General FAQ
Q. What is a wireless LAN controller (WLC)?
A. Wireless networks have become a necessity today. Many corporate environments require deployment of wireless networks on a large scale. Cisco has come up with the concept of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) solution, which helps make it easier to manage such large scale deployments. WLC is a device that assumes a central role in the CUWN. Traditional roles of access points, such as association or authentication of wireless clients, are done by the WLC. Access points, called Lightweight Access Points (LAPs) in the unified environment, register themselves with a WLC and tunnel all the management and data packets to the WLCs, which then switch the packets between wireless clients and the wired portion of the network. All the configurations are done on the WLC. LAPs download the entire configuration from WLCs and act as a wireless interface to the clients. For more information on how a LAP registers with a WLC, refer to the document Lightweight AP (LAP) Registration to a Wireless LAN Controller.
Q. What is CAPWAP?
A. In controller software release 5.2 or later, Cisco lightweight access points use the IETF standard Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points protocol (CAPWAP) in order to communicate between the controller and other lightweight access points on the network. Controller software releases prior to 5.2 use the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) for these communications.
CAPWAP, which is based on LWAPP, is a standard, interoperable protocol that enables a controller to manage a collection of wireless access points. CAPWAP is being implemented in controller software release 5.2 for these reasons: * To provide an upgrade path from Cisco products that use LWAPP to next-generation Cisco products that use CAPWAP * To manage RFID readers and similar devices * To enable

...October, 2012 The purpose of this paper is to discuss installing an access control system (ACS) in a dormitory. The ACS will automatically unlock the dormitory doors via an electronic proximity reader and integrate with an existing security camera system.  The cameras are designed to face and rotate to record a person as they use their identification card to unlock the door. Project Title: Install Access Control System in Hall of TC CARRINGTON dormitory Project Justification: To increase the security and integrity of dormitory access at Southern Maryland Community College, one dormitory has been set up as a test site for the newly access control system (ACS). According to Germain (2011), an “access control system allows you to monitor when people enter and exit access control systems help to keep unauthorized people out, while providing flawless access to those who are authorized to be there” (para. 1). Project Scope: Install entry access system to dormitory using current security system. Project Deliverables: Scope Statement: The purpose of this project is to install an ACS in the Hall of TC CARRINGTON dormitory on the campus of Southern Maryland Community College located at 1010 Anywhere Ln, Waldorf MD, 20000. The ACS will automatically unlock the dormitory doors via an electronic proximity reader. The electronic proximity readers will be located at the front and east side entrance to the building. Dns Role Server

...DNS Server Role Updated: January 21, 2008 Domain Name System (DNS) is a system for naming computers and network services that is organized into a hierarchy of domains. TCP/IP networks, such as the Internet, use DNS to locate computers and services through user-friendly names. To make using network resources easier, name systems such as DNS provide a way to map the user-friendly name for a computer or service to other information that is associated with that name, such as an IP address. A user-friendly name is easier to learn and remember than the numeric addresses that computers use to communicate over a network. Most people prefer to use a user-friendly name—for example, sales.fabrikam.com—to locate an e-mail server or Web server on a network rather than an IP address, such as 157.60.0.1. When a user enters a user-friendly DNS name in an application, DNS services resolve the name to its numeric address. What does a DNS server do? A DNS server provides name resolution for TCP/IP-based networks. That is, it makes it possible for users of client computers to use names rather than numeric IP addresses to identify remote hosts. A client computer sends the name of a remote host to a DNS server, which responds with the corresponding IP address. The client computer can then send messages directly to the remote host's IP address. If the DNS server does not have an entry in its database for the remote host, it can respond to the client with the address of a DNS server that...

...should consider disabling updates in the DNS zone properties page. Answer: B Explanation: In the scenario you should enable scavenging through the zone properties because scavenging removes the outdated DNS records from the DNS zone automatically. You should additionally note that patience would be required when enabling scavenging as there are some safety valves built into scavenging which takes long to pop. ...The Operating System – IP #2 Akeem Knight American Intercontinental University Online The installation planning issues relating to a number of servers and controllers are a bit complicated to understand for those that are not familiar with them. I will do my best to incorporate them into a manual in which the user will be able to easily see what happens through each phase of the planning, the issues that may occur, and how to deal with those issues. Domain controllers are defined as servers the reacts to authenticity security requests within a Windows server domain. These controllers deal with logging in and other system feature that may require a password. When planning and installing domain controllers, it always a good idea to install a minimum of two to three of them. By doing so, it reduces the probability of having to restore Active Directory database from the backup drives. If flexibility is necessary have, then the user should refer to putting file sharing programs and services onto the servers. After this is completed, it is recommended that the domain controllers should only be used for authenticity. When this is done, it allows the servers to run much quicker and more efficient, and it makes the computer work less hard to get the jobs you want done (Lewis, 2012). Next on the list is the DNS server. DNS stands for Domain Name System is a technology that manages internet and website domains. This system enables users to insert the name of a website into a computer...

...Simulation, and Engineering Analysis 11 Conclusion 16 Recommendations and Future Work 16 References 17 Executive Summary This report focuses on the activities that Team Rainier has made between January 11 and April 23, 2010. The team was originally updating the palletizing process for J. Lieb Foods. Currently J. Lieb Foods has a rotary operated control system that controls the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) which in-turn operates the palletizer. Team Rainier was updating the control system to a touch screen control for the operators and an upgraded PLC to control the palletizer. Through the process of economic analysis J. Lieb had selected the PanelMate 1000 as their touch screen and the quantum as the PLC. Due to recent developments with J. Lieb the project stalled and now has a different scope and direction. Team Rainier has been in contact with Dr. Allan Felsot of the Viticulture and Enology Program at Washington State University Tri-Cities. Dr. Felsot is the director of the green house at the university campus. Currently he is in need of controllers for the lighting system. The grow lights in the greenhouse are strictly on or off and are currently all controlled by simple on/off switches. With the installation of a PLC the lights will be programmable as to when they turn on and off, eliminating the need for someone to continually be present to physically turn the lights on and off. Dns in Small Networks Step-by-Step Guide

...DNS in Small Networks Step-by-Step Guide Microsoft Corporation Published: January 2008 Author: Jim Groves Editor: Jim Becker Abstract This guide helps you implement Domain Name System (DNS) on the Windows Server® 2008 operating system in a small network. Windows Server 2008 uses DNS to translate computer names to network addresses. An Active Directory® domain controller can act as a DNS server that registers the names and addresses of computers in the domain and then provides the network address of a member computer when the domain controller receives a query with the name of the computer. This guide explains how to set up DNS on a simple network that consists of a single domain.
