Teacher Interview
Mr. Henderson has been teaching for the past ten years, he has always loved working with children with disabilities. Although it is something new every day he does enjoy what he does for a living, it does get difficult at times. Although working with administration does get hard at times Mr. Henderson especially when it comes down to getting meeting dates for IEP meetings, means going through an entire list of different administration and consolers to be able to meet on a date that works. Mr. Henderson do believe that, due to the fact that being a teacher, requires constant meetings with parents, counselors and administration it is important that he plans his meetings months, and weeks in advance. Henderson work in an inclusive classroom which means that he does have students with minor learning disabilities, he does go through the IEP process with each and every student. When creating the IEP, Mr. Henderson will normally go through a series of steps which is considered the basic procedures into creating and the development of an IEP. First the testing will take place in every subject area were the relevance is necessary next therapists and other specialist in the area the child is disabled in will provide letters, all of this will come from people who are in normal contact with the child. There is an entire team that Mr. Henderson works with in order to properly monitor the child improvement or if the child is falling behind. Mr. Henderson also believes while this process is being done to have the parent as involved as possible, because the parent I involved in the process they will never feel as if they are not useful in the situation. In Mr. Henderson experience not always the parent will agree with the services that are being provide to the child, so the parents at time should be reminded that this is for the child good. Henderson started teaching, he felt as if it was a challenge for him to develop lesson plans and classroom activities with the student who has the IEP. Every student must be included in classroom activities. While work is being done he, would take notes done on the students behavior in class, is he or she is able to focus during this lesson, I the lesson to hard at times or it is just to many pages at times and just needs a reeducation in pages so that the student does not become frustrated with the work. ...Grand Theory Nursing theory is determined by a combination of ideas, explanations, relationships, and premise developed by nurses to describe nursing care and practices (Application Theory, 2012). Nursing theories provide knowledge and direction towards the guidelines of how to improve and perfect nursing care (Application Theory, 2012). There are three categories of nursing theories: grand theories, middle-range theories and situation-specific theories (Meleis, 2012). Grand theories focus on a wide range of “experiences, observations, insights, and research findings” (Meleis, 2012, p. 33). These theories are developed over many years of practice and study and are not subjected to empirical testing (Meleis, 2012). Was there an issue of being prejudged or stereotyped by others, including school faculty, based on the clothing one chose to wear? That was then, now remember how it felt. Times have changed and economic status plays such an important role in everyone’s lives, image how children of today feel. Social economics is a hard issue for adults to deal with and yet children are forced to deal with it on a daily basis in schools with their classmates, friends, and even their teachers. What solutions can be offered to change this bias for all children, regardless of age, race, and social status? One suggestion is to put school dress codes in place which would require school uniforms. Qualitative methods were used to gain data that reflect on the implementation of play and creative arts strategies and activities in teaching and the interpretation collected from participants.
