...There are many parts to a human heart. Each structure of the heart has a different function and a different location. The hearts size is the about the size of a human fist. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and brings it to the lungs to get oxygenated and then pumps it into the various arteries. The heart is in a fluid filled cavity called the pericardial cavity. The walls and the lining of the heart are membranes which are called pericardium. Its function is to lubricate the heart and to prevent friction between the heart and the other organs of the human body. It has two layers, a visceral layer that covers the outside of the heart and a parietal layer that creates a sac on the outside of the pericardial cavity. The heart wall has three layers. The first outer layer is called the Epicardium. It is the thin layer that helps lubricate and protect the outside of the heart. The muscular middle layer of the heart is called the Myocardium.
