The President Who Transformed the Federal Government

The history of a man is defined by his actions and his actions by the choices that he makes. What if by our choices, we could potentially change the destiny of our lives and our country? Such was the legacy of President Theodore Roosevelt. At age 42, President Roosevelt became the youngest man to assume the U.S. presidency after the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901. He became one of the world’s greatest leaders and was responsible for revolutionizing the power and authority of the presidential office. He was best known by his visionary leadership and influences which help to set the country on a path to prosperity and growth and also brought about social and economic changes that ushered our country into the 20th Century. Additionally, President Roosevelt used his influence and the authority of his presidency to transform the role and responsibilities of the federal government making him hated among his peers, but yet, a hero among the American people. Although President Theodore Roosevelt was a man of many accomplishments, he was praised for transforming the roles and responsibilities of the federal government by accomplishing the following; his “conservation effort in protecting public lands, his reinvention of stronger foreign and domestic policies, and establishment of the Pure Food and Drug Acts.

Perhaps, one of the reasons why President Roosevelt was so effective during his presidency was the fact that he was a transparent person; someone the American people could relate to and understand. He was commonly perceived as “charming, “humorous,” and having a “magnetic character” or personality. His openness regarding his personal health challenges and his struggles as a parent made him more approachable and

...assurance Professor: SCORTAR LUCIA-MONICA Toilet Paper Student: Gabriel Ionescu Ovidiu Contents Introduction 3 The history of toilet paper 3 Demands of the market 4 Design and Metrology 4 Raw materials 5 Manufacturing, Labeling and Packing 5 Bibliography 6   Introduction In our busy life, we tend to use some products so frequent that we can’t imagine life without them. How many of you think that you can live without water, not only for drinking purposes, but also for washing. How many of you think that you can live without food? How many of you think that you can live without clothes? The list can go on with phones, internet connection, cars etc. I think one of the objects that we don’t even think about, but in the same time we use it daily, is Toilet Paper. Was toilet paper on your list before? What about now? Do you think you can live without it? I don’t think so. Therefore, if toilet paper is such an important product, let’s find out some more information about it. The history of toilet paper Most of us think that toilet paper was invented a long, long time ago, but in fact the role of paper that we have today, was designed just in 1857 by Joseph Gayetty. Of course the idea of using paper for cleaning purposes was developed a long time ago. Although the use of paper as wrapping and padding material dates back to the 2nd century BC, the first documented use of toilet paper in human history was dated back to 6th century AD. In 589, the scholar-official...

...Dionte McWillis 3/6/16 Understanding of Art History The styles of art has change over the last hundreds of years and with this paper I will be examining the different styles such as impressionism, cubism, Dada, and surrealism. Each has its own important place in art history and all has produces very important pieces of art. I will show how each style progress and the main focus of each style. I gain on learning more about each style and how both styles change the way art is looked at and is done. Each style has its own unique feeling and motivation for each painting is different for the artist that did them. When it comes to the changes in art we have to think about Post-Impressionism time period and how art begin to shift to different forms and ideas. When looking at Paul Cezanne. Art work called “Still Life with Basket of Apples” to me the describe the symbolic and personal feeling in which each painting during this time period...

...Shark Aaron Staples Art History 203 George W. Born November 16th, 2014 I have chosen The Passage of the Delaware, c.1819 by Thomas Sully, Oil on canvas and Watson and the Shark, c.1778 by John Singleton Copley, Oil on canvas. Both are historic paintings, but not of the same theme. The subjects may be different, but the use of color is similar. One was painted during the middle of the revolutionary war and the other painted an important moment of the revolutionary war! One is in London while the other is in Philadelphia. Both are paintings, oil on canvas. When you put them side by side one may ask why one would choose to compare these two. I believe that both have similar styles in the way that they are painted as well as the history behind them. The Passage of the Delaware was commissioned by the state of North Carolina for the senate hall of the state house in Raleigh. This was a history painting showing that of George Washington crossing the frozen Delaware River to surprise the English forces. The battle was known as the battle of Trenton and was one of the most important victories for the revolutionary forces. Watson and the Shark on the other hand was not a commissioned painting, but one he did of his own free will and dramatized the story of the boy who almost got eaten by a shark and in the end he just lost his leg. This painting was a grand success for him and got him full access to the Royal Academy. Both of these were history paintings thus meaning it depicts...

...Art and Society: Renaissance to Modern Art Paper Assignment I Analysis of the Museum’s Painting The museum’s painting (Attributed to Quentin Massys, Lamentation, c. 1520) depicted a scene in which several grieving people were gathered around Christ after his crucifixion. The thing that stands out about this painting is that Christ is not adorned in fine clothing, nor does he even appear divine in any way. The surrounding people do not appear to be priests or divine, but are normal, plainly garbed, people. Upon moving my attention to other areas of the painting, I noticed the detailed landscape upon which this scene was set. The museum’s painting can be recognized as a northern painting, even without prior knowledge of the artist who painted it. Two distinct features in this painting are strongly indicative of a northern painting. One of these said features is the landscape setting. Northern works of art deal strongly with naturalism. The second indication that this may be a northern painting has to do with the people gathered around Christ. It is easy to tell that these individuals are merely common folk. A southern painting would most likely feature angels or clergymen gathered around Christ, but within paintings from the north was the concept of humanism. In lamens terms, humanism is merely a system of thought in which human beings are of utmost importance as opposed to the divine or supernatural. In summation, both styles of this painting, naturalism and humanism, are...

...The African Diaspora across Europe and Asia The study of the African Diaspora is a relatively focused topic, in general focusing on the Atlantic Slave Trade and those who were enslaved in the Americas. Of particular interest to many recent historians is the fact that black Africans have been experiencing forced settlement outside of Africa for centuries prior to the Atlantic Slave Trade. Slaves have established a presence in many different urban and rural areas of the world including, Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, and Europe. Ibn Khaldun has been quoted, “history is information about human social organization and that there were two basic forms of human social organization: urban and rural.” Through urban and rural settings, one can understand the development of African slavery outside of the Africa and excluding the Americas. In ancient times Africans traveled as merchants, sailors, soldiers, and adventurers across the Red and Mediterranean Seas and the Indian Ocean. Africans and Arabs long interacted in the urban areas of Egypt, the Sudan, and across the Red Sea and shared common values and customs. The Arabian Peninsula seems to have the earliest African contact, with Ethiopian traders settling on the peninsula long before the Romans came. Not much is known how these slaves were captured but they were seemingly traded along the Horn of Africa, in urban trading post set up by traders. Furthermore, during the expansion of Islam after the 7th century AD, ushered in...

...Gloria Wu Gretchen Halverson ART-HIST 110 Formal Analysis of Two Landscapes         Landscape painting has been around for many centuries depicting the surroundings from trees and mountains to towns and cities. Landscapes show many naturalistic aspects of the world around us from nature itself to the various architecture and cities, and what we see and interpret can be expressed differently on a canvas. Both Echo Lake, Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire and Field of Poppies are landscape paintings depicting different subject matter within 30 years of each other. Echo Lake, Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire was created in 1861, during the transition between Romanticism and Realism, by Albert Bierstadt. This landscape is made with oil on canvas when Bierstadt went to visit New Hampshire, United States of America. Field of Poppies was created in 1890, during the French Impressionism, by Claude Monet. This landscape is made with oil on canvas during the summer in the poppy field near his house in Giverny. These two paintings shows what the artists saw in their surroundings from the lake to the mountain, and from the field to the trees. Both paintings depict how the artists demonstrate their own interpretation of the landscape in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Bierstadt’s Echo Lake, Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire retains the idealized, realistic view of the landscape by depicting every detail he sees compared to Monet’s Field of Poppies where the landscape strongly incorporates...

...popular preacher and churchman of high rank in his order, the Dominicans. However, Meister Eckhart was the only theologian of the medieval period to be formally charged with heresy. The shock of his trial for heresy and the condemnation of some of his work by Pope John XXII in Argo Dominco has cast a shadow over his reputation and a lingering suspicion over his orthodoxy that has lasted to this day. This research paper will focus on the intellectual and social history of Meister Eckhart. The development in thought of any theologian emerges from the life world of the theologian. [4] The life world is formed by the meeting of the cultural, social, and religious history of the day. Theologians are continually searching for new and meaningful ways to interpret religious experience. Meister Eckhart interpreted the religious experience of his day in a way that no others at the time did. I will explore in this paper some of the intellectual forces at work at the time and how he interpreted and connected with these. Secondly, it is important to understand the social history of the time. No theologians' thought is ever formed by simply offering commentary on previous thinkers. As a preacher Meister Eckhart would certainly have been aware of the needs and various expressions of the community. I will explore some of the religious social movements that emerged from the life world of the era, particularly the Beguine movement and Eckhart's affinity with it. There is little doubt that Meister...

...writing habits. In almost all of my papers, I stray way off track just to make a point that needed one sentence of explanation. During the time I sent on my final portfolio, I really tried to focus on getting the point across in much shorter detail and making sure I am staying on topic. The thing that has helped me the most is the feedback I am receiving from you and my classmates. I decided to begin with my original research paper, which is my text of choice, and follow with my final draft of my research paper. My main reasoning behind that was to show how I interpreted the feedback from the in-class peer review. In my first draft, I only mentioned Willard Cutter in the first two paragraphs and the closer. During the research process, I had a very hard time finding information on Willard himself and not the Civil War in general, and that really shows in my paper. So during my revisions, I went back to special collections and incorporated information during those specific events and some of what Willard wrote to his family. With this, I made sure my paper has much more to do with Willard Cutter than just the main events of the Civil War, helping me stay more on topic...

My American History Project

...When I was in eighth grade I had a huge project in my American History Class. In this project I had to write a ten page paper about the decade of my choice, come up with a question from the decade I chose, find people from the era to help me answer my question, and create a display. This was one of the hardest and most time consuming projects I had ever done. It didn’t help that I was in a lot of other tough classes and in a lot of extracurricular activities. I didn’t know how I would be able to finish it but I eventually did. I was extremely proud of the project I completed and all the work I put into it. The project began in the fall of my eighth grade year and it was due at the end of the year. This project seemed overwhelming. The teacher...

...Problem: Crayon “graffiti” on 20th century Japanese prints by Munakata Shiko. The prints were mounted to screens, and the graffiti appeared at about 4 ft. from the ground—around the same height as a child. Unlike graffiti on a painted wall, however, crayon does not come off of printed paper quite as easily. Experiment: Mock-ups were created with Japanese paper, printed with black sumi ink, then colored over with both waxed-based and water soluble crayons. Possible solvents were chosen from the wax section on the Teas diagram and included petroleum ether, mineral spirits, toluene and xylene. These solvents were tested in three situations: Solvent on a swab A bath of water and solvent, followed by blotting of the stain Damp blotter surface with local application of moisture and solvent, followed by blotting of the stain Results: Solvents alone did not reduce crayon to a satisfactory level; mineral spirits created a transparent stain visible through the paper With the bath, it was impossible to control the amount of solvent used, but the overall result was positive Crayon was lifted locally, but also migrated along with solvents to form tidelines The ultimate solution was the use of a water-based treatment with toluene and xylene, such as that used in Experiment 2. For best results, Hsin-Chen suggested first manually reducing the graffiti with a kneaded eraser and scalpel.
