Ace Helpful Hands

...within the school that needed immediate attention. Once I identified the issues and problems that needed to be fixed, I immediately began to search for answers. I have been in and out of the D.O.E. headquarters seeking help. Unfortunately, there is not enough funding. We have also requested assistance from our adopted government agencies. Unfortunately for us, this means of support has come to a stalemate. The problems that currently exist in Aua Elementary School are just too overwhelming for us to repair in a timely manner without any financial assistance. We have tried fundraising, but unfortunately the money that we have raised so far is nowhere near enough to make the repairs needed. So when I heard of the ACE Helpful Hands Program, I knew for a fact that this is an opportunity that I absolutely cannot afford to let slip by. Here are the issues and problems that we critically need assistance with and why we need a new face: • We have a major shortage of chairs and tables. So many of our students have to sit on the floor while in school. It is estimated that we will need approximately 30 folding tables and 150 chairs to accommodate some of our students that have to sit on the floor during class. • There are also a good number of lights that do not work in the classrooms. It is important to have a reasonable amount of lighting when students read to avoid putting stress on their eyes, or making them burn or water after a......

Helpful Kids

...Helpful Kids PHL/458 Creative Minds and Critical Thinking Dr. Charles Osborne Getting the kids to help out around the house with the daily task of cleaning, laundry and doing the dishes was a nightmare. We would fight with them to the point that they would get grounded or even worse spanked. So one day my wife and I were sitting around the house talking about this and decided to true multiple different ways to get the kids involved, but without the hassle. After many attempts at all of those ways we came up with the “Hat Game”. This game proved to be a godsend and after five years we still do this every Sunday. As we were getting tired of all the uneccessary fighting and arguing with them to help us out, we slow down our yelling and showing frustration. We started to be very observant of them in what exactly made them do things without being told. As we watched we could see that they were very competitive kids. They always wanted to win at everything they did, especially between each other. We tried to figure out how to use this natural competiveness to our advantage and try to overcome this controversy. As we continued to define and evaluate the problem of the kids helping out with the chores, we failed lots of times. The kids would start fighting and then nothing would get done, except for me getting mad and just telling them to go to their rooms, leaving my wife and I to do all the cleaning. Some of the questions we asked each other were; how...

Helpful or Harmful?

...Helpful or Harmful? People are always looking for a better way to do things, a new and improved product, and exciting, unusual, and beneficial additions to their lives. The source of such finds often times come from outside the native culture in the form of a nonnative species, such as exotic animals, insects to control pests, or plants to improve health or diet. Looking outside one’s country for such answers brings forth new challenges for businesses and government agencies. In order to keep the environment safe and prospering, a government agency or business must consider how the invasive or non-indigenous species will react, adapt, or change in its new environment, what harm it can bring to humans such as health risks or destruction to an industry, and finally, if there will be any added benefits to introducing a new indigenous species to their country. These questions need to be researched before introducing such nonnative species into a new environment. Both accidental and intentional importation of nonnative species can have a negative effect on the environment especially if not properly researched. When nonnative species are unintentionally imported, great damage can be caused to the environment. For example, the balsam woolly adelgids were accidentally imported to the United States from Europe. The result can be seen in Source A. The Balsam Fir trees are completely stripped of needles and have the sickly appearance of a dead forest. When species are......

It has made a huge impact on the world for the better. Through technology, surgeries were able to be done. Technology also helped aid in the increase of jobs and communication purposes. Despite the positive effects of technology, there are also the negative aspects of as well. Many feel that technology cause more problems than solutions. Regardless of how many feel, technology has brought about improvements in the medical, educational, and communication field. Technology proved to be very helpful in the medical field. It has provided many surgeries to be accomplished. Through technology many are able to carry out surgical procedures. One example of technology being used in the medical field is virtual reality technology. This type of technology “provides surgeons with an environment that seems real but actually is not” (Burke & Weill, 2009). This type of technology allows surgeons to not only plan precisely but practice the operation without touching the patient. Other ways technology improves the medical field is by using tools that minimize the bleeding in during surgery. This results in shorter hospital stays and lower cost. These changes are costing us our healthy planet and safer world because of the serious effects it has on the climate and our lives. The causes of global warming can be reduced by taking action and altering our life styles in several ways. Taking action to help minimize global warming will have a huge impact on the amount of man-made air pollution that is produced. Natural Disasters and a Helpful Economy

...Natural Disasters and a Helpful Economy When we are devastated by a natural disaster, it can be unbearable. Some economies can handle it better than others. The best one when this happens is a socialist economy. In a socialist economy, the government essentially takes care of the people who live and work there. The government will compensate workers so those workers can tend to others in need as well. This is also why a socialist economy is best suited in responding to the needs of the people stuck by emergency situations, like the earthquake that occurred in Haiti. Socialism isn’t all about profits. Being not for profit organization means that everyone is doing what they need to and looking after the injured people’s best interests. The government would provide the poor with free healthcare. Free healthcare is essential for everyday illnesses but especially when a crisis occurs and injuries increase. They would also get direct financial assistance. Some people lost everything including all their money if kept in their homes. The government will help by giving these people money for essential every day needs. The government could also set up organizations, such as FEMA, to provide things like food, water, and shelter. The government may also have other organizations set up to provide clothing, child care, etc. Laws of Supply and Demand The laws of supply and demand are relatively simple. Demand is how much of a product is desired by consumers while supply is how much of......

Reality Television: Is It Helpful to Our Youth?

...Reality Television: Is it Helpful to Our Youth? Through decades of television, there has been a drastic change in the content shown on air. In past generations, family oriented television shows were expected to be shown around the clock. Shows that contained explicit content were not an option to be shown on television, but today there is not much of a filter that will not be shown on television. There are things shown on late night specials on cartoon channels that are not appropriate for anyone, let alone young children. Television programs have given children a false sense of what is expected in the real world and delays their chance to mature at a normal rate. Television stars are not helping to shape young minds, but instead they are making it difficult for children to learn what is right from what is wrong. This generation has a different view of what television should include, there should not be a limit on major issues; for example violence, sexuality, profanity, and drugs and alcohol. In past generations, those subjects were forbidden and were rarely even spoken about in the closest of friends groups. Now it is expected for it to be broadcast on television, in movies, and to be causally discussed in any scenario. Television and the media have given our generation the reigns to take control of what they think is inappropriate or appropriate. This now gives them the opportunity to talk about almost anything that could be thought of, there are no more......
