Find the value of each of the following Boolean expressions if the values of the Boolean variables w, x, y, and z are 1, 1, 0, and 0, respectively. xy + x y x y xy (xy) ̅ x ̅ y ̅ x ̅y ̅ (xy) ̅+x ̅y ̅
1 0 0 1 0 1 0 1
Solution: 1

2a
Let w, x, and y be Boolean variables where the value of x is 1. For each of the following Boolean expressions, determine, if possible, the value of the expression. If you cannot determine the value of the expression, then find the number of assignments of values for w and y that will result in the value 1 for the expression.
a) x + xy + w x = 1 then x+xy+w = 1+1y+w = 1+(1y+w)
1+z = 1 for every Boolean value z then: if we take z = 1y+w
1+(1y+w) = 1
Solution: Yes is possible, x+xy+w = 1

4a
a) Find the fundamental conjunction made up from the variables w, x, y, z, or their complements, where the value of the conjunction is 1 precisely when
i) w _ x _ 0, y _ z _ 1. ii) w _ 0, x _ 1, y _ 1, z _ 0. iii) w _ 0, x _ y _ z _ 1. iv) w _ x _ y _ z _ 0.

...teller for a living. I was going to get married by the end of the year. It was a little early but John, my fiancée helped me organize our wedding and we went to so many places. We looked for cakes, the venue and decorations. As we were driving, we saw Mishra alone; no one was going to her. A lot people have been saying that her telling’s are true; a lot of her costumers got scared. I didn’t believe what the others were saying. I believed in what I believed in. I went up to Mishra. I wanted to give it a try and I wanted Mishra to feel that she was still getting costumers. Mishra had a different way of telling people their future. She used cards, not by hand or any other things. She would pick ten cards out of twenty and I would pick five out of the ten. Those five cards I picked would be telling my future. She laid out the cards one by one as she was laying them one by one, the first card was an Ace with a gun, second card was a king which had a baby on it, third card was a queen which has bad guys killing a woman, the fourth one was a jack which had a broken heart and the last one was a ten which had death. I was really shocked with the result but then again I didn’t believe it. I was really skeptical about a lot of things. As I left, Mishra ran to me because I left my phone. While I was driving I couldn’t stop thinking what Mishra showed me. I was feeling very nervous and I didn’t feel good. As soon as I got home I had a hot shower and went to bed. John wasn’t...

...I remembered to do this because of priming. My roommate asked me to help him with his calculus homework, then making me remember what I had to do. This self-observation did not help me remember my homework this time. Friday, February 6, 11 p.m. When trying to leave for dinner I could not find, or remember where my wallet was. After thinking about the last time I had it, I found in my pants I had worn the previous day. I forgot this because of absent-mindedness. When I changed the night before I was distracted by being tired and wanting to go to sleep. Because of that I forgot my wallet in the jeans I wore. I remembered where it was by re tracing the steps my night before and remembering the distinct times I knew I had my wallet. When looking for it I thought of this project hoping it would create priming and help me find a way for me to find my wallet. Saturday, February 7, 9 p.m. When given a list of things to do at work, I failed to remember all of them. I found that I only remembered the first and last task I was given to do. I failed to do this because of an encoding failure. When he began to tell me my tasks I focused on the first one and, did not hear what he said after. I was thinking about what I had to do for that task that I didn’t listen to the other tasks. I was unable to remember what else he said so I had to go ask him to repeat himself. I thought about this project in hopes that it would help me find a way to...

...stress, money, and making time for my family are my three biggest challenges that I personally face. Think about where you are at this point in time. How many challenges have you overcome? The biggest of my three greatest challenges that I face as a college student is stress. There is stress coming from every direction. It comes from places like class, work, home life, relationships, and unexpected setbacks. For me, I do not deal with stress well. There is so many ways to cope with stress, but some people are better at it than others. You just have to find that one thing that you can do to escape from reality for a little while. The reason why I put stress first on my list, is because all of my challenges are directed to stress. I have faced this challenge for a while now. It has seem to become a part of my daily routine. With that being said, I have learned to control it but not to completely erase it from my life. If you figure out how, let me know! One suggestion that I have come up with is putting yourself in a setting where nothing can cause more stress. For me, I like going in a quiet room and finding out interesting facts about random things. I look for silly little books, internet articles, and fun facts that have un-useful information. For example, who invented video games? Though this may not but useful academic wise, it is useful for my stress relief. This information provided for stress management was found in my essay for module three. It explains that there...

My Father

...My Father My father has been the most inspiring person in my life. He is the one person I can say has always been there for me. Anytime I have needed something or as I was growing up if I wanted something he would get it. He worked so hard to make sure I would be well taken care of. He has always been my biggest support and my best friend, but always kept me stable. If anything would happen to my father I would be devastated. When I was young my father worked forty plus hours a week. He had two jobs most of the time, but always made time to spend with me. We would hang out in his garage and I would make things out of wood and nails. He never had a boy to share the man stuff with, so since I was the one who was interested in these things I got to learn them. Which has been a great help through out my life because I there were times that I needed to fix things and no one else was around. So I now can fix just about anything. As I got older he would always make sure to put time aside for me. Since he was such a hard worker, I would miss him a lot. I would wait up for him as late as I could, just so I could spend time with him. Summer time was my favorite time to spend with him because I was able to stay up late and wait for him to get home from work. He would always take me night swimming when he got home. Even though he work a lot he was always making sure I had everything. He work so hard for our family and that is why I appreciated him so much more. He was also a...

Immunity to Change

...Immunity to Change: How to Overcome It and Unlock Potential in Yourself and Your Organization by Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey. One of the reasons it is difficult to make lasting change is because we have underlying assumptions that compete with our ability to fully realize our goals or commitments. Use the guidelines and criteria outlined in the article, The Real Reason People won’t Change, to complete this exercise. Column 1 – Using your 360 results, identify a commitment or goal for improvement. I am committed to… Column 2 – Identify your behaviors that are currently working against your first-column goal. Be honest with yourself and list as many specific behaviors as possible that keep your goal from being reached. If you need help with this, you can ask others for feedback, just be open to their honest responses. Column 3 – This column begins to reveal the immunity to change, the hidden agendas that hold us back from significant change. Ask yourself the following questions about your Column 2 entries: If I imagine myself trying to do the opposite of this, what would happen? What worries or fears come up? Translate the worries or fears you have identified into competing commitments. Once complete you should be able to connect the first and third columns and see how the competing commitment “cancels out” your first column commitment. Column 4 – The big assumption is a rule or belief about what will happen if we act in certain ways. Brainstorm all the possible assumptions...

The Cane

...The cane. Simply put the stigma of the cane alone can be a daunting prospect. Never mind the fact that I don’t have a disability. In all honesty (and ethics aside) I was afraid to use a cane in public because canes are an instant label. Does it make any sense at all that I would be more comfortable using crutches than I would a cane? No? Me either, but that’s the truth of it in a nutshell. Realistically, though perhaps not logically, crutches convey something temporary, an injury that will eventually heal. An injury that perhaps could even be conceivably derived from my athleticism gone awry, a sign of my wholeness on pause that would eventually return. A cane labels you as weaker than the rest, unhealthy even, takes you aside socially, mentally and physically from those that walk and live unassisted, strong, normally. I don’t like thinking that I am capable of snap judgments on the characters of others whom I have never met. I don’t like to think that I am capable of thinking so shallowly. In fact when I am in the presence of someone that is disabled I can’t help but want to help. I consider their apparatus to be a part of their personal space, an extension of their bodies and respect their needs which are usually no more than patience and space. I will always hold doors, reach something for those that can’t or be sure my children are respecting boundaries and be patient around those that need more time to complete tasks. Though, in the confines of my human body, I found...

Realizing This

...and for me all these fears boil down to the fear of failure- I don’t want to go through all this hardship and end up flat on my face. I even would go as far to say that most of my early life’s disillusionment stemmed from this fear. Rather than try I would just be critical of those who did. Taking my education and viewing it as a life enhancement will help me during the times of struggle towards my degree. Ultimately, whether or not this gets me a better paying job, the tools I learn here will help me in all the endeavors of my life. Taking this approach will impact the outlook when life wont work how I think it should based on what I’ve done. The question now is, understanding the challenges I face, how will I take responsibility of my success? As I’ve alluded to before, the first step is to transform the way I think. It will do me no good when the struggles arise if I look at college with resentment. I must see this as value added. For me, when things are a positive, it makes it easier to handle the bad that always come along with it. The follow through with this will be the pratical application of this mindset. Some of these would be to prioritize my time and make the most of it when I have it. In conclusion, I find that life is a summation of choices and whatever has happened in your life, you can choose how you respond to them. This ability to choose and choose wisely is my responsibility. I have been giving another chance to impact my life and those around me for the...

...valuable contribution. Speaking of my personal qualities, I believe that my greatest asset is my communication skills that help me to speak common language with people of most diverse backgrounds. I do hate inequality and prejudice and am ready to stand up for any person if I find that others are treating this individual with bias because of race, origin or other qualities related to background that a person has inherited at birth and cannot change. This determination to be fair to all usually wins me a lot of friends and, I hope, relying on my past experience, makes the group of people including me a safer place in terms of being free from prejudice and premature judgments. It is also true that I can organise people into groups of friends by suggesting different leisure-time activities like little outings that provide an incentive for people to get together and be nice to each other. In my view, the ability to hold a group together is a talent in itself as it strengthens social ties between people and can contribute to cohesion and friendliness on campus. My popularity also hinges on my kindness and compassion for other people and sensitivity to their feelings. I have been doing a lot of charity work lately, first volunteering at a day care center, then switching to a hospital to try a hand at my future career. Volunteering at places where people need help gives me a sense of belonging to humanity through meeting the needs of the sick and disadvantaged. It is not only through official...
