...World Religions Report Stanley Akesson HUM/130 April 7, 2013 Thomas Thiessen I have decided to compare the Christianity faith of United Church of Christ (UCC) along with Islam. Christianity was started with Jesus and ended with the belief and practice which centers on the resurrection of Christ. I will show how the faiths split and divided into three major branches over the centuries. Protestantism, evolved in the 16th century during the Reformation. United Church of Christ (UCC) was part of the in the 1950’s Congregational Churches of the English Reformation with Puritan New England roots in America, and the Christian. Islam was started by The Prophet Muhammad and according to Muslim belief, the angel Gabriel appeared to Muhammad. His life's work is recorded in the Qur'an, the sacred text of Islam. The Holy Quran is a compilation of the verbal revelations given to the Holy Prophet Muhammad over a period of twenty two years Summary of Interview Reverend Joseph Blotz, became a Minister of Faith Formation in August 2010. ...World Religious Report For my World Religious Report I spent time a local Buddhist Center. I chose Buddhism do to my lack of understanding of the religion, and my desire to broaden my understanding of a totally new religion. My journey first began with my visit to the Buddhist Center. The Buddhist Center was founded in 1995 by Master *****, who is said to have dedicated his life to bringing the ancient wisdom of Buddha into modern society. During my visit I was told that the purpose of Center is to enable the development of inner peace through the study and practice of Kadampa Buddhist meditation. Classes are taught by the resident teacher, American Buddhist monk and by senior students at the Center. The Center is named after Buddha of wisdom, whose function as I am told is to increase wisdom or our wisdom, compassion and inner qualities. The Center offers a variety of services: from Meditation classes, teachings and retreats. Their claim is that these classes are accessible, practical, and open to everyone. The Center from what I understand is part of the New Kadampa Tradition - International Kadampa Buddhist Union, an international organization with over 1,000 member Centers and branches around the world, including several in Los Angeles. During my visit I formed my own opinion of the center. During my visit to the Center I was first welcomed in by a member of the center who was leaving, I had just missed their time of worship. I was invited in and at...

Hum 130 Hinduism Paper

... India or in any other country. While American’s see life according to historical events. Hindus see life according to what they will become and history as unimportant. Reincarnation Reincarnation it the teaching “that the soul leaves the dead body and enters a new one. At death one takes birth again and again into countless bodies including animals or any other life form.” Rebirth as a human is rare but “allows the soul to advance towards its ultimate goal” not to be reborn again but to merge with “absolute reality” (Fisher, 2005, pg 75). The process of reincarnation repeats itself a multiple amount of times until the ultimate reincarnation when the soul reaches the goal of complete liberation. According to Jayaram (2009), “In Hinduism a soul reincarnates again and again on earth till it becomes perfect and reunites with it Source. During this process the soul enters into many bodies, assumes many forms and passes through many births and deaths.” The aim in Hinduism is to achieve moksha according to Fisher (2005) “moksha is the realization of the immortal Absolute. Many lifetimes of incarnations are required to reach the transcendence of earthly miseries and the liberation from earthly existence is one of the underpinnings of classical Hinduism” (pg. 75). Achieving moksha means a release from the grinding wheel of rebirths. Since moksha is a release from the many reincarnations, it is the goal of every Hindu. Hindus do not fear death due......

Hum/130 Checkpoint Week 6

...The Five Pillars of Islam There are four basic central beliefs and teachings of Islam; they are peace, purity, acceptance, and commitment. The religion of Islam requires complete acceptance of the teachings and guidance of God. The belief of an Islam is to have total faith in GOD. Islamic people believe that Islam has to honor all prophets and it has to include all religions. Some people believe that Islamic people or Muslims are followers and if they willingly accept the power of God and organize their lives to be in total accord with God’s teachings and works to reflect those teachings. These central beliefs are seen reflected in Islam’s Five Pillars. Belief and witness is one of the first pillars. This reflects the acceptance because they must believe in God and share in the unity of him to others as well as the belief that Muhammad is the messenger of God. They do not worship Muhammad, as I just stated he is the messenger of God. The second Pillar is daily prayers. If I am not mistaken the chapter stated that Muslims must pray five times a day while they are facing Mecca. They also do this when they are performing certain rituals. This would show commitment to their beliefs and to God himself. The third pillar is Zakat; it means spiritual tithing and almsgiving which requires Muslims to donate a portion of their yearly earnings to those who are less fortunate. Honestly, this shows me that they Muslims have tremendous amount of commitment and peace with themselves...

Hum Religion

...Religion elicits a massive effect on society. Although religions was contrived of the ideal of unifying individuals through faith and worship practices, the variety of religious beliefs impels conflict. This transpires because there is no tangible elements or components that can be perceive from our five senses, so there is no evidence to substantiate their beliefs and validate their idealism. However, these organized religious institution attempt to use spiritual practices, rituals, symbols and beliefs in attempts to illustrate a vivid depiction of this greater realm of reality (Axia, 2012).Also hoping this will be influential factors that will increase clout of their religion. Religion is encompassed by numerous political and historical entities that are profound to these religions. The people develop an strong emotional connection between these individuals and their beliefs. Once a person is emotionally involved in an idealism it can result in a positive outcome and promote exceptional social behavior or elicit negative actions.
