Growing up or living for a long time in a country other than home usually shrinks the feeling of belonging to the home country. It also increases the chances that make a person feel that he or she doesn’t have a specific home. For that Pico Iyer, who was born in England to Indian Parents and grew up away from his home country, said about himself and anyone whose idea about home is not tied to a specific home “We are the Transit Loungers, forever heading to the Departure Gate, forever orbiting the world. […] Nothing is strange to us, and nowhere is foreign. We are visitors even in our own countries.” When it comes to memories, there is no one who doesn’t have memories, regardless of their types. Memories that are stuck in minds often force their owners to remember. In general, everyone has his or her own memories about home, regardless of the home type. Also, these kinds of memories are usually unforgettable. Adaptation is an issue that should be taken into anyone consideration, mainly for a person who is forced to travel to another country, a new home, due to any reason, for example, studying, working, or even living. That person, at the new home, will be exposed to new habits and ways of life that are completely different to his or her ones. Therefore, he or she might need to adapt him or herself to the new life which he or she may don’t like.

...Courtney Davis October 2, 2014 Bethany Quest III First Essay What is Home? The definition of home is the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household or an institution for people needing professional care or supervision. This definition describes home in the most basic form that truly has no other meaning. The first definition does not take into account the millions of people who possibly do not have a permanent residence or who has no family. It seems to suggest home is a place without personal value; well I think that the term home has a considerably large amount of personal significance that give it a different definition depending on each individual. Home is a place that one would want to go to. “I just want to go home”, clearly indicates a want to go to a certain place. This goes back into the notion that home does not specifically have to be a house. There are plenty of people who feel at home in places that are nowhere close to a permanent residence. There are some people who live in the city, but feel like they are at home when they visit the mountain side. To feel at home, I think, constitutes being at home no matter where it may be. It is a place where people can be content or possibly happy. Home is a place where one could live according to who they feel that they are. Home is a place of expression. It may seem like this is only true for those who own their own house and can decorate...

Starbucks and Home Depot

...STARBUCKS Global Communication’s main focus was to cut costs to return profitability and to introduce new products and services. Many companies are going through the same situation as Global Communication is going through. One useful example of similar incident would be Starbucks. Starbucks is a fast growing profitable organization in which it earns $600 million in 2004 (Horovitz, 2009). Like Global Communication, Starbucks have competitors and Starbucks’ biggest competitors are McDonald’s and other fast-food companies. McDonald’s sell cheap food and beverage, especially when they introduced the new McCafe coffee bar. The economy is not doing well for the past few years and people have shift their buying habits from Starbucks luxury coffees into fast-food lower-priced coffees, lattes, and cappuccinos. After 2008 first-quarter results reflected a 10% drop, CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, announced that Starbucks plan to cut jobs, close stores, slow growth all over the world (Horovitz, 2009). Starbucks plan to open 140 new stores in United States when they usually open 200 stores a year. Starbucks also plan to open 170 new stores globally when the number should be 270 (Austin Business Journal, 2009). Starbucks is making a smart move by lowering their target goal. The corporation went through a financial analysis quarterly and noticed the drops of profits. Something needs to be done so they put a push into it by downsizing stores and employees. Global Communication...

Home Repair Scenarios

...Before buying a home, you want to make sure that everything stays up to par. It is sometimes surprising how many people place trust in the home inspector to tell them the truth. What a lot of people do not realize is that most home inspectors will not scrutinize anything that is not blatantly obvious. The typical response when something seems out of place is to refer it to the specialist. The problem has become so widespread that the state of Arizona has now created a system where you have to attend college to be given a license. Is There a Problem? Refer It to the Specialist Your standard home inspector might spot an issue, but a lot of them aren't going to tell you if there is a gas problem or the home had previously been used as a meth...

Manufactured Homes

...bottom-of-the-line financing, even though my credit is pretty good. They want 8-9% when other mortgages are going for 5-6%. How come?" Most purchasers of manufactured housing, including you, are shut out of the mainstream mortgage market. They must find loans in a parallel market, which is much like the unsecured personal loan market. Lenders in this parallel market assume that loss rates on manufactured house loans will be high, as they are on personal loans, and they price them accordingly. They view manufactured houses as poor collateral that provides them with little protection. One reason for this view is that manufactured houses can be moved. Before the HUD building code went into effect in 1976, manufactured houses were called "mobile homes", and this term is still widely used. Even though few ever leave their first site, they remain tarnished by the image of mobility. Lender concern that the collateral can disappear is well grounded when the house sits on rented land, which is the case for about half of all manufactured houses. Most leases are short, and if the landowner decides that it is more profitable to use the land in some other way, the manufactured house owner must move it or leave it. Since the cost of moving is very high, and in many cases the property is worth little more than the debt, owners sometimes just walk away. The lender's collateral ends up in the trash heap. Few owners of manufactured houses have built equity the way owners of site-built houses do...

The Smart Home

...Ruth Rininger Professor Alma Scott CINT 106 7 May 2013 The Smart Home On your morning commute, have you ever thought, did I turn the hallway light off? What about the coffee maker? Did I set the security alarm? With a smart home, you wouldn’t worry about these things at all; you would just pull out your smart phone or your work computer, visit the Internet, and control your house. Have a hard day at work? When you walk in the door, you can have your favorite music playing and the lights dimmed. Worried about what your teenager is doing to your house while you’re away? Just watch him or her online from wherever you are. Do thoughts of the smart home bring to mind images of the Jetsons? The technology is not quite to that level, but give it time. What is a smart house? According to Craven, “a smart house is a house that has a highly advanced automatic systems for lighting, temperature control, multi-media, security, window and door operations, and many other functions” (1). Practically anything in your home can be networked, including drapes and shades, gates, garage doors, door locks, doorbells, lights, dishwasher, refrigerator, heaters, alarm clocks, washer/dryer, microwave, coffeemaker, hot water system, air conditioners, central vacuum system, water controls, pool cover, fireplaces, toys, e-books, lawnmower, cars and other vehicles, piano, weather station, and furniture. Also able to be networked are audio and video devices, such as receivers, amplifiers, speakers...
