1. From an ethical standpoint, how would you evaluate the merits of Mr. Garbo employing Amber? Discuss.
ANSWER:
Although the main reason Mr Garbo employed Amber is building more future business with Amber’s father company, but he made 3 mistakes:
1. He was wrong when giving Amber a boring occupation.
2. He was wrong when paying Amber much than she deserves
3. He was wrong when ignoring her fault
As we know that Amber definitely is not a stupid girl, if she was given a chance, she would promote herself to show what she could do. But because she knew the reason why Mr Garbo employed her was not base on her knowledge background, she became lazy and was not interested in working.
If Mr. Garbo keeps ignoring what Amber is doing and does not make any change, the other employees will not work with enthusiasm and dedication attitude as before and his HR Dept. will be in trouble. This will lead Mr. Garbo’s firm get lost. 2. Now that she is employed, what course you follow to address her on the job behavior?
ANSWER:
The reason which made Amber to be employed is her father’s business relationship, not because of her ability. She should have understood that and catch the chance to work harder, to express herself to her boss, to make he fell that he chose the right one. By that way, she could change her colleagues’ mind, change the prejudice they had at the beginning.
Instead of being against the company’s regulation, she should follow it strictly and respect it. Taking longer break than others, coming late and leaving soon is not the right behaviors, that just prove she was not educated well. This is somehow has a bad impact on her father as Mr. Barbo might reason out Amber’s father is the same, unruly one.
