Subject: Career Field Interview Report

For this report, I interviewed a guy named Tim. This interview was taken over the telephone. He works at McLaren Hospital in Flint. I came up with nine questions, and got the answers to them. These are provided below: 1. Describe a typical day on the job?
I arrive at the hospital 7:30 a.m. I perform fluoroscopy examinations; give epidural steroid injections for back and leg pain, review requests and direct technologists who do CT, MRI and other scans. I interpret those scans, mammograms, chest x-rays, ultrasounds and other imaging studies. I spend about one hour on administrative tasks. I usually finish up between 5 and 6 p.m., but when I'm on call, the day just keeps going.

2. What do like about this job?
It is wonderfully satisfying to know that I'm making a valuable contribution to patient care either directly or in consultation with the patient's attending physician or the surgeon.

3. What do you dislike about the job?
Telling a patient they may have cancer or a mother that they have miscarried a pregnancy.

4. Why did you choose this as a career?
General radiologists care for the full range of people, male, female, young and old. Our work is intellectually challenging and technically demanding. And there's always something new to learn.

5. Who is it at the hospital that you mainly interact with?
I interact with technologists, healthcare administrators, patients, nurses and other physicians. I also interact with my own partners several times a day as we review and evaluate patient imaging data

6. Do you know if this career will be changing in anyway within the future?
Not that I know of.

7. How long have you worked as a Radiologist?
Seventeen years. 8. After accomplishing your degree, was it difficult to find a job? How long did it take?
Finding a job did take some work but was not all that difficult. I got a job within the year after graduating college.

9. What would you say is the most rewarding aspect of this job?
My favorite part of the job is being able to tell parents that their child is okay or watching the expecting mothers’ facial reactions when she hears that the ultrasound of her baby looks normal.

From this career field interview report, I gained a lot of knowledge. I now know some more information about my career filed in which I did not already. The person’s position and responsibilities interested me greatly. This career still sounds like something I would like to do, and enjoy!

...Summary University of Phoenix HCS/577 Charlotte Igo July 30, 2012 The Health care financial environment is the most common for- profit, not-for-profit, and also the government funding. In this paper, it will be identified that one entity of these health care financial environments. Also it will describe the financial structure of the financial environment. Along with identifying the policies unique to each of the financial environment, and also to identify the financial management practices prevalent in the financial environment. Then it will be explained why the effective financial management is more difficult in health care than in other industries. First we will talk about is the Health Management Associates, Inc. that was founded in 1977. The Health Management Associates was founded to own, also leased and then managed the hospitals throughout the United States. As of the HMA, they operate about fifty nine hospitals in fifteen states with approximately eighty eight hundred licensed beds. Company employs around thirty two thousands associates and hosts a total medical staff of approximately eight thousands physicians. HMA is a for profit organization, with that the profit organization is with the three key features of investor-owned corporations. The owners aka known as the stockholders of the business are well defined and they exercise...

...Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Case The indictment of a former Cleveland Clinic Florida employee for conspiracy to commit health care fraud with personal information of more than 1,100 Naples patients isn’t likely to bring a hammer of civil fines against the hospital by the federal government, which has yet to sanction a hospital or other health care entity for patient privacy breaches. But the former hospital employee at Cleveland Clinic in Weston and her Naples cousin, who was her alleged co-conspirator, will be the first in South Florida to be prosecuted for violating the federal law protecting patients’ privacy rights and the third such case nationally, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami. In the middle are the Naples victims who, ironically, have little legal recourse because the federal law, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, known as HIPAA, does not provide individuals with the right to pursue legal action when there’s been a breach of their personal health information, according to several privacy rights and HIPAA attorneys. Their only option would be to bring suit under Florida privacy rights laws, but success hinges on proving actual damages from theft of their personal information. Fernando Ferrer Jr., 29, of Naples, registered as an owner of Advanced Medical Claims Inc. in Naples, and his cousin, Isis Machado, 22, of Miami Lakes, were arrested and released on bond Sept. 8 on charges they stole...

...environments. This will be done while also looking at the prevailing financial management practices that are prevalent within the financial environments and why it is that effective financial management is so difficult inside the healthcare industry as opposed to other industries. Not for profit financial environment Not for profit financial environment can simply be identified by their name and that they have a no profit motive. A prime example of a not for profit organization could be a clinic that is located in Marlin, Texas called the Falls Community Hospital and Clinic. This organization offers a cost effective health service to the residents of their town and is mandated to not make a profit but to only make enough yearly revenue to keep things running and to sustain the delivery of its health services. When dealing with the financial structure of a not for profit organization it is key to understand that the ownership interest is not able to be transferred. Keeping this fact in mind, the most logical accounting for this type of financial environment would be fund accounting. With this case the main emphasis is put on resource accountability and according to Finkler (2006) when it comes to not for profits there is utilization of Differential GAAP, which stands for Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). In not for profit organizations they do not have to pay taxes but they do have to file for a tax exempt status. When dealing with the...

In addition to its patient care mission, HCA has joined with the Federal government to provide education and scholarship programs.  A strategic assessment of HCA was conducted to examine its current business strategies. A strengths, weakness, threats, and opportunities (SWOT) analysis indicated that HCA’s internal strengths outweighed its weaknesses and the external threats outweighed the opportunities. HCA’s current mission and values statements are sufficient to support its success, but improvements can be made in each. Primary strategic emphasis is through an application of expansion and maintenance of scope adaptive strategies. ...Parliament of Australia Department of Parliamentary Services Parliamentary Library Information, analysis and advice for the Parliament RESEARCH PAPER www.aph.gov.au/library 26 May 2010, no. 17, 2009–10, ISSN 1834-9854 Budget Review 2010–11 Last year’s Budget was framed amid a sharply deteriorating world economy which was considered the most challenging global economic conditions since the Great Depression. In 2009, the global economy contracted for the first time in the post-war era. In contrast, Australia grew by almost 1.5 per cent supported by monetary and fiscal policy stimulus, a well-functioning banking system, and strong growth in a number of East Asian economies. The third Rudd Government Budget, presented on 11 May 2010, was developed within an improving but still uncertain outlook, with events in Greece and other European Union countries reminding us of the risks to the global economic recovery. Strong economic growth in China and India is expected to continue to flow throughout the region and, despite a slower pace, the US is leading the recovery among our advanced economy major trading partners. Global economic growth is in the early stages of recovery but we should remain cognisant of the precarious economic environment which is continuing to challenge government policy makers around the globe. Once again the Parliamentary Library has produced the annual Budget Review that examines the key features of a selection of crucial measures contained...
