Hope requires faith and faith requires action, life can seem hard and unjust sometimes but never stop hoping. Learn to follow your heart and be brave no matter the circumstance. Heavenly Father is on your side. This semester came and went in a blink of an eye, but as it did I was changed along the way. Since the first day of class I thought I was comfortable and confident in who I was becoming as an individual. Although as naturally imperfect beings we can be wrong sometimes. I was wrong this time, the person I was becoming was not constantly aware of the way other people felt when communicating. As one of my weaknesses I tend to judge group settings and make an overall assumption they all feel the same way. Yet this class taught me differently, it taught me that although some people in the group can feel a certain way, not all. Through the semesters’ teaching’s I am now able to read these situations much clearly now. Also I appreciated getting to know everyone s strengths it made me help to look outside of the individual I was talking to and more in depth to who they are. It made me look at them and understand why they were feeling that way. I even began to use it outside of school, to wonder what strengths they had and maybe that's why we clashed. This class has taught me a great deal of looking at an individual carefully and understanding them first before making assumptions. The strengths test gave me much insight into who I was and why I was the person I am. Yet it wasn’t only the strengths test that gave me greater insight it was the presentations, evaluations and tests we were given inside this class. I learned through this class specifically that being confident in who I am helps me tell my story with hope and conviction. Often, people can tell when a person is feeling self conscious and when that is lacking people tend to get away from that negative feeling. When I am being myself and telling that story the only way I know I can. I have seen my point get across no matter what it is. When I am acting on confidence people listen more effectively and enjoy listening. I enjoy being confident and the days where I lack that confidence is the day I have the worst communication. The best way to describe it is, when I talk to a really cute guy and once my confidence begins to lack all I can say is “Hi” and then smile like a weirdo. This is an example of poor communication and if I were to tell my story to him there would be no way to effectively get across any hope or conviction. Overall, I have learned that through confidence I can always display hope and conviction powerfully in any story. Hope is such a powerful word, we need it often in our lives. Whether life being going good or bad, hope is still required. This class has offered me ripples of hope in my life by making me see that people are not so bad. I tend to fall victim of caring too much of what people think. Before this class I always thought that when people gossip or say mean things it is because they are just simply mean people. Then, I get into this class and began to learn what makes these people, not people but individuals. I began to get to know them personally and to question why they were thinking the way they did. Going back to the strengths test it made a huge impact on the way I see people and myself. I look at them and while they are communicating their thoughts I see their strengths and then I begin to realize why we clash. People are not people, they are unique individuals with stories and traits that make them who they are. The hope that was given to me has made my life better. I no longer hold small, insignificant grudges against anyone anymore for saying what they have said when it offended me. It is a great blessing to no longer care what people think about me. Those are their thoughts and thoughts can be changed and outlooks as well. Being an effective communicator requires much more then speaking. It requires an emotional intelligence, speaking and body language. When it comes down to it, I know I can communicate well. I see myself making friends, starting conversations, engaging an audience and understanding social environments. Having “woo” as my number two in my top five strengths made me understand why I can communicate effectively. The “woo” strength gives me the ability to have a good emotional intelligence. I tend to be able to read situations and body language really quick. Which is a good thing because of being able to pick up on those, I can use my “woo” talent to “win” over the audience or help change the mood of the environment. Yet what I have learned is that my “woo” talent cannot be used effectively when I communicate unless I am comfortable and confident in who I am. If I am lacking confidence my “woo” talent comes off as “fake” and “trying too hard to make friends”. Although when I am expressing confidence it comes off as me being a “people, person”. I personally think I communicate well with others and it is not something that I struggle greatly with. This class has helped me further understand the way I communicate and how to communicate even better.

Hope

...Hope is something everyone needs. To be without hope is to have a dismal future. Without hope, there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Hope is something that everyone needs when there is nothing they can do in a seemingly miserable situation. I was placed in this position not too long ago. It was like any other day, I was walking home from school with my siblings. When I entered through the front door, I instantly felt a sense of tension in the air. My mom, older brother, aunt, uncle, and grandparents were all sitting in the living room, with looks of weightiness upon their faces. My mother told me and my little brothers to have a seat next to her. We sat down and she grabbed my hand, then she told me the horrible news. She told us that she had Cervical Cancer. The announcement struck my heart to the core, the tears started to gradually fall from my eyes. Those were the tears of a broken heart. They started flowing until there are no more tears left to express my pain. Once I finally stop crying my mother gave me big hug and looked at me and said everything was going to be okay. From that day on I told myself that would be her rock, and she could depend on me. Months have passed, and I have gone to every surgery and chemotherapy appointment my mother has had. The first month had went by like a breeze, it really did seem like she was going to come out of this healthier than she went in. As the second month started to approach, I started seeing changes in my mom. She...

Hope In America

...According to Google, there are roughly 250,000 words in the English language. Hope, however, is one of the most loaded of them all. Even in the simplest situations, hope is relied on the most: walking to the fridge in the morning in hopes of finding some milk or driving through town hoping that the stop light will be green. Throughout our lives, people ask us what our hopes are for our futures, but honestly, with everything that has been going on in our world recently, it does not look like there is much hope for the future. The history of this country is very important. In order to look forward, citizens need to learn from it and grow into the country that many people see as wonderful by respecting each other, working toward goals, and essentially creating peace....

While There Is Life, There Is Hope

...“There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something tomorrow” (Marden) Hope, is a word used too commonly but not defined very clearly. When people hope on something, they are simply wishing for it to happen. Think of a woman who has been diagnosed with cancer. Her husband has died and her children have moved away. She has no one to care for her so she hopes every day that she will become better, and by doing that it can give her peace of mind and relieve stress. It can let her see a positive outlook in her life, which leads her to eating the right foods, taking her medicine, and exercising more. To her, hope is the small spark when everything else in her world is dark. Hope is driving her to do things and get the best end results on her life. She plans for the worst, but hopes for the best. You will suffer, you will despair, you will cry and you will feel sorrow. It’s unavoidable. But guess what! There is good news, there is Hope. It means that life doesn’t have to be all gloom and doom. Every moment you live is a chance to turn things around, change your perspective, find your focus, achieve your goals, and continue on your mission. All you need is hope. Even if all things seem lost, as long as you have hope, things might just change for the better. Now, it takes more than hope to make a positive impact against your struggles, but hope is the start. “Hope never abandons you; you abandon...

Hope In Laura Hillenbrand's The Awakening

...“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” (QuotesGram). During the darkest moments in someone's life, someone may believe that they have nothing at all. In reality, they only need to have one thing, and that is hope. Louis “Louie” Zamperini was an Olympic runner and World War II veteran. During the war, he was sent out with an unreliable B-24 plane, often referred to as a “Flying Coffin,” in an effort to find missing soldiers, but his plane crashed in the ocean. This launched an unfortunate chain of events that left a permanent dent in his life. He was imprisoned at four Japanese camps during this dark chapter in his life. Instead of giving up, he uses hope and resilience to endure the most difficult...

My Hope Research Paper

...Different people have different hopes and wishes. One might hope to find a close friend, the other may hope to be healthy and still, another might hope for a change in government in the future. In our culture, the term "hope" refers to a wish for something that may happen or may not happen. We can all hope that there will be nothing but good in the world when we wake up tomorrow, but we don't know what is going to actually happen for sure. My hope for the future is for people to focus on acting as if life matters. We, Americans, need to live together in peace. We all need to focus on what really matters instead of the little nonsense. People have fought for our freedom and peace. We should respect all the ones that have stood for our country in uniform and stand behind them with support. As Aesop said, "United we stand, divided we fall."...

The Role Of Hope In The Return Of The King

...Doe Zantamata once said “Don’t fan the flames of despair. Light a spark of hope instead.” In the sensational book The Return of the King, many times do the characters “light a spark of hope” in the hearts of others. And the cool thing is that this can happen in real life, too! Hope, when planted in the right spot, can light a fire in someone's heart propelling them to accomplish their goals. But sometimes, sacrifice can give greater hope than anything else. When my Great-Grandpa was serving in World War I, him and his squad was pinned down by a German MG 08. His leader told the squad to stay put and run when he jumped up to attract the attention of the gunner. He jumped up and saved the mission as the rest of his team crawled away. Sadly,...

Emily Dickinson's Hope Is A Thing With Feathers

...In “Hope is a Thing with Feathers”, using a bird to symbolize hope, Emily Dickinson conveys that hope is always present encouraging people. By describing that hope, a “thing with feathers”, “perches in the soul”, for example, Dickinson implies that since a person can’t detach from their soul, hope always remains in everyone (2). Next, when Dickinson explains that the bird “never stops” “sing[ing]”, by using the bird’s song to represent encouragement, she implies that hope, or the bird, never stops inspiring a person (4). Since it takes an extreme situation, “a sore storm”, to destroy a person's hope or “abash the bird”, Dickinson also implies that generally, hope always remains present (6). Explaining that a person can hear the bird’s song “in the chillest land” and on the “strangest sea” Dickinson, describing the entire surface of the world, thus suggests that everywhere a person goes, hope can boost him or her (9). Lastly, because the bird doesn’t “ask [for] a crumb” in return for its song, Dickinson thus implies that hope asks for nothing in return so therefore anyone can obtain it (12)....

Hope In John Hersey Father Kleinsorge's Hiroshima

...Hope can band all people together to accomplish great or nearly impossible things. Humans have been around for thousands and millions of years and we have been through painful and tough times. But were still here millions and millions of years later. Its hope that saves us, its hope that makes us who we are. In the book Hiroshima by John Hersey Father Kleinsorge states “please god help me to cross safely…said father Kleinsorge as he aged a few more strokes and carried the wounded across his back. “ (Hersey 75) This shows that Father Kleinsorge knows that there is little hope for those heavily injured but proceeds with carrying them. Even though there is little chance that everyone one will survive they watch out for one another and prosper...

...L10 9R5 18th June 1865 Dearest Walter, I’m writing to you today with a cup of tea by my side to let you know that I am safe in London. I do not want to discuss much about myself, likewise what I am doing; I want to discuss how Laura is. After I had the message about my letter being delivered to Laura and her not wanting to respond, I felt I ought to write to you. Hearing nothing after I have sent every one of those letters leaves me in the dark. I hope Walter, to not patronise you with this letter nevertheless I feel as though I have to get someone to articulate to Laura that I’m well. Her natural sensitiveness makes me hesitate to write to Laura once more. I do hope that she will find enough courage to compose me back a letter as not only does she needs to know I’m adequate; I need her to certify the same. By Laura not replying I hope I have not misunderstood her silence in thinking she is infuriated with me. I miss her writing to me, of her own thoughts and impressions, amid all the wonders she has seen. I hope you can comprehend my reasoning for leaving you and Laura. I realise it was a selfish act. Walter, as I write this letter to you and my darling sister; I think of Laura sobbing which seems to tear me to pieces. You realise Walter my tears are like mens for they do not flow as easily as they ought. Health

...Coping with events Numerous people appear to be quite resilient to significant stress struggles that may possess an orientation to events that are resistant to such threats. We propose that one significant aspect of this orientation is the tendency to view adversities as something that can happen to anyone and is reflected in the tendency of people entering uncertain contexts to prepare by imagining a range of possible outcomes. Positive psychology represents a branch of psychological science concerned with understanding the development of well-being, virtue and resilience. One standpoint is that wellbeing, virtue and resilience are achieved by complex strivings that are not attributable simply to being optimistic. Meaning focusing on the positive, expressing positive emotions and leaving the negative behind. This does not mean that there are no negative thoughts or emotions but rather that it plays an important role in health, wellbeing and personal growth ( Davis, Asliturk). 1. Build Positive Beliefs in Your Abilities Research has demonstrated that self-esteem plays an important role in coping with stress and recovering from difficult events. Boxer In George Orwell's Animal Farm

...Hope is represented by many iconic characters in literature throughout history. One of the paramount exemplifications of hope in literature is Boxer, a strong and hard-working horse that plays a crucial role in providing for the farm. However, Boxer’s unwavering trust in Napoleon, and Napoleon feeling threatened by Boxer, leads to Boxer’s demise and alternate climax of the allegory. Boxer is a very important animal on the farm that is the setting of Orwell’s allegory. He acts as the pillar that holds the farm and keeps it from collapsing into poverty and starvation. Because Boxer is physically stronger than the other animals, he bears the brunt of the physical labor on the farm. Every animal on the farm considers Boxer to be their most vital labor worker, especially during the building of the first windmill. Though Boxer’s health throughout the story is waning, many animals still take advantage of his devotion to the farm and Napoleon. Though Boxer is physically superior to all other animals on the far, he is very ignorant to the corrupt ways of Napoleon and the pigs. Boxer...
