In The Book Thief Hans Hubermann, Liesel’s foster dad, goes to war and leaves something very important to him behind, his accordian. When Hans left for war Rosa and Liesel were very flustered and upset that he had to go. Since Hans was not there to protect them he left his accordion behind to fill in for him.
