In 1630s a group of English Puritans led by John Winthrop departed from all over Europe and set sail for America landed north than what they intended, and founded the “Massachusetts Bay Colony”
Native American population across the New England region decreased due to disease from foreigners.
The Massachusetts Bay Colony observed that the land around them was empty, they founded 6 towns in the area including Roxbury.
The area was originally a salt marsh but was later filled in.
