...Acct 200 CRN # Group Research Project Sarbanes Oxley David, Eric, Jeff We have decided to analyze and research the managerial accounting theory of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. In this project we will describe how this act became in existence, the implementation of this act into major corporations, the organization problem that the act was developed to address, the specific pros and cons of this act, how companies have adjusted accounting process because of this act, and our position on the act. In analyzing and researching these different topics we will better understand the complexity and the specific foundations of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. As stated above we will first look at how the Sarbanes Oxley Act became in existence. The Sarbanes Oxley Act was passed into legislation in 2002 because of a series of corporate scandals. Some regard the Sarbanes Oxley Act as the most significant modification of securities regulation since the 1930’s. However, in the 1990’s, there were a number of amendments that significantly enlarged the regulatory powers of the Securities Exchange Commission. These acts were significant that led up to the implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. These regulations include the Penny Stock Reform Act of 1990, the Securities Acts Amendments of 1990, the Market Reform Act of 1990, and the National Securities Markets Improvement Act of 1996. All of these acts have helped shape and form the original Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. For years...

How to Succeed

...What is the motivation of your actions? What drives you to work, to study, to date, to do things you might not really want to do? The ultimate answer must be the desire to succeed. You want to succeed in your career, in relationship, in everything; that is what life is about, that is what keeps you moving. There is not any correct list of rules that tells you dos and don’ts if you want to succeed. The key to success differs with each person; you have to find out yourself. However, to my mind, there are several rules, which have been proven by most of the successful people in our world, can be considered absolute right. First of all, it is hard work that will lead you to success. Hard work alone may not make everything possible, but it is no doubt that without hard work, nothing is possible. Unless you believe you are as lucky as Paris Hilton, who was born in money. And even she had to work hard, in a certain way, to create her nowadays reputation! Second, the importance of relationship and teamwork is never to be ignored. A person, who believes he can do everything by himself, will never be able to taste success. It is inevitable that you need others’ help in life. Remember an African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together’’. Success is a very picky and tricky target. If you want to go after him (or her), try to be patient and consistent. Do not give in, do not let go of your faith. However, being narrow-minded and letting your ego...

The paper will also end with an essay three thesis that highlights on what has been learnt from Toughs main claims. According to Tough on college conundrum, it is seen that the majority of the children from poor families do struggle in getting education as compared to those in the rich families. It is clear that “over the past few decades, it has become evident that the United States does not so much have an issue of restricted as well as uneven college admittance. It has a challenge of incomplete and lopsided college achievement (Tough, p. 150).” Concerning this it is clear that the United States does not concentrate on one background when it comes to ones college admission. They say that the most challenging fact presently is the non-fulfilling college accomplishment. Therefore, it can be pointed out that the college conundrum as stated means that the majority of the grades tend to show more than the mystery content. They say that this discloses characters of motivation...

For example: A black pencil skirt and white long sleeve blouse void of any patterns. How to Succeed in Graduate School

...How to Succeed in Graduate School: A Guide for Students and Advisors Submitted to Crossroads, October 1994 Marie desJardins marie@erg.sri.com Abstract This paper attempts to raise some issues that are important for graduate students to be suc¬cessful and to get as much out of the process as possible, and for advisors who wish to help their students be successful. The intent is not to provide prescriptive advice – no formulas for finishing a thesis or twelve-step programs for be¬coming a better advisor are given – but to raise awareness on both sides of the advisor-student relationship as to what the expectations are and should be for this relationship, what a graduate student should expect to accomplish, common problems, and where to go if the advisor is not forthcoming. Introduction This article originated with a discussion I had with several women professors about the prob¬lems women face in graduate school, and how more women could be encouraged to go to grad¬uate school in computer science. Eventually, the conversation turned to the question of what these women could do in their interactions with women students to support and encourage them. I volunteered that over the course of my gradu¬ate career I had collected a variety of papers and e-mail discussions about how to be a good ad-visor, how to get through graduate school, and issues facing women. They were eager to get this material, and I told them I would sort through it when I got a chance. After mentioning...

How Did Reconstruction Succeed

... The American Reconstruction occurred between the years of 1865-1877, when the American government tried to reunite and build the country back up again. As the Civil War ended, the South was in ruin and many of the large plantations were destroyed and no longer had their free labor. The economy and wealth in the South had been destroyed. The government now had to face the great task of rebuilding the South, uniting the North and the South into one cohesive unit and integrating into society the African-Americans, who had been enslaved for so many years. These were not small tasks to accomplish and while there was hope, the reconstruction era failed to achieve these goals. There are two main reasons why these goals were not met. The first was that President Lincoln had shown great leadership during this time and held much promise, but was assassinated before he could complete his job. The second was that although it once looked promising, there were not enough measures put into place to integrate and equalize the former slaves. Although the reconstruction era began to rebuild after the Civil War, it was not able to achieve all of its goals. It took many years after the era to finally unite the States and have complete integration and rights for African-Americans. This goal of reconstruction may have been able to be accomplished if Abraham Lincoln was president. Before he was assassinated, Lincoln accomplished much progress in rebuilding the US after the Civil War. He was passionate...

THE PROBLEM-SOLVING PROCESS Step 1 - Problem Definition Before you are ready to take any steps to solve the problem, you first have to be sure that you are clear about what the problem really is. It can be easy to get distracted by solving a different problem than what is actually causing distress if it is easier than dealing with the real problem. This step involves thinking about the following questions: 1. How is the current situation different from what I actually want it to be? 2....

How to Succeed in Masters Degree Program

...Ideas Learned from Graduate Student Orientation Course Starting a new degree program can be a challenge, especially if one has been out of school for some time. There is an old saying, “Well begun is half done.” (“Proverb Hunter”, 2012) Having a good foundation and ideas at the beginning allows easier and more efficient transition throughout the program. The ideas obtained from the Graduate Student Orientation Course are not something new. However, they can be compared to the missing pieces of a treasure map that has been put away up in the attic. Finding a treasure without them may be possible, but very challenging. By having those missing those missing pieces, the path to the treasure can be clear. I obtained many different ideas from the course, but there are three main ideas, which I believe will be very helpful through my degree program. They are (a) time management, (b) effective writing skills, and (c) use of CSU Online Library. Time Management According to Eerde (2003), managing time gives a person a sense of control of time. When a person has a control, it reduces tension and stress. Minimizing those two factors results in a positive performance and outcome. Being stressed about completing a certain task usually results in procrastination. One will try to find a justification to not complete the task right away, because the task will seem too overwhelming when he/she does not have adequate control of time. When the task can be justified as something...
