College Education Is Important

...College Education Is Important LeAnna Christian English Composition I Professor Swick September 8, 2012 Ever since I started kindergarten, education has been very important in my family. Although I was learning simple things, such as my numbers, letters, and learning how to read, it was still important. Now that I am older and am in college, I am realizing how important even the little things about education are. Without a foundation in education, I would not be where I am today. In order to be successful, education has to be very important in a person’s life. Since the day that I was born, my family has been preaching to me how important an education is. I did not believe them at first, but now, I definitely believe them. First came elementary. Second came middle school. Finally, high school hit. High school was a lot tougher than elementary and middle school. Then, on the final day of high school, as I was walking across the stage to receive my diploma, it hit me “like a ton of bricks.” I would be starting college soon. I did not know what to think. College seemed like a scary thing to me at that point. Here I was just graduating from high school and now I had to continue on to get more education? I thought that what I had already gone through for those previous fourteen years was enough, but apparently it was not. My whole family then started preaching to me about going to college. They would say things like “getting a college education is very important” and...

Parents begin to pass on their own values system and this is what a person’s responsibility foundation is built on. In order for a student to be successful in their college career they must already have been taught personal responsibility throughout their childhood. Children should be given household chores at a very young age, like picking up their toys, making their beds, and even feeding the family pet, at this age they are exposed to the family values at its core. Children begin to realize what responsibility is through these chores. Experts believe that any type of household responsibilities, are important for kids (Dunnewind, 2004). Personal Responsibility

...| It Is My Responsibility To Be A College Success | What I Need To Do To Achieve Success As A College Student | | | There is a correlation between personal responsibility and college success because a student has to be willing to put forth the effort required to achieve a successful college career, develop relationships with instructors, and choose what type of success they want to have throughout their college profession. | When thinking about the phrase, personal responsibility, several different definitions come to my mind. It means taking accountability for my own welfare. Personal responsibility can signify that I am responsible for the choices that I make in my life. I can go on and on about different ways that this phrase can be interpreted. However, I think it would be best if I began by breaking down the phrase into two parts, and deciphering each word. Let us start with the word, personal. Merriam-Webster defines personal, in its adjective form, as “done in person without the intervention of another”. The word, responsibility means “the state at which one is held accountable for one’s conduct and obligations”. [ (Encyclopedia Britannica Company, 2012) ] If we were to take both of these definitions and combine them, you would get my definition of personal responsibility. A person demonstrates personal responsibility when s/he is liable for any actions that they perform, and any choices that they choose to make. This definition not only places responsibility...

Though many people think a college education is worthless now, there are two sides to the argument. The Christian Science Monitor Editorial Board, Davis Leonhardt, John Stossel, and Marty Nemko all wrote articles based on what they feel a current college education is worth. Yes, college is an investment and by going to college it leads to becoming more successful in life, but what they left out was that there is more to the equation. The other factors to the equation includes, what it I am going to school for, an economy of high unemployment rates, students debts, and most importantly the competition one will face in order to get that particular job. Entrepreneur leading Uncollege Dale Stephens in is article “College is a waste of time” for his special on CNN examines that with life experience, creativity, internet tools, college degrees are “unnecessary”.
