The purpose of this paper is to discus four questions from our textbook case “How personal Can Ethics Get”.
Q1. Discuss how personal differences and preference can impact organizational ethics. Ethics involve identifying, differentiating, and defending concepts of right and wrong, and what values humanity retains from ethical growth and development. On a daily basis people are making decisions. People face situations where they must make what they believe is the “right” decision. However, when it comes to ethical faced with ethical dilemmas, people believe that there are “right” and “wrong” choices. Coincidently, people make different choices in accordance with their personal ethical values. In an organization personal differences and preference can hinder the mission of an organization if these differences and preferences have hidden agenda’s or have selfish motives. It’s important to consider that many people view ethics from different perspectives. Most are influenced by character, obligation, results, or equity. The different approaches between these styles could possibly translate to friction between people. For example, a person that does things based on obligation may think he/she is behaving ethically, but on the inside they are behaving unethically and if no one points it out then they will continue to think they are behaving ethically. People who are results oriented tend to look at benefit vs. cost, and consequently, their decisions may be perceived as unethical when in fact their decisions are ethical. As a leader within any organization it’s important to look at what is a greater good for an organization or a society as a whole.

Personal difference and preference is one’s own way of how they think or how they feel about someone or something. Organizational ethics is the understanding of values of how an organization can integrate morals and main beliefs that differentiate right from wrong in the organization.
