Hick Day

Hick Day A slight drizzle was falling from the sky as my huge knobby tires slingshot baseball size chunks of mud over twenty feet in the air. It was now October and the day I had been waiting for a long time had finally arrived; it was hick day. This is the one day out of the year I get to show my true colors to the school, because I am only one out of a handful of real hicks at Bob Jones High School. Now, because of my four past accidents that were all linked directly to mud riding, I had sworn to my parents that I would never put my Jeep Wrangler back in the mud. However, what would just one last time hurt? “This was it”, I told myself, “this is the final time I will go off-road in my Jeep and after this I will fully respect what my father and mother worked so hard to get me.” My near death wreck that almost took four of my friends lives and my life in the blink of an eye completely turned my life around, I now cherish and respect everything that I am granted. To begin with it was 7:30 in the morning and I had just finished making my rounds picking up all my friends for school. My buddy Caleb and I were in the front and we had been planning this day for months. He and I went all out dressing up for hick day. We both wore full camouflage attires from head to toe. I even had on my enormously thick camo hunting boots; they were so thick I could not even feel the gas or brake pedal through them. In the rear of my Jeep were three girls all crammed together in that tiny, two seater back bench, therefore, none of them bothered to put on their seatbelts. We were cruising at a steady 45 miles per hour heading to Research Park to go mudding and were partying all the way there. We had the subwoofers blasting and the music turned all the way up. It was so loud my mirrors looked as if I was in the middle of an earthquake. As we pulled into the cul-de-sac at Research Park I just kept thinking I cannot believe I am about to get my brand new, candy apple red paint job all muddy and scratched up. A split second later I slammed my Jeep into four wheel drive and popped the curb up into the mud. At that same moment a slight drizzle began falling from the overcast sky and that only made the mud thicker. We began sliding all around the mud covered, wide open pastures and then flew down the mud caked trails. As my massive knobby tires gripped the ground they ripped chunks of mud up and shot them like rooster tails over twenty feet into the air. Just a moment later the Jeep slammed into a four foot deep mud pit that sent nasty brown water up over the hood and completely engulfed my roof. At that moment a musty, moldy odor protruded through my air vents and gagged all of us. Then I looked down at my clock and realized the time was slipping away so I began heading for the exit. While heading down the rutted up embankment to leave, I pressed the brakes and suddenly lost control and began helplessly sliding down the hill, ramped off the curb and crashed onto the asphalt. However, nothing was wrong and we were now on the main road with twenty minutes left to get to school on time. In any case, we knew how bad traffic would be getting to school so Caleb suggested a short cut. I had never driven down Eastview Road and frankly I was kind of scared of all its rolling, twisting, and curvy hills, but on the other hand I did not want to be late. So I put my blinker on and off we went down Eastview. As we rounded the curves and went up and down the roller coaster like hills my stomach began to get that emptyless pit feeling. It was almost as if I was doing flips on a ride at Six Flags. We finally arrived at the stop sign overlooking campus; we were almost at our destination. Now all we had to do was maneuver down a huge curve on a hill that looked as if it was a dead drop off. My stomach began to churn as I rolled past the stop sign and headed down the hill. I tapped my brakes to just slowly coast down the hill, but all of the sudden I began sliding strait down at the Jeep’s mercy. I lost all traction on the asphalt and was hydroplaning strait off the road down a grassy knoll. Fear pulsed through my veins and as my adrenaline rush kicked in my seconds turned to minutes and I began trying everything in my power to regain control over my vehicle. I jerked my steering wheel left and then right, but it would not respond; I was heading on a straight line, crash course towards the driver’s side door of a minivan. Then all of the sudden I smacked into an object and came to a sudden dead stop. My ears erupted as I heard a monstrous bang from my massive tire exploding. A loud clang came from up under my seat as my transmission split into pieces and left a gaping hole where my gears were, and then at that same moment my driveshaft shot up through my center console tapping my elbow. I looked forward and through my windshield I saw my electric blue two foot shock flying through the air like a football being thrown from the hands of a pro quarterback. Within seconds everything began to clear up. I noticed smoke rising from the engine bay and smelled the unforgettable musk of burning oil. We scurried to get out of the vehicle before it exploded, but my friends struggled, because my passenger side door was lodged against some trees. I rushed to help them and jerked the door open as they scrambled out. From a distance I took a look at my Jeep and saw how my carelessness for what I owned cost me everything my family had worked so hard to give me. All in all I knew that there was no way I could undo my reckless actions so I walked over to the two ton bolder I had just smacked into and sat down. I began to contemplate all the mistakes I had ever made over my lifetime and what they finally lead to. I began to thank God for miraculously allowing no one to even have a scratch when we all could have been dead. After thinking for quite a while I shoved my hand into my pocket and clenched my phone. I began dialing my parents to tell them the news that my twenty thousand dollar Jeep Wrangler was totaled beyond any repair. That day I learned a valuable lesson that everyone needs to learn. You should always take care of everything you have and treat it with respect or it could almost cost you everything that you have.

Reflection

...It emphasises that it is important that you feel good; the more you feel good, the more you will attract things that make you feel good. This concept is very empowering and motivating. It makes me feel that I can take on the world once I have a positive attitude to life and the endless riches that are available for me. The law of attraction states that it is present in abundance for each person and this is good news for me; I want to manifest greatness in all I endeavour to pursue. In preparation for the gruelling five years ahead of me in medical sciences, I thought it imperative to rejuvenate my beliefs in this life changing “way of life”. I rummaged through my bookshelf looking for the book “Laws of attraction, by Esther and Jerry Hicks and downloaded “The Secret” online. I wanted to ensure that my mind and consciousness in my thought patterns would fully support me as I endeavour to achieve academic success and excellence. After all, I am only following through on the work I had already begun, attracting and manifesting greatness. However, it brings about an awareness of how I must be in tune with the nature of my thoughts as even a negative thought can also...

Is-Lm, Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply

...Part (A) IS-LM, Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply Behavioral Equations, Identities, Equilibrium Conditions and List of Exogenous and Endogenous Variable The IS-LM Model is based upon six Behavioral equations, each describing the determinants of one of the macroeconomic variable considered by the model: 1. Consumption 2. Investment 3. Government spending 4. Tax revenue 5. Money demand 6. Money supply The description of the IS-LM model is completed by three key identities that are defining the links between aggregate demand, aggregate supply and the equilibrium level of income. Aggregate demand: Z = C=I=G --------------------------------1 Since firms produce as many goods and services as demanded in the economy, the aggregate supply is written as: Y=Z --------------------------------2 Combination of the equation 1 and 2 gives income identity for a closed economy Y = C + I + G. This states that in equilibrium aggregate income must be equal to aggregate demand. Exogenous variables: G: Government spending T: Tax on income M: Money supply P: Price level (fixed in the short-run) Endogenous variables: Y: Production C: Consumption I: Investments R: Interest rate Behavior Equations Y= C + I + G C= C0 + Cyd Yd –Cr r I= I0 + Ir r G= G TA = TA + Ty Y LM Behavior Equation L=M L=L0 + LyY – Lr r M=M0/P Production Function Y= Aƒ (K,N) Identities of IS C= ƒ (Y+, r –) I = ƒ (r -) G=G S=...

Wife Always Right

The story behind the story is that was our oldest set of twins fourth birthday. You want to talk about a stage of mass confusion and chaos, but I will get to that a little bit later. Why is it that my wife is never wrong, I guess this story really began back in the fall of 1993, when I met my amazing bride to be. I knew right away that she was the one. In the first 2 years we never spent a night apart from each other. We got engaged on, Valentine’s day of the following year, and we got married in June of 1995. Through all the times, no matter if it was an argument or disagreement or even just a normal conversation she seemed never to be wrong, nothing pissed me off more. Time after time it seemed like I was never right and even if I was on the right track, she was still not wrong. So getting back to the story I would like to tell, we found out through an ultrasound eight weeks in to the pregnancy that she was going to be having twins. She told me on the way to the appointment that she believed that it was going to be twins, and again for the thousandth time told her “she was crazy”. She was once again was right, this was starting to get old with me. As they are doing the ultrasound and confirmed that there were at least two babies they kept searching despite my asking them to stop before I had a heart attack. On the way out...

Equality and Efficiency

...Rights, Freedom, Equality, and Efficiency Response A concept that is discussed in economics is Pareto Optimality. A Pareto optimal situation is a circumstance where a person cannot be made better off without making another person worse off. This means that resources have been allocated and distributed in a way that will result in efficiency. There would be no waste in a Pareto optimal situation. However, one could argue if Pareto optimal situations, while they are efficient, are also fair. The Pareto Optimality theory does not state anything about equality, and so the question of distribution arises. It is a fair Pareto optimal situation when two parties have equal amounts of a good, but it is also Pareto optimal when one person has all the goods and the other has none. This is where the flaws in this theory are. While reducing waste and inefficiency, it raises the possibility of inequality and the goods being distributed and allocated to one powerful person. So Pareto inefficiency does not provide basic sustenance for all. In fact, it may favor the few in power that have the capability to have more goods allocated to them. Pareto optimality will not result in Kingdom-enhancing outcomes if it benefits the rich and leaves the poor with less. Also, this means that to make the rich better off, it will continue to hurt the poor. One of Jesus’ primary messages was to love and take care of the poor. In light of this, we should look for other ways to preserve efficiency...

These activities give rise to costs for the company. The advantages and disadvantages of various types of analysis of costs and benefits are determined by the expectations of the management. This status report considers three different economic analyses. A working hypothesis determines which one of the methods is the most feasible and appropriate in attempting to explain the advantages and disadvantages of a particular safety program. Finally, a conclusion reveals the steps that are yet to be taken, the final recommendation and presentation deadlines. PROBLEM STATEMENT Apart from the ethical/moral reasons, underlying the desire to protect the health and human life, and from the obligations arising from the law of rules and regulations, economics play an increasingly important role in choosing a safety plan. Welfare

...The Welfare State - A Cost Benefit Analysis The role of welfare within our society has always been controversial. This problem emphasizes the need to understand the roles of variable factors when pertaining to the subject of welfare within our society. The proposed analysis will address the phenomenon of welfare assistance and several factors which may contribute to the increase or decrease of welfare assistance to the poor in 4 ways: (1) by defining major concepts and any other concepts about which there is likely to be misunderstanding (2) by further examining the past history pertaining to the subject of welfare assistance within the United States; (3) by developing the formulation of a hypothesis which will provide for an explanation of welfare; and finally (4) determining whether or not the benefits of welfare assistance outweigh the cost. Ultimately, the purpose of this research analysis is to investigate variable factors that may contribute to the increase or decrease of welfare assistance. This cost benefit analysis is an attempt to explain the tentative assumptions of others pertaining to the subject of welfare, in order to determine and explain the relationship of welfare to the economic cost and benefits. Cost-Benefit Analysis Before welfare assistance can be analyzed there is a need to define the terms that will be used. Policies like welfare assistance are worthwhile only if the benefits to society are greater than the costs. When choosing among a set of policies...
