Speech outline
Purpose statement: To inform the audience of my passion towards helping my community and someday being able to give back by funding some organizations directly for minority groups.
Audience Analysis: It is a class of approximately 35 Merritt College students and our instructor Dr. Altman. The class is composed of all ethnic groups, majority female students; ages vary from 18 to about 45.
Introduction: I can remember ever since I was about five years old my mother and I would constantly be at the DMV, the hospital, and any other places to do one thing, (the reason why we were there in the first place.) But I would often find myself there for another hour or two helping people fill out paper work, translate, and help them find where they needed to go. My mother has always been my biggest influence and guidance. She has always been a really kind and loving person, though she may not have all the necessary resources, she has always had such a big desire to extend a hand to those who need it. Growing up she has always inspired me to be like her and has motivated me to help those in my community.
Main point 1: In high school I joined a group called “Homies Empowerment,” our first goal was to help our own peers who were facing many difficulties and were mostly gang impacted. We started this group with the help of our great mentor Cesar Cruz, and were strongly supported by some loving people.
Transition: As our group grew and developed, so did our ideas, dreams, and passion for doing something bigger within our community as a whole not just our two high schools (Fremont & Castlemont.) We realized that if we were able to bring these two schools together, we were able to do bigger and greater things that would benefit others too.

Main point 2: We started to see what was needed in our community and decided to form a group of students who would give out breakfast as early as 6am to jornaleros (day laborers) who would be up standing along the sidewalks all over High Street and its surrounding streets. These workers were there since as early as 4am, most of them were new to the United States, and some hardly even spoke Spanish. Majority of them were here to work and be able to send money back home to their families and in hope to someday be able to bring them with them and be reunited.

Transition: My mother would often be a volunteer and together we would make the champurrado, hot coffee, and sometimes arroz con leche that we would give out to them that morning with no charge at all. Our mentors and some of the students would bring the sweet bread, sometimes we’d have people donate all kinds of packaged food and fresh fruits to give out to the jornaleros. Seeing how thankful they were was honestly the best feeling, knowing that you have put a smile on someone’s face is just priceless.

Main point 3: Through this volunteer work in my community and being able to see just how happy I made others and myself, I realized I enjoyed doing this, and that it really came from my heart to give them a little something. I enjoyed working with my peers for a cause that meant so much to us. People were impressed by what we did and our work was always highly appreciated. What really mattered to us was not how the news paper was impressed, or how many news wanted to show up and show what we were doing, what we were highly motivated by was the gratitude of the people we were doing it for, the people in our community, the jornaleros who were mainly neglected by the rest.

Conclusion: Today I am in Merritt college, pursuing my education and future goals. With this I know I will not only make my mother proud but I will inspire and be able to help fund places that will offer services to people like jornaleros and other people in my community. I plan to one day be able and feel proud of myself for being able to bring some help to those who need it, just like my mother has always taught me to do.
What visual do you plan to use: I plan to bring in some pictures I have of Homies empowerment showing some of the great accomplishments we had.

Empowering Woman

...landscape of these countries? Why some countries have been slow to empower women in their countries? This paper will address these questions and other areas as it relates to the empowerment of women. Empowering means “To invest with power, especially legal power or official authority”. So when you hear the phrase “empowering women” what comes to mind? Initially I had no clue, it was until I read articles that I fully understood what it meant. Political empowerment, Economic empowerment, and Social empowerment is what empowering women is all about. I’ve only listed a few of the categories, but some countries and or societies treat them as mutually exclusive to women. The first article I read emphasis the importance’s of education among women. Educating women would be one of the first steps toward empowerment. Education helps with social development and improves your well-being. Yet there are still place that excluded young girls from a formal education. The benefits of women being educated greatly outweigh them being illiterate. With education empowerment among women; they better informed on health matters which can lead to deduction in population and child mortality rates. Educated women can seek better employment opportunities, which in turn help their households and national income. Empowerment for women in terms of educations; drive women to become more politically active and more informed how to exercise their legal rights. What I found fascinating there are...

Empowering Your Organization

...Empowering Your Organization Empowering Your Organization This paper will focus on four detrimental symptoms of disempowerment: Blame and victim mentality, Apathy and burnout, Gossip and backbiting and Top talent leaving for better opportunities or work environment. These are common issues found within many organizations. Their negative impact is corrosive and metastasizes like a cancer. However, if symptoms are recognized, diagnosed and consequently addressed the damage can be halted and replaced with positive and productive values that will serve to empower. World-renowned for their pioneering work on empowerment the six values identified by Gershon and Straub (2009), will be used as a tool to develop strategies to resolve these four issues of disempowerment. The Blame Game Hierarchy, inequality, and violence, in the history of mankind there has been a structure of those that lead and those that follow, the blessed and those that lament, hunters and prey. The world is a diverse place; therefore, different societal sects or cultures view and respond to difference in position/title, wealth and power, and capability in dissimilar ways. In the workplace this disparity can produce a phenomena referred to as “victim mentality.” This behavior is marked by an individual blaming everything and everyone for their failures and woes; with the individual assuming the role of victim, e.g., John who is chronically tardy to work is terminated. Instead of seeing his behavior as the...

Decentralized Organization

...A decentralized organization is one in which decision making is not confined to a few top executives but rather is throughout the organization, with managers at various levels making key operating decisions relating to their sphere of responsibility. Decentralization is a matter of degree, since all organizations are decentralized to some extent out of necessity. At one extreme, a strongly decentralized organization is one in which even the lowest-level managers and employees are empowered to make decisions. At the other extreme, in a strongly decentralized organization, lower-level managers have little freedom to make decisions. Although most organizations fall somewhere between these two extremes, there is a pronounced trend toward more and more decentralization. Advantages/Benefits of Decentralization: Decentralization has many advantages/benefits, including: 1. Top management is relieved of much day-to-day problem solving and is left free to concentrate on strategy, on higher level decision making, and coordinating activities. 2. Decentralization provides lower level managers with vital experience in making decisions. Without such experience, they would be ill-prepared to make decisions when they are promoted into higher level positions. 3. Added responsibility and decision making authority often result in increased job satisfaction. Responsibility and the authority, that goes with it makes the job more interesting and provides greater Incentives for people to put out...

Taking Development to People Is a Fallacy

...according to the oxford dictionary refers to the ordinary men and women of a country rather than those who govern or have a special position in the society. (common mwananchi) My understanding of the statement: giving common citizens or people the ability/ empowering them economically, socially for there general well being. Fallacy: We can take development to the people The fallacy in reasoning here is that we can empower local people so that they can take control of their own lives, express their own demands and find their own solutions to their problems. According to this fallacy, the empowerment of common citizens by people in governance or those who have a special position in the society is possible and likely to be achieved; it presumes that the government/ the high & mighty in the society are willing to empower the local people and the latter are ready to receive the empowerment. This fallacy fails to address pertinent issues that will affect the smooth realization of taking development to the people. Greed & power People in governance / the high & mighty in the society want to amass wealth for themselves at the expense of the common citizens. This has seen to it that few people control resources instead of trickling it down to the people and hence a wide gap between the rich and the poor. e.g. Robert Mugabe...

What Makes Me a Hbcu Allessay

...What Makes Me A HBCU ALL-STAR? I consider myself to be an HBCU ALL-STAR because I possess the personal characteristic needed to push forward in spite of circumstances that may try to push me backwards. What is an ALL-STAR? I would define an ALL-STAR as an individual who succeeds when it appears that failure is the only option; refuses to take no as the only answer when there is always the possibilities for yes; and who understands that being successful alone is never acceptable because it is with others that one truly obtains success. There are six characteristics that I possess that make me an HBCU ALL-STAR and if others possess these characteristics as well, they can also be ALL-STARS. In this statement I will share with you my strengths because of the characteristics of passion, ability to persuade, concern/care, empowering, fearlessness and confidence. Although passion is often defined as the feeling one has for another, it is also a driving force in making dreams come true. When you have passion for something you live it. When you have passion for something you breathe it. When you have passion for something you get up with it on your mind and go to sleep with it on your mind. Passion is a strong desire, embedded in your inner-being that drives you to keep on task as your mission unfolds. Passion is what makes me an HBCU ALL-STAR. Women Empowerment

...WOMEN EMPOWERMENT “Women empowered means mother India empowered”. - Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru WHAT IS WOMAN EMPOWERMENT? What does it really mean to empower women? Is it political empowerment? Economic empowerment? Social empowerment? In fact, these categories are not mutually exclusive but mutually reinforcing. Women’s political empowerment, usually envisioned as political participation in elections and government, is necessary to give women a voice in the policies that affect their lives. Women’s economic empowerment, which entails that women have the authority to make their own decisions regarding use of their resources, leads to prosperity for families and communities. Social empowerment, often achieved through public policy and education, liberates women from the mistreatment, exploitation, and oppression that inhibit women from reaching their full potential. HISTORY OF WOMAN EMPOWERMENT IN INDIA The status of women in India has been subject to many great changes over the past few millenium. In early vedic period women enjoyed equal status with men. Rigveda & Upanishads mention several names of women sages and seers notably Gargi & Maitrey. However later the status of women began to deteriorate approximately from 500 b.c., the situation worsened with invasion of Mughals and later on by European invaders. Reformatory movements by Guru nanak, RajaramMmohan Rai, others did give some relief. It is not that Britishers didn’t do any thing for improving the condition of women...

Employee Empowering

...many companies are using various techniques and empowering employees is one of them. Employee’s empowerment means that the employee can make decisions and take risks rispecting the company’s vision and goals. However, the empowerment has many pro and cons. Some of the advantages are: increase in motivation, productivity, efficiency, creativity, reduce costs, and focus on quality. Also, when the employee is empowered will become as an entrepreneurial and will take risks that will translate in a higher income for the company or success. However, the employees take higher risks it can be a disadvantage as it can be even cause a loss from taking the wrong decision. As for example, an employee could try to predict the sales in the future for a particular product and decide to order too much of that product that will be difficult to sell. Another disadvantage of employee empowerment is the security of private information being not secure as everyone can access the information. For example, in medical office patients information need to be safe, but an employee decides to take work at home and all the paper documents with patient information now can be accessed by everyone visiting her house. Empowerment

...Motivation and Empowerment Team B CJA/474 May 5, 2014 Ashley Webb Motivation and Empowerment Motivation and empowerment are very important aspects of leadership in any organization. Halting someone with ambition serves no purpose; however, many in leadership roles who do not understand the front line theories involved serve to offer nothing but confusion and discourse among their men. According to “More, Vito, and Walsh” (2012), “Motivation is a predictor of overall effort as an individuals ability, and an organizations support will determine the level of an officers job performance (p. 181). ...a larger system. For example, social workers may interview people in the neighborhood, institution, or at a smaller group level. At the mezzo social work level the social worker usually works with families or small groups. Social workers on the micro level work with clients on an individual level, more one on one. For example, this could be a Case Manager in an addictions facility. They will monitor and tend to the needs of any client or individual and assist them wherever it is possible. The concept of personal empowerment comes from within an individual. Owning who you are and not letting others steer you in any other direction other than the one you envision yourself, is the ability to have personal empowerment. Personal empowerment is where someone finally understands where they want to go, who they want to be, and how they are going to get there. Interpersonal empowerment is the experiences of others that assist in the resolutions.
