Brian Caprarola 1. a) The balance not being zeroed would cause the mass of the substance and beaker to be different therefore effecting the density calculation seeing that density is found by mass divided by volume. b) This would affect the volume of the substance because when reading the meniscus, you are supposed to look at the bottom of the bend. Reading the volume will cause the density to be wrong again seeing that it is found by mass divided by volume. c) Air bubbles in the substance would cause the volume to be wrong therefore affecting the density.

2. An experiment that you can determine what large supply of unlabeled indicator paper is to put drops of different solutions on the paper and observe if a chemical reaction takes place. By taking a stirring rod and placing a drop of hydrochloric acid on to each paper and record if a color change takes place. The repeat is the process with water and sodium hydroxide solution. Depending if the paper has no change at all or if it turns pink or blue will let you know if an acid, base, or neutral solution was placed on the paper.

3. A simple experiment would allow you to determine which bottle contains what solution is placing a few drops of each on litmus paper. The hydrochloric acid will turn the blue paper red because it is an acidic solution. The sodium chloride solution will not show any change on the paper because it is a neutral solution. Finally, the sodium hydroxide will turn the red litmus paper blue because it is a basic solution.

4. An experiment that would allow me to determine which bottles contains solid sodium chloride or solid sodium carbonate would be to add hydrochloric acid to each and observe the reactions to see if carbon dioxide would form. The sodium carbonate would bubble.

If it is stated directly, locate the relevant sentence or sentences. If it is implied, state the thesis in your own words. In my opinion the thesis of Lou’s Place is implied. It does imply that Lou and his customers have an unspoken bond and fondness for one another, even though they belittle each other and the customer pays to pour their own coffee. Lou’s Place is not that place where the service is perfect or the conversation is polite. It is that place where you can be yourself; cook your own eggs and where service is not at all prompt. It is almost as if you are at home with family and friends. You will be criticized before you even find a complement. 2. Which statement would best serve as a topic sentence for paragraph 13? Explain why. I think the best topic sentence for paragraph 13 would be “Regular customers at Lou’s are used to...

...IS4560 Hacker tools, techniques and incident handeling Unit 1 Homework 1 Attacks are defined as any malicious activity carried out over a network that has been detected by an intrusion detection system, intrusion prevention system, or firewall. Based on the geographical map the whitepaper lays out for us, the United States receives chart topping threats in malicious code, phishing hosts, bots, and attack origin. Web based threats are increasing by the day with the endless amount of client-side vulnerabilities, attackers can focus on websites to mount additional, client side attacks. The most common web based attack in 2009 was related to malicious PDF activity, which actually accounted for almost 50% of web-based attacks. The year before that number was only at 11%. This attack got so popular because exchanging PDF files was a common day to day activity. So it wasn’t rare when you saw one in your inbox and didn’t think twice before opening it. 34% of all web based attacks happen in the United States, China is second with 7%. Some of those extremely high U.S. numbers are actually on the decline from the previous year’s report. Most of the decrease is because of increases in other countries and the Federal Trade Commission shut down a ISP that was known to distribute malicious code, among other content. One of the botnets linked to the ISP was Pandex (aka Cutwall). This botnet was responsible for as much as 35% of spam observed globally. The most difficult...

...Susan Turner Homework # 1 1. The free cash flow for 2014 is $373,584 using the EBDA model which states that EBDA = net income + depreciation + amortization. The free cash flow for 2014 is $453,584 using the EBITDA model which states that EBITDA = net income + interest + depreciation + amortization. 2. If depreciation doubled taxable income would fall and taxes would be decreased. So your net income would decrease but net cash flow would increase. 3. The quick ratio for 2014 is .9. Quick ratio = ( current assets – inventories)/ current liabilities. Quick ratio = ( 2,680,112 – 1,716,480)/ 1,039,800 = .9. The current ratio for 2014 is 2.5. Current ratio = current assets/ current liabilities 2,680,112 / 1,039,800 = 2.5. The higher the current ratio the more capable the company is of paying its obligations as it has a larger proportion of asset value relative to the value of its liabilities. The higher the quick ratio the better the company’s liquidity position. The company’s liquidity position in 2013 was very low when compared to 2012 and 2014 and against the industry average. 4. ROE = (net income / pretax profit) x ( pretax profit / EBIT) x (EBIT / sales) x (sales / assets) x (assets / equity). ROE = (253,584 / 422,640) x ( 422,640 / 502, 640) x (502,640 / 7,035,600) x (7,035,600 / 2,680,112) x (2,680,112 / 1,977,152). ROE = .6 x .8408403629 x .0714423788 x 2.6251141743 x 1.3555417085. ...Homework #1 6) A) How does the provision of social security affect people incentive to save while they are working? There is a benefit offset for people who retire early. At age 62, I will start getting Social Security benefits (in two months). I can work and earn up to $12,600.00 without a reduction in SS benefits.  On an actuarial basis, a person gets the same total amount of benefits if he retires early or after age 65. You just get lower payments, but for a longer period of time.  I retired early. So my SS benefits will be like a huge, tax free, pay raise for doing nothing.  If a person does experience a benefit reduction, he really do Explain whether each of the following government activities is motivated by esn't lose benefits!!!!!!!!! If you take your SS benefits at age 62, and if you earn more than the minimum allowed, you are paying Social Security taxes while you work. You work longer, pay more in and benefits ultimately increase. B) how does the reduction in benefits associated with higher earning affect people incentive to work past age 65? When the benefites are reduced (like an increase in the age you can start collecting ... or a decrease in the inflation adjustment) then the dependants of SS will find they do not have enough money to pay their bills. This will entice many to find employment to compensate for what they cannot purchase (medicines, rent, food, etc.  8) a concern about equality or a concern about efficiency in the case of efficiency...

A- The IEEE is use as the standard for Ethernet applications and cabling. A- There are two types of 6 cable, Cat-6 and Cat-6a I would recommend a Cat-6a for this network, since its intended use is for 10 Gigabit Ethernet with a 500MHz bandwidth support. 3. - What cable would you recommend to offer the best shielding performance? A- I would recommend a Cat-6a (STP cable) for this project. My recommendation is based on this cable capability to protect the network from EMI and to operate at 10GBase-T. 4. - What type of cable would you use for: 4.1 The horizontal spaces? A- Riser-rated cabling is more durable. However, for this project I would recommend a plenum cabling system to prevent toxic fumes if caught on fire. The client is planning to route the cable thought the same space used for air circulation and HVAC. 4.2 The vertical links? A- I would recommend implementing a riser-rated cabling to avoid fire to be spread between floors. “Plenum rated cables can be used in the riser, BUT riser cables cannot be used in Plenum spaces” (PowerPoint presentation in our 1st class). 5. - What would you look for in...

In the short run, by considering fixed costs in the analysis, the manager might be including irrelevant information. If the fixed costs will be incurred whether the special order is accepted or rejected, these costs should not bear on the decision. So in the short run, the company should accept the special order if the revenue covers the differential costs, assuming that the price of the special order does not affect other business at the company. However, in the long run, all costs should be covered because fixed costs might change and thus become relevant. 4-35. Pricing Decisions 1.
