Aubrey “Drake” Graham

Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He most knowingly goes by his middle name of Drake. His parents are Sandi and Dennis Graham. At the age of five, his parents divorced. Drake was then raised by his mother in Canada and would sometimes spend the summers in Memphis with his father. Drake attended a Jewish Day School but as time went on, Drake ended up dropping out of high school but later finished in 2012. Drake has seen many experiences in his life and some he said were very life changing. One life changing event includes of when he his own father, Dennis, being taken away for jail time and he had to see his father get taken. Drake states that since his father had been taken away, it made him learn that he needed to grow up fast and be the solid, supportive backbone for his mother. At the age of 24, Drake makes this comment explaining his life changes he has experienced, "I've seen a lot, man. I've seen a lot of life, put it that way. I've been with the most blessed kids in the world. I've been with people whose life is right at the bottom of the barrel. I was on a TV show, I went to art school, I went to hood schools. I've lived. I've lived a full 24 years, man.” Drake is now 29. In the year of 2001, Drakes life was about to make a big change and he had no idea what was coming. A classmate of Drake’s had a father who was an agent. The father told his son that if anyone was funny, the needed to audition for him. No one at the time realized it but, this man would eventually become Drakes agent. Shortly after the audition, Drake got a star roll as “Jimmy Brooks” who later doubled into “Wheelchair Jimmy” on the hit television show “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” He was on this hit TV series until 2009 when “Jimmy” graduated from high school. Drake also stared in shows such as “Soul Food", "Conviction", "Best Friend's Date", "The Borders", "Sophie" and "Being Erica". Age ten, Drake started to write his own music in hopes to become successful in the music industry. Drake had no idea that in the year 2009, his dreams would become true. His most influential people in his music career were Kanye West, Jay-Z, Aaliyah and his mentor Lil Wayne. In an interview, Drake stated that R&B singer Aaliyah has had the biggest influence on his musical career. Since Drake could not stay out of trying to get big in the music industry, such motivation lead to him dropping his first mix tape “Room for Improvement” in 2006. During this time he was still on Degrassi and although his mix tape had almost 6,000 copies downloaded, things were still not taking off. Nevertheless in 2008, Drake got a phone call from big rap star Lil Wayne asking Drake to board a plane to Houston, Texas and join him on his current tour. In 2009, Drake released his third mix tape, “So Far Gone” which had one of his most famous hit songs of “Best I Ever Had.” Mid-2009 Drake finally had linked a record deal with Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment. In 2010, Drake released his very first album called “Thank Me Later” which reached Number One album in both the US and Canada. His number one album stretched to such significance and became a certified platinum cover. The following year Drake dropped his second album called “Take Care” which included hit songs of “The Motto” and “Headlines.” His second album met with the wide acclaim, winning him a Grammy Award in 2013 for the best rap album, among several other awards. Drake’s music career continues to grow as the years go on. He just recently released an album entitled “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” and also released an album with rapper Future. Drake also has two very famous recent songs of “Hot Line Bling” and “Back to Back.”

...was still just about the closest thing to a friend that Clayton had in the department, and he had to admit that Moore had a way of telling those crotch-biting stories that made Clayton double over in laughter. And Moore would definitely have appreciated the little skinny-dipping party Clayton had just broken up, when he'd spied a couple of coeds sunning down by the creek in all their morning glory. He hadn't been there for more than a few minutes and had snapped only a couple of pictures on the digital camera when he saw a third girl pop up from behind a hydrangea bush. After quickly ditching the camera in the bushes behind him, he'd stepped out from behind the tree, and a moment later, he and the coed were face-to-face. Well, what have we got here?" he drawled, trying to put her on the defensive. He hadn't liked the fact that he'd been caught, nor was he...

Tank Man

...Leonte Degraffenreid October 15, 2013 Engl 111 Professor Drake Tank Man On June 5, 1989 an unknown man from Beijing stood in front of a column of military tanks. This was the day the Chinese military had suppressed the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 by force. This photograph was taken by Jeff Widener of the Associated Press. This picture is considered one of the iconic images of the 20th century. But there has been a repurposed image of the tank man that has yellow ducks instead of military tanks. The rubber duck has become very popular in Hong Kong Harbor. The author of this photo is unknown. It was published on June 5, 2013 on the Chinese micro blogging website Weibo, and has received so much attention that Chinese authorities have banned the term “big yellow duck”. What has not been told is that the government in china still does everything to keep the event in mystery, pretending it never happened. Looking at both of these pictures there has been a meaning change to the photo “Tank Man” because there was a switch of military tanks and rubber ducks. In both photo there is similarities and differences. In the Jeff Wiedener Photo “Tank Man”, there is a man who was protesting at Tiananmen Square while the military where going down the street. This unknown man, some saying his name is Wang Weilin, walked in the middle of the street and stopped in front of a line of military tanks. In a result of that these tanks had stop and tried to move around him and he wasn’t...

Influential Materialism on Cambodian Society

...Introduction One of the remarkable transitions in Cambodia began in 1993. It was the economic reform switching from planned-economic to open-free economic market. Since ever, Cambodia gradually boosts the national economy by allowing private possessions and foreign investment. This is a signal of democracy in the nation. To be a democratic country, such rights and freedom must be given to the masses. It is well-known that people want to be equal before the laws and live in a happy life. However, one barrier to newly democratic country—Cambodia—is the citizens. More than half of the Cambodian population is under a poverty line, meaning they are insufficient not only in property but also in education. This situation is not good enough for Cambodians to get influence from the world. Being connected with globalization, Cambodia demands a higher standard and a good quality of production. Among those marketing competition, the most attractive and popular product is high-tech materials. Again, the other half of population might be able to afford such materials in order to live in the society. The society is affected by materialism, which considers possessions more important than values, and its effects range from psychological to economic. Materialism is sometimes used as a status symbol, causing people to purchase items they cannot afford, simply to fit in with an affluent crowd, or to keep up with the people around them. Materialism, although a motivating force in today's world...

I had just arrived home from a work out with the football team and my dad was calling my name. I ran up the stairs. He handed me the phone and said it was Brian Sipe, the Hall of Fame quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and my old high school football coach. After Coach Sipe coaching at my high school he became the quarterback coach and recruiting coordinator at San Diego State University. Curiously, I answered the phone and said, “Hello? Coach Sipe”. It was quiet for a second or two before I heard, “Hey, Brenton this is Coach Sipe with San Diego State, I wanted to be he first to let you know that we as a coaching staff have decided to offer you a fifty percent scholarship to play football here and if you perform will raise it to a full scholarship”. I was in shock, stunned that I just got offered. Coach Sipe then said, “I will send you the official letter and you can talk it over with your parents. Have a good day”. “Click” he was gone. I stood there in that spot looking at my dad expecting that he already knew, but my dad kept pushing saying “what did he say, what did Coach Sipe say” I told him that Coach Sipe had just offered me a scholarship and that the official letter is in the mail. At this point I had been the first football player on my team to be offered a scholarship, but it meant so much more than that. When I was...

Cruel Labor

...Factory Workers and Prostitutes. Tristan wrote this article in order to expose the cruelties suffered by industrial workers, women, and slaves, during the Industrial Revolution. It would be an injustice to Tristan if I paraphrase her shocking description of the life of the factory worker, so I’ll quote her directly. “Most of the workers lack clothing, a bed, furniture, a fire, wholesome food, and often even potatoes! They are shut up twelve to fourteen hours a day in mean rooms where they breathe in, along with foul air, cotton, wool, and linen fibers, particles of copper, lead, iron, etc., and frequently go from insufficient nourishment to excessive drinking.” (2) After hearing this description, it’s no wonder why these workers frequently got sick and acquired diseases. The way these poor people lived is mindboggling, and to think, these conditions weren’t only limited to adults, even children as young as six years old...

Attachment Theory

...Attachment, in dictionary terms, means affection, fondness, or sympathy for someone or something. In psychotherapy, attachment theory refers to how those attachments impact human interpersonal relations. Attachment theory was first conceptualised by John Bowlby, a psychoanalyst who dedicated his time to studying the affectional bonds which form between a child and his primary caregiver. In Segal and Jaffe (2013), the affectional bond is simply but realistically defined as one's first love relationship. Bowlby referred to attachment as a lasting psychological connectedness between human beings. This bond is initially formed by the first attachment figure a person comes across in life. This is in most cases is the mother. In other situations, it may be a father, or where a child is orphaned or put in foster care, it could vary. It refers to anyone who remains in a central role in a child's life for at least the first three to five years. This period is crucial because it is when a child's brain rapidly develops. Bowlby (1984) says that attachment behaviour is most active and overt before the age of three but the need for attachment figures remains throughout life. Bretherton (1985) found that after three, it is less frequent and noticeable as the child gains increased abilities to protect itself and coping skills. Attachment behaviour is however more noticeable during times of exceptional stress. According to Segal and Jaffe (2013), an attachment bond shapes an infant's brain...
