How Good Do I Have to Look? How many times people looked in the mirror and wanted to change the way they look? Many people are not satisfied with how they look and want to change their appearance constantly. The reason behind this unsatisfied feeling is because of our society’s obsession with physical appearance. From a very young age, people are being forced to look in a certain way, and to be judged according certain standards in order to be defined beautiful. The obsession of beauty has brought a huge transformation in people’s perspective about their appearance, and made people become more concern about their outer beauty than anything else. During history the standards of beauty had changed significantly and people have altered the concept of “beautiful”. The word beautiful does not hold one concept anymore. The definition of beauty is changing according to what the society preserve as beautiful and attractive. People have hopped from one side of spectrum to another in terms of beauty. For instant, in ancient Egypt, Cleopatra was considered as amazingly beautiful queen, but with today’s standards she would be known as unattractive women for her large nose. Women in the 1900 used to look curvy in order for them to be defined “beautiful”. However today, the idol look for women’s body is to be very thin and tall – Model fashionable body-. The standards of these traits have changed through history according to what was the trend with that time. Today’s people’s perspective toward beauty have changed. There are many ways in which people encounter their expectations for the idol image of beauty. There is no doubt that time changes and so is the trends, but when that change turns into an obsession , people will lose the real meaning of what beautiful look like. In contrast with the standards of a beauty- obsessed society, many people are choosing to go under knife for an attractive body features and enthralling physical appearance. People’s fixation is dragging them to the extreme by trying plastic surgeries to drastically change their entire look. Thousands of harmful methods are being used to help women acquire what they thought was the perfect body image. The fact of plastic surgeries has been forced more towards women, but later on, men become targeted as well. Now a days, people are spending thousands of dollars on plastic surgeries to look like celebrities. From Botox injections to lips filler to Liposuction and Breast augmentation. Women can go to her doctor and ask him to transform her into Kim Kardashian, or a man into Justin Bieber. Plastic surgeries is incontrovertibly expensive and takes a very long time for recovery. People are willing to spend their life savings and suffer the unpredictable consequence of the surgery in order to look like someone they don’t even know in person. This is not it, plastic surgeries is going way out of normal. You can ask your cosmetic doctor to make you look like Shrek, lizard, demon and many idiotic looks. The definitions of beauty is poorly deformed and people are unconsciously dragging themselves toward this disfiguration.

Looks vs Academic Qualification

...INTRODUCTION: Two friends were going for an interview board in a call centre company. Both of them were well dressed up and did everything they could to give a best presentation in the interview board in front of the officials. Of the two friends one had a very good CGPA and the other was ranked average. The one with good CGPA also had little previous experience in the related kind of jobs but the other friend was a novice. So, taking the best preparation for the interview both the friends faced the interview board. Both of them did well in the interview. But when the results were out, the novice friend with an average CGPA got the job but the other friend did not did not get the job. Here I want to raise my point “looks” does it really matter in professional life? Now from the above story line if any one comes to the conclusion that good looks get more priority than academic qualifications in professional life, he or she is just coming to the conclusion in a superficial manner. On the other hand you can’t also assume that success only depends on academic qualification because it is a very controversial topic and many believe that success never depends upon only good grades. There point of view is that if success and opportunities were measured by grades then the corporate world would not ask for bio-data in resumes, where other qualifications are also mentioned. Nor would they interview the prospects in order to find out what they are like as people, rather they would give...

Personal Interview

...knowing how to say it is the only way I believe that you can be a potential higher for a company. The information that I have shared with you in my presentation is purely informative, I show you how you can be a great interviewee and get the job done when you’re being interviewed. I chose this way to show my college students how to prepare for an interview because I didn’t believe that making persuasive presentation will reach college students. I have learned over the years that telling a college student what to do usually doesn’t work, but if you show them what they have to do to be successful than that always works. Using an informative presentation shows the college students steps in being a great interviewee and it also gets them prepared of what to expect in an interview. I believe that informative ways of showing how to interview better prepares someone for the future. It also prepares for what to expect in an interview. When most companies usually has someone doing interviews one on one, some might see how you react in a different setting. Most companies now days have you come in two or three times before they hire you so you always have to prepare for that also. They might put you through a scenario that will get you involved with other people from the company just to see how well you work with others. They want to see how you communicate with the other people and how you can overcome an obstacle that involves other people with you. They want to see how you adapt...

My Philosophy

...My Philosophy I may not have been in this world very long, but in the 18 years I have been here I have learned and been through many things that have dramatically changed my life. Most of those things were life-altering events that really made me question everything about myself. I learned how to deal with those events and to look at the positive in them. Everyone deals with obstacles or barriers in life but the thing is how does one overcome them and learn from them? My philosophy deals with the things thrown at us and how we react to them for the better of ourselves. Family Now the obstacles I’ve dealt with involve my family. Let me give you an overall consensus of how we act; whenever something doesn’t go how we want it and/or we disagree with someone we blow up. Now looking at that, you wouldn’t think we would deal with serious events in a positive way, well you’re wrong. In the past 2 years on my mom side we lost my aunt to breast cancer, and grandma to a severe blood clot; then I personally dealt with the loss of my dad due to liver failure. During those multiple losses we didn’t drift apart due to not knowing how to act; we came together and helped support each other mentally and emotionally. We may not have dealt with them the right way but we dealt with them how we saw fit by just letting our emotions out and talking about how we felt. Another way I know I dealt with them is to look back on the positive memories and then physically I used my crafting and art skills...

Pressure on Young Women

...today there seems to be enormous pressure to be beyond perfect. Why as a society do we place these kinds of pressures on our children? A good example is the story “For Girls, It’s Be Yourself, and Be Perfect, Too” by Sara Rimer. It focuses on two amazing teen girls Esther and Colby who have to face many issues that many young women today have to confront now as well as the stress it entails. Esther and Colby learn right from the start that they have to be perfect during every waking hour and not waste anytime. The girl’s lives are influenced by their parent’s desires and the opinions of their peers. They don’t even think of themselves. Today’s amazing girls are facing pressure from their parents, as well as images they see on T.V., in magazines, as well as everywhere they look. Society pressures young women to be smart, sexy, and athletic. Sara Rimer writes; “If you are free to be everything, you are also expected to be everything” (page 2). At one time young women were viewed as the lesser sex; and were expected to become obedient wives and good mothers. They weren’t expected to go to or even complete their schooling. It was viewed as a waste of time. As time passed women started to become able to receive an education, vote, and have a job outside of the home. Society then started expecting more out of young women. The young women today have to become the amazing girl’s in order to do what their family and society expect from them. As in the story with Esther and...

It was 11 grand over budget. M: Oh come on, that’s nothing. You know that’s nothing. That’s a drop in the bucket to these people. P: But they were upset about it. Lesson One

...1-1 Do you like to spend time by yourself? When I was in middle school and high school, I got the impression that being alone meant you were a social outcast. At lunch, for example, only the "losers" or "nerds" ate alone; if you were surrounded by friends, you were popular. As a result, I was always anxious about being alone. Like a lot of young people, I worried about having enough friends and going out on the weekends instead of staying home like a "loner." I have to admit, though, that I spent more weekends at home than I did out on the town with my friends. As I've grown older, though, I think I've come to appreciate more and more having some time to be alone. Maybe it's the constant noise and demands of three children that helps me appreciate some quiet time to myself. In fact, some of my favorite time during the day is the time I spend driving to and from work (I live about twenty minutes from where I work). I often listen to the radio, so I don't know if I'm technically alone, but it's time where I can think and reflect on things that have happened during the day. It's often during this time that I have some of my best ideas, too. If we ought to be familiar with anyone, it should be ourselves. And spending time alone can help us come to know ourselves better. In this lesson, you will read some pieces that show the authors learning about themselves. You will see through the readings how the experiences we go through often teach us things about ourselves that we didn't...

Glancing vs Staring

...Let me be clear that the fact that men are visually drawn to women does not make it okay to engage in lustful looks. It is not a wise practice for any man who wants to protect his marriage, and in many cases it can be an issue of sin. Jesus said that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:27-28). So while your husband is likely being honest when he says he has no intention of doing anything beyond looking, the act of looking can still be a problem, especially if he is replaying it in his mind later. Not only that, but in his situation he is not even trying to be discreet about it when you’re around, and that is cause for concern. If he freely looks when you are with him, how bold is he when you are not present? 1) Whenever we go anywhere, could be a reception, stores, etc ( basicly anywhere there are other people) he looks/stare at girls/women.. I have been married for 8 years and been talking to him about this ever since. I have asked him several times not to do it, that it bothers me. He says he likes to look, that everyone is different. The next time I caught him staring, I told him you can stare all you want when I am not there, just don't do it infront of me, .. I sometime ignore him but not all the time... it really hurts me.. For eg. we were doing grocery shopping the other day when he saw this girl and he looked/stare at her, its like she had a magnet on her body.. He couldn't help looking.. He is looking at...

I thought happiness started with an H. Why does mine start with U? I seem to have lost my phone number. Can I have yours? Hey baby, you must be a light switch, cuz every time I see you, you turn me on! Are you a camera? Because every time I look at you, I smile. For a moment I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Now I see that I am very much alive, and heaven has been brought to me. Do you know what my shirt is made of? Boyfriend material. Did you sit in a pile of sugar? Cause you have a pretty sweet ass. Norms

...I am doing my race and ethnicity on black people and Asian people, and how other people out in the world make them feel and the things other races say about them behind their back. I’m also going to talk about the ethnicity of the two races and how each of them live and the things they love to do the most and tell you if the stereotype is good or not. The way a lot of people in this world look at blacks is that they are cocky and think no one and can tell them anything. They also say that they all look like they are thugs and that they always walk round looking mad and they say all of them are good at sports. As for Asian people they say that they can’t drive or play sports. Another thing about Asians is that everyone thinks that they are smart and another is that they all look the same. So to me they are teaching other groups to think that they are no good and only good for one thing and it’s showing the other groups do not be like this it’s the wrong way to go about life. The message that it’s showing is that it’s not helping the two groups but they are really hurting the two groups and by doing that they are keeping the two down by talking about them. Stereotypes keep circulating and there seems to be little change. When people do not take the time to get to truly know people of a certain race, they are building up the stereotype, but when they get to know people they start to break down the stereotypes. Let’s look at the first stereotype for Asians. The stereotype...

After 14 months of in depth research to verify the authenticity of the statue, the Getty determined that it was authentic and went ahead with the purchase. That was until one...

Perception of Beauty

...THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY Why do we feel pressured to look good? What difference does it actually make? Marie Claire delves into the subject to find the real reason behind why we crave ‘pretty.’ “Poison them, drown them, bash them on the head. Got any chloroform? I don't care how you kill the little beasts. Just do it, and do it now!” barks the wretched Cruella De Vil, one of the most hated women in the history of imaginary evil characters. How did she garner so much hatred – was it only because she was an evil dog-hater? We feel it was necessary for author Dodie Smith to garnish her personality with a good dose of hate symbols – an angered heart, unkempt hair and a haggard face. How could we possibly justify hating a pretty damsel-in-distress even if she can’t do without coats that come from Dalmatian puppies? Perceptions about good and bad have been played around with since ancient Grecian times. What is interesting about these perceptions is that they are almost always correlated to the way you look. The good girls of the golden, silver and bronze screens have to not only look good, but also have perfect hair and skin. On the contrary, the vamp cannot be a vamp without jarring facial expressions that are further exaggerated by trashy makeup. Inception So what are these projections trying to tell us? Are they saying that beautiful is good and ugly is bad? Dr. Rachna Khanna Singh, Lifestyle expert cum Psychologist, Artemis Hospital thinks that this comes from an age...

...Being a teen myself means I understand the stress most teens are going through. Grades need to be higher, you worry about how you look, get criticized , and many more things that happen in life. Even so, have you ever wondered if the Lord knows what we are really going through? Please read Isaiah 40 :28-31 with me. It states “ Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yewah is the everlasting God, the creator of the whole earth. He never grows faint or weary, there is no limit to His understanding. He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Youths may faint and grow weary and young men may fall, but those who who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like Eagles ; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” This states that if we trust in God he will be understanding and help us grow strength in our bodies through the trials of high school and middle school.
