How Did John Proctor Use Tribulations In The Crucible

In life, we find ourselves and find our purpose of living in this Earth. We have to go through tribulations to find who we are. John Proctor is the same, he went through tribulations first to find who he saw himself to be. Even at older age, he still went through changes mentally and that also showed another part of who he was. In The Crucible, John Proctor felt hypocritical because he was hiding his affair with Abigail,(CITE) but at the end of the story he was able to be who he wanted to be.
John was someone who was proud of himself. He was just an average man with a house, a farm, a wife, and had three sons. His name was popular around the court because he was the type to speak his mind. He not only was proud of himself, but respected himself. All of that stopped when he had an affair with Abigail Williams. All of that respect for himself and his …show more content…
In that time, that was one of the worst things you could do. We’re already seeing that drastic change from Procter just in the beginning of the story. He had a good life, messed up, and is now trying to get himself out of that hole. We don’t really see John do anything in the first two acts, but in Act 3(CITE) is when his changes starts to show. His wife gets accused and is locked up making him get fired up. He loquaciously defended his wife and the people of Salem who were accused.He was willing to sacrifice his own life and reputation because of his guilt. (CITE) John Proctor’s growing guilt turned into his tragic hero demise. This is what made his character so memorable. His dire need to have a clean conscience changed his character for the best. Instead of hiding his guilt, he told the Salem court information vital for the witch's salvation.
