Cleaning out your Desktop PC

So it’s 94 degrees outside, 98 degrees in your room, you’re trying to get your speech typed up with Microsoft word, and all of a sudden your screen gets fuzzy and your computer shuts down. You smell smoke, like something’s burning. You got it, that 800.00 computer just went up in smoke, and you just lost 3 hours of work. I run a computer repair business out of my home, and this is what happens all too often when too much dust and debris builds up inside your computer tower. Believe me, computers are dust and hair magnets! In the next few minutes I’m going to show you a fast, inexpensive way to prevent this from happening to you, and help your computer run faster and cooler, and also live longer. First go to your local department store or hardware and purchase a can of compressed air. (Usually around 5.00) This will last for a few cleanings so therefore very inexpensive considering. Second unplug your tower from the wall, as well as all the cables going to the back of your computer, taking care to remember where they all go! Next, locate the removable side panel. This is usually removed by screws or clips. Once the side panel is removed you’re ready to begin. Looking inside your tower, you will notice a fan on top of some cooling fins. This is the processor, and usually packed with dust. Insert the red nozzle into you can of air, and using short bursts of air, and holding the can about 3-4 inches away, try to direct your bursts of air into the cooling fins. You should notice large amounts of dust flying out. After cleaning these fins, look around inside the case for any other cooling fans and repeat this process. Next look for the power supply unit, usually located at the top rear of the tower. Try blowing some air threw the vents, remembering always to use short bursts of air.
