An ethical decision that I made in my professional life is to go back to school to get a degree in Human Services. I been in the medical field for ten plus years now. I like my job but I want to do something different. I want another job where I am still helping out my fellow man. When I decided to go back to school I had to figure out if I would be able to go to school and work at the same time. I went to a community college at first to study Human Services but I realized the classes were getting hectic for me to sign up for because I had to find a class that would fit my schedule as far as the time and the dates. When things did not work out I had to decide whether or not to continue going to school at the community college or find another school that will work around my work schedule and my family. My family suggested to me that I find a school on line. I did my research and I chose to continue my education at the University of Phoenix. This is my fourth semester taken classes on line and I love it. This makes me happy because I can work, get my degree, and have time for my family members all at the same time. I want to be a Human Service worker for children or the elderly. I can’t wait until I finish because I will be accomplishing something for myself and my

Ethical Decision Reflection

...Checkpoint: Ethical Decision Reflection Phoebe Edwards HSM/230 Carrie Cooper 3/19/13 I have not had to make any decision dealing with ethical decision. But if I did have to make ethical decision the factors I would consider are to make a clear logical choice about the issue. Also I would try to solve the issue by simple utilitarian thinking, this make you look at moral duties and virtues, bring a person to a derived from the principles of right or wrong. Say like if I had people living at my house and one was not doing anything around the house then I would say to them that if they could not help around the house that they would have to leave, but if I have to talk to that person more than once, Then that when I would make my ethical decision making and the action would be put into affect. The problems that we run into are that everybody has their own views and making their decisions is based on their views, which that bring me to the ethical decisions. That make me ask questions and look and at my actions of right and wrong as with the feeling of honesty and fairness and with some compassion. When you have decision making with action that make people action and...

Freedom to Comment

...Freedom to Comment Reflection Miranda Davis HSM/230 April, 27,2014 There are many instances where I can think of being a part of a group and strongly disagreeing with the actions of the group based on ethical grounds. That is part of growing up. We all will face a sort of peer pressure in life t some point. The one instance in my life that really stick out where I was totally against the group happened when I was in college. I worked at clothing store at the local mall. One of the requirements for working there was that you had to wear the clothes that were sold there or clothes similar to them. After working there for a month or so I stumbled upon a few of the girls taking clothes off the shelf and putting them in the back room. I was then told that sometimes the girls there would “borrow the clothes and wear them to work in that day and then put them back on the shelf for customers to buy. I did speak up and tell them I thought it was wrong. They then informed me that even the manager of the store did it. That she would even get merchandise and take it home and keep the tags there and pay for some of the stuff a little bit along. I was in shock. I proceeded by calling the home office and calling the district manager and reporting the issue. A few weeks later the district manager came in the store. I was then fired. All the girls told the district manager that I was causing arguments within the group and I was a trouble maker. I did find out later that...

Ethical Decision Reflection

...Ethical Decision Reflection HSM/230 Keyanna Rogers January 30, 2013 There have been many moments in my life that I can say that I am not proud of, but we learn from own mistakes. Nobody is perfect and we are going to keep making mistakes in life. We learn from our mistakes to make better choices in life. There was a moment in my life that I had to make a decision regarding my friend and my job. I worked at a retail store with a friend of mine; we went to high school together, and hung out from time to time. It was about 3 months into the job and she started to steal money from the register, and some merchandise from the store. This came back to both of us because we was responsible for closing and making sure our register had a certain amount plus the end of the day receipts was not adding up. So, I had to have a meeting with the store manager, and some corporate people of the company; because they were trying to fire me, and have me arrested. My job and work ethics was at stake, and the factor that I had to consider was how I am going to explain this to my landlord for not paying my rent. I had to make a decision to tell what really happened or take the fall for something I didn’t do. So, I told the truth my friend was fired and they didn’t press charges because she admitted to the crimes. This was a hard decision to make, but at the time I just moved on my own with my son, and fiancé. The outcome was...

Social Organizations

...Building an Ethical Organization Part 2 HSM/230 November 17, 2013 Building an Ethical Organization Part 2 Building an Ethical Organization Part 2 HSM/230 University of Phoenix An ethical organization is not only best for the people it serves but also best for the organization. Being able to describe the organization is the way to succeed in helping others understand what it is that the employees are trying to accomplish. A mission statement helps to keep the ideals or the organization in mind, as well as establishing what target population they would help. Creating a values statement, will help the organization to communicate its moral side with potential clients and others. A code of ethics (code) serves as a central guide to support day-to-day decision making at work. It clarifies the cornerstones of your organization-- its mission, values and principles –helping your staff understand how these cornerstones translate into everyday decisions, behaviors and actions. While some may believe codes are designed to limit one’s actions, the best codes are actually structured to liberate and empower people to make more effective decisions with greater confidence. An effective code has many uses, but two critical ones stand out. A code should (1) clarify Gray areas or questions employees have concerning organizational values and expectations and (2) Help build trust and commitment. At best, a code “reflects the covenant that an organization has made to uphold its...

Quiet: Power of Introverts

...MORE ADVANCE NOISE FOR QUIET “An intriguing and potentially lifealtering examination of the human psyche that is sure to benefit both introverts and extroverts alike.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “Gentle is powerful … Solitude is socially productive … These important counterintuitive ideas are among the many reasons to take Quiet to a quiet corner and absorb its brilliant, thought-provoking message.” —ROSABETH MOSS KANTER, professor at Harvard Business School, author of Confidence and SuperCorp “An informative, well-researched book on the power of quietness and the 3/929 virtues of having a rich inner life. It dispels the myth that you have to be extroverted to be happy and successful.” —JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D., author of Emotional Freedom “In this engaging and beautifully written book, Susan Cain makes a powerful case for the wisdom of introspection. She also warns us ably about the downside to our culture’s noisiness, including all that it risks drowning out. Above the din, Susan’s own voice remains a compelling presence—thoughtful, generous, calm, and eloquent. Quiet deserves a very large readership.” —CHRISTOPHER LANE, author of Shyness: How Normal Behavior Became a Sickness 4/929 “Susan Cain’s quest to understand introversion, a beautifully wrought journey from the lab bench to the motivational speaker’s hall, offers convincing evidence for valuing substance over style, steak over sizzle, and qualities that are, in America, often derided. This book is brilliant...
