healthier and exercising to be happy. I never imagined that I would be exercising ten minutes a day, and have to cut my portion sizes. Two kids later, I never thought that I would be taking courses at Ashford. Of course you can eat what you want, but what about your body susceptible to illness, like high blood pressure or diabetes. You should be able to find a happy medium between being the two. In this essay I will be talking about how you can be healthy and happy at the same time, and they intertwine creating the happy medium. There is an alarming trend with people seeking out these losing weight quick schemes in order to find a happy medium within themselves. People result in using these fads advertised on TV and in magazines to take the easy way out, or when they are unsuccessful in losing weight the right way. As we mature we find the medium between being healthy, and being happy. For example, getting enough sleep, eating healthier, and exercising, because when you think about it, healthy and happy balance each other out. When you get the recommended amount of sleep every night, which is healthy for you, and when you wake up in the morning you feel energized, happy. A regular exercise program is associated with positive mental health, especially a reduction in stress, depression, anxiety (Mayo Clinic, 2009p) and an increase in happiness. We all want to be healthy and happy in life and sometimes you don’t know how to. So I think it’s up to you to find out what makes you healthy and happy. And you have to decide are you happy with being healthy, or just happy not wasting time eating right, and doing what you want do.

Healthy vs. Happy

...Healthy Vs. Happy As a personal fitness trainer and a woman that has dealt with obesity and depression, I will explain from real life experience the relationship between health and happiness. I will also give examples of research proving how being healthy will help sustain cognitive ability as we grow older, providing a happier more fulfilling life. I was once 225 pounds, my ideal weight is 140 pounds. I would eat anything I wanted, and suffered mentally from my life style choices. I had bouts of depression and was ashamed of how I looked, making my self-esteem plummet. I suffered from headaches which made me very irritable. Than one day something happened that would change my life forever. As I was driving to work one morning, I blacked out. When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a town I did not know, and I had no recollection of driving there. I went to the doctor and was told my blood sugar had dropped very low. After doing some tests he told me I suffered from hypoglycemia; a condition where sugar levels are abnormally low. This is why I was having mood swings, headaches, and blackouts. The doctor told me to I needed eat a healthy diet and lose weight or in time I would end up with diabetes. Research has proven weight has an enormous effect on health by impacting everything from heart disease and stroke to mental issues like anxiety and depression (Witt & Mossler, 2010). Once I was able to take control of my eating habits some wonderful side...

Attitude is the very gist of an individual's way of thinking; it is an individual's ideals, his concepts of right and wrong, and all his/her aspirations. In a nutshell, attitude can be defined as the totality of the individual himself. Man is, I'd say, what his attitude is. His thinking, his views, his likes, and dislikes are all enveloped in the single word i.e. 'attitude'. The next point for us to understand that we discover how these attitudes grow in an individual, are they inborn or are they a later growth in man's life. To this question, the answer is that, yes, some aspects of an individual's attitude are inborn, inherited and taken in due to his/her circumstances. This is because what an individual grows with, has got to have an influence on his life's pattern and his personal thinking, which account for his attitude. However, as he grows, and comes out of his shell out of his very personal circumstances, and develops his own attitudes to several things. Though at this stage of his being a grown up person, some changes may occur according to the needs of the...

Health vs Happy

...Health VS Happiness Picture this: you are hungry, busy, and don’t really feel like cooking or cleaning. So you dash to the nearest fast food joint and order a fat, juicy burger with some fries and a soda to wash it down. Once in a while this may be okay, but if you find yourself taking this easy way out more than once a week, there may be consequences. The American Heart Association states that diets high in salt, cholesterol, sugar and fat can take away from other essential nutrient levels. This may lead to heart problems or obesity. Practicing little or no physical activity can lead to further health complications. Is it a waste of time to watch what you eat or how you exercise? Maybe not. Skipping those fast food meals and substituting with a sandwich made at home or packing leftovers for lunch takes no more time than pulling into the drive through. Getting up and walking around your office a few minutes each day is better than sitting at your desk all day. If you do choose tha fast food route, park your car and go inside to order. If you think life is too short to care about what you eat, think again. You may, in fact, be shortening your life by taking shortcuts. If you are a smoker, that makes it much shorter. Some people may feel that they are happier if they can eat what they want when they want it. But is being overweight, fatigued and lazy being happy? For me, it is not. I am not the perfect picture of health, but I do feel that being healthy is being happy. I...

Nursing Burnout

...January 2016 Leadership and Management Executive Summary Nursing burnout is serious and in order to ensure that nurses are taken care of, the administration must implement incentives and policies that will provide nurses with the resources to maintain a healthy work life balance. Burnout accounts for many of the medication errors and patient injuries in healthcare facilities. Most nurses are overwhelmed because of the caseload and longer workdays necessary to complete charting. Many nurses are also disgruntled because of denied vacation requests that cannot be approved because of non-coverage. Research has shown that when employees are happy then there are less errors and injuries in the workplace. It’s ironic that nurses care for patients but they don’t feel as though the healthcare facility cares for them. Many things can be done to boost employee morale which in turn will increase the quality of care that the patients receive. Adequate coverage needs to be address and using temporary staffing is a way to fill chronic vacant positions so that float RN’s are available for PTO requests. Insurance credits and consumer discounts can be used as incentives for those employees that practice healthy living activities. Staff meetings held during work hours, discussion boxes, timeout rooms, and partnerships with massage clinics are all changes that can provide stress relief for nurses. These changes are not too costly for the facility, and in the end, will result...

Mcdonalds Evaluation

...Current Strategy Evaluation Current Strategy McDonald’s current strategy of “being better, not just bigger” involves delivering locally-relevant restaurant experiences, improving existing restaurants, and create new products that meet the changing needs of its customers. This strategy works towards increasing sales and guests counts while optimizing operations to increase profitability. Much of McDonald’s strategy involves promoting new and classic menu items such as the Big Mac, McCafé and Snack Wraps while delivering the best food experience possible. The company also feels that it can grow sales with maintaining and expanding its dollar menu so that more affordable items are available. Furthermore, the company provides locally preferred menu items so that it doesn’t alienate itself from its communities (example: Restaurants in Hawaii offer pineapple instead of fries). Combined with convenient locations, optimized drive through service and longer store hours these factors should provide exceptional restaurant experiences. The company has also allocated $2.1B towards restaurant improvements for 2009 to modernize its operations. These funds are also to help continue its specialty coffee and beverage expansion. This investment is done with the expectation of serving more customers at a faster pace (including drive-thru) as well as being able to provide its new McCafé drinks and future specialty drinks. These improvements should add to customer experience and improve...

Fixing the Healthcare Plan

...Travis Hicks Benefits Administration Fixing the Health Care Plan Health care is an asset that is vital for everyone to have in today’s society. Not having health coverage could bring financial drain or ruin to someone who has become ill. Let alone, if you want insurance later, you may not be able to get coverage due to past and current health situations. Also, you may have to pay a higher premium even if you were approved for coverage due to those past and present conditions. Statistically, you are at a higher risk of dying when you do not possess health coverage. With that being said, Wolfman’s employees understand the importance of the health coverage that they possess through their employer. It is important that I help the employer takes the appropriate steps to ensure that the employees will accept the newly designed insurance program and approve of its initiatives. The biggest area of focus is to provide Wolfman’s with a more affordable health care premium while ensuring that the employees will retain an adequate amount of health care coverage. After observing the current plan that is in place, it looks as if Wolfman’s currently uses a fee-for-service method of coverage. It is common that once a deductible is met, the fee-for-service plan will pay a percentage of the bill, usually %80 percent, and you will pay for the other %20 percent. Under a fee-for-service method, doctors and hospitals will get paid for each service that they perform. There are no limitations...

Either way, a significant amount of people in this day and age have the desire to lose weight. Some people prefer the old fashion method of dieting and exercising and others, cosmetic surgery. Weight loss trends have transcended time from diet and exercise to cosmetic surgery. Despite any method of losing weight, diet and exercise remains most effective. Dieting Dieting according to (Encyclopedia Britannica 2013) is, “regulating one’s food intake for the purpose of improving one’s physical condition, especially for the purpose of reducing obesity, or what is conceived to be excess body fat. Time has revealed that image and other health factors are important. Dieting is now commonly promoted as a healthier way of losing weight. Personally, I am astonished that dieting has a lucrative selling market. For years, diets have been displayed as ineffective, unappealing, and unappetizing and torture. Dieting is not all about starving yourself to lose weight. Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia defines dieting as: the practice of eating food in a regulated fashion to decrease, maintain or increase body weight. ...
