Creating home-school partnerships are beneficial for all students, parents, and teachers. “When young children know that their parents are actively and contentedly involved in their school or center experience, they are most likely to feel comfortable in their away-from-home environment” (Estes, L. S. & Krogh, 2012).
One benefit home-school partnerships result in is the children feeling and knowing that they are supported. Having parents help in the classroom gives the child a protected feeling because it gives them a since of home. This also gives the children the motivation to succeed by making their parents proud. Some parents might not have had the best experience during their school years and sometimes those experiences linger and can make them worry about their own children. With home-school partnerships parents are given the opportunity to be involved with their children’s classroom experience. The parent can give the teacher insight on behavior, and traditions and can also work with teachers on a team approach. A team approach helps everyone involved – the students, teachers, and parents. This gives the teacher and parents a sense of mutual concern. They are both there to help the child, they share concerns, and positive outcomes. “When teachers and parents help youngsters view any learning deficits as challenges rather than as weaknesses, they help the children feel encouraged to work harder rather than give up” (Estes, L. S. & Krogh, 2012), the partnership allows them to work together to help the child do better and succeed. On a personal note, home-school partner ships helped me all throughout my schooling years. In the beginning I was terrified of school, I just wanted to stay home but after my mom got involved in kindergarten I was less worried and actually excited. My mom not only helped me but she was there for other students as well. She made
