What are today’s hot topics in procurement that are mostly shared/discussed on the Internet and on social media sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, etc.? Introduction
“The procurement function is constantly evolving, with many organisations going through significant transformations over the past decade. Now more than ever, there is a considerable emphasis on the integration phase and the focus has shifted to delivering the value proposition through collaboration and partnerships.” (http://www.procurementleaders.com/forum-zurich)
Financial crises have been troubling our economies and it seems that every new crisis has a bigger impact than the one before. As a result, top management is looking more and more towards procurement with the goal to improve their bottom line. But lately procurement has shifted from strictly operational to a more strategic function. Hot topics are not only low cost sourcing, but also supplier integration to become more innovative, procurement technology’s contribution towards profitability and growth, and how social media affects talent management (http://spendmatters.com/uk/procurement-hot-topics-agenda-2014-part-2/).

However, the measurement of procurement contribution is often a very sensitive subject.
There are no clear boundaries between the various functions involved and thus tensions are bound to occur when it comes to target savings per function at the end of the year. Among today’s hot topics is also the identification of effective processes for managing supply chain risks and corporate social responsibility. Many organisations have their CSR statements but good intentions

...Assessment 1 Develop workplace sustainability Questions What are the sustainability issues? Unsustainable activities have led to changes in our environment, or have been identified as having the potential to lead to future changes. The types of changes that are occurring or are predicted to occur form the key issues for sustainability. The following Table 1 provides a summary of the key issues. They are related to changes to the physical and cultural (being the way we live) environments, which in turn relate to the economic environment. What does sustainability mean? Every day we hear the term ‘sustainable’ or ‘sustainability’ being used to describe a large number of issues and news items. There is the ‘sustainable economy’, ‘sustainable agriculture’, ‘economically sustainable’, ‘the need to be sustainable’, ‘sustainable work practices’ and ‘sustainable water supply’ to name a few. The Brundtland Report, Our Common Future, is seen by many as one of the first global reports to address sustainable development. This report defined sustainable development as: “…development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Brundtland (1987) National strategy for ecologically sustainable development Sustainable Development is defined by the Australian Government’s National Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development as: “…using, conserving and enhancing the community’s......

Mas Business Transformation Plan

...Five Star Value Carrier: Business Transformation Plan (BTP 2) Disclaimer This Business Transformation Plan (BTP 2) document is issued to staff and external stakeholders with the following disclaimer in line with Bursa Malaysia guidelines: 1. These headline Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the BTP 2 are targets/aspirations set by Malaysia Airlines to reflect transparent performance management practices. To all intents and purposes, financial figures referred to as ‘forecasts’ and ‘estimates’ in the BTP 2 are KPIs. 2. These KPIs should not be construed as forecasts, projections, estimates or representations of the company’s future performance, occurrence or matter as the KPls are merely a set of targets/aspirations of future performance and aligned to the company’s strategy. It is our view that because the airline industry faces a tough business environment which MAS is not spared from, it is only appropriate that we disclose information to the public, in a manner that is as balanced and objective as possible. It should be pointed out that in this BTP 2 document, while MAS is announcing its 5-year (2008 - 2012) P&L aspirations, this does not necessarily mean that MAS will make the said profits during the period. The BTP 2 and its targets have been approved by the MAS Board of Directors, but are not to be considered as forecasts reviewed by external auditors. Leadership Development - Doe

...Leadership Development Seminars and ECQ-based Readings The success or failure of any endeavor depends on leadership. Now, more than ever before, we need leaders in our organizations and in our world. Great leaders create and communicate a vision and move people into action to achieve it. They ignite our passion and inspire us to do our best. Government leaders in the 21st century are experiencing change at a more rapid pace than previous generations. Rapid advances in technology have expanded the quantity of work we are capable of accomplishing, and also where it’s accomplished. We have a more highly educated workforce, yet face diminishing resources with an increased demand for productivity, and the essential services we provide to the American public. To be successful at navigating these challenges leaders must develop the essential skills to motivate their employees, effectively communicate with others, fine-tune critical thinking skills, and build and leverage partnerships. Future leaders must also be visionary; i.e., possess the ability to identify trends and the courage to be innovative. Being technically adept in your field will no longer be enough. In response to these demands on senior executives, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management identified five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) that all aspiring government leaders and executives must possess. These ECQs and Fundamental Competencies were developed by OPM after extensive research on the attributes...
