Driving forces of a functional structure 1. Specialisation
Talknig about specialisation the company wants to change the structure to Matrix which I would not recommend. When the whole company is divided into different departments depending on their major the work can be done productively. As said in the case study some mangers are not satisfied with functional structure in the maketing department but however, having a professional manger head in the marketing department can result in better quality work. Hence, the benefits of specialisation become available. 2. Coordination is established
When the company assigns a head in the department, the person knows what exactly need to be carried out in order to achieve goals in the organisation. The head of marketing department will assign roles to each and everyone based on the skills and experience. Since the staff is not familiar with aouthority and responsibilty the head can assign the work which is need to be done by individual. This will prevent from people making mistakes or having doubts what needed to be done in the department. This because the authority and responsibilty can be passed down. 3. Management
The functional department make the communication lines, lines between departments and jobs very clear. Also the line that is chain of command. So the staff understands boundaries between each other. Project managers could not assit with the fucntional staff memebers because lack of centralisation and leadership. Since the business was carrying out the matrix structure, the staff members had sense of beloning in the business and more power, once it was transformed to functional they became demotivated. The top level management should centralise the decision making in order to get the best out of the employees.
The project manager may have to carry out autocractice leadership style if they do not

Hugo Chavez: Saint for the Poor, Enemy of Capitalism

... Jose L. Renique Hugo Chavez: Saint for the poor, Enemy of Capitalism A revolutionist is a supporter of political or social revolution. Whenever someone feels that the society they live in is oppressed whether by a foreign or domestic influence, revolutionists arise to bring about change however they see fit. While some revolutionists are often viewed in infamy to others such as Hitler, the people who benefited during the better years of their rule tend to view these revolutionists as heroes. One of these well known revolutionists is Hugo Chavez, and while he's known to be hated by both foreign and domestic groups, he is considered a hero to many others. Hugo Chavez was born July 28, 1954 in the town of Sabenta. He was of mixed race and lived in poverty for most of his childhood life (Kozloff 18). Despite being poor, both of his parents were highly educated compared to most people in Venezuela, and thus taught him the importance of studying and education. It was during his childhood that Hugo Chavez was introduced to Jose Esteban Ruiz Guevara, and thus Simon Bolivar (indepthinfo). Bolivar was a revolutionist who helped to free much of Latin America from Spanish control and even attempted to create a nationalist government in Latin America before his death (biography). Essentially, all of these events during Hugo Chavez's childhood helped to shape his goals and inspirations as president. While...

Hugo Chavez

...Hugo Chavez, Marx and Engels and the Venezuelan Revolution Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels introduced the idea that history is one of a struggle between classes. Marx and Engels were not talking about the economic lower, middle, and upper classes of today. Instead, what Marx and Engels meant was the struggle between the working and capitalist classes. Another way of looking at it is the ruling class versus the ruled class. Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, had similar ideas about stopping the exploitation of the working class. I believe that Marx and Engels would agree with Chavez’s policies, programs and ideas because of Chavez’s desire to get rid of capitalism, the social reforms Chavez did and because the problems arising in Venezuela opened the door for a revolution. Marx and Engels argued that the struggle between the ruling class and the ruled class is actually the struggle between the Bourgeois and the Proletarians (2003, 126). Marx and Engels say that the expansion of industry itself has advanced the development of the Bourgeoisie, which led to the development of the Proletariat or the ruled class (2003, 127). When Marx and Engels say, “It has agglomerated population, centralized the means of production, and concentrated property in the hands of a few (Marx and Engels 2003, 129).” What this means is that Bourgeois have taken control of everything and this is what Marx and Engels are trying to get rid of. The Bourgeois control all the means of production and property...

...Adverse selection in the labour market 1. Job Interviews a. Problem Adverse selection exists in the labour market when an interview takes places because there is an asymmetry of information between the interviewer (buyer) and the interviewee (seller). Indeed, the interviewer knows his skills better than the interviewer, which can lead an employer to hire an unskilled employee. b. Solution The common solution to deal with this kind of situation is to hire people who studied in top schools. It does not mean they necessarily have the skills required for the job they apply to. But, on average, they will perform better than other candidates. 2. Productivity of employees a. Problem Adverse selection can also be seen in wages. Wages are supposed to reflect employees’ productivity. However, a manager does not necessarily know precisely how productive his employees are. Therefore, in an attempt to be fair and to deal with this problem as fast and simply as possible, he just considers a mean productivity for all his employees. Therefore, highly-productive employees think their wages are lower than they should be and they leave their jobs. Consequently, the productivity mean decreases, and the employees who have a higher productivity than the mean start looking for another job. This process repeats itself and the average production keeps lowering. There is one phenomenon that even worsens this tendency called presenteeism. Presenteeism is the act of staying at work...

Hugo and Life Car

... The name LIFECar was coined by the team at OSCar Automotive Ltd. The name LIFECar summarises key design principles advocated by RiverSimple. LIFECar stands for Lightweight Integrated Fuel `Efficient Car. Hugo Spowers (founder of OSCar Automotive Ltd and Managing Partner at RiverSimple LLP), sought to demonstrate with the LIFECar project that significant gains in fuel efficiency could be achieved with readily available technology. In order for this project to take place, and with the initial and far-sighted support of the Morgan Motor Company, he formed the LIFECar consortium of Cranfield University, Linde, Oxford University and QinetiQ; together they received support from BERR, formerly the DTI, to part fund the project. Key elements of the design (as the name suggest) include the lightweight structure and the integrated whole system design of the vehicle around the characteristics of a fuel cell. LIFECar combines a hydrogen fuel cell with a bank of ultra capacitors such that cruise and acceleration requirements are decoupled and resolved in a highly optimised fashion. By combining these technologies with a lightweight structure, LIFECar achieves a unique combination of performance, cost effectiveness and fuel efficiency. Hugo derived his idea of the hyper car project from Amory Lovings who was at the Rocky Mountain...

Deterioration of Chavez

...Deterioration of Chavez Chavez_Cancer http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/10/us-venezuela-chavez-idUSTRE7994RB20111010 With the Venezuelan elections coming up, Hugo Chavez, the current president of Venezuela, is trying to win the elections again after being 13 years in possession of the power. At the same time, Chavez’s health has been deteriorating as he announced he has cancer. He also took the cancer look by shaving his hair off and going bald. On the other hand, Chavez has recently been leaving Venezuela unexpectedly going to Cuba leaving his people unattended, meanwhile the media has not always been able to report exactly why the president had to leave his people. It is not the media that is at fault, but the president himself who is trying to hide things; the president himself is at fault of turning Venezuela into a fake democracy in order to keep the power himself. First we will be looking at Chavez’s health conditions in the past years. In June of 2011 Chavez left Venezuela and underwent unscheduled surgery in Cuba for pelvic abscess. After being absent for almost a month from his country, on June 30th, 2011, Chavez announced that he was recovering from an operation removing a cancerous tumor. The Vice President then stated that Chavez remained will “full exercise” of power and that there was no need to transfer powers despite of being absent from Venezuela. On July 2nd, 2011, the newspaper “El Periodico de Catalunya” stated that Chavez had “colon cancer that...
